A head poked out of the room, looking down the hallway, making sure no one was in sight.

Alone in her room, Zeke's voice haunted her, almost driving her crazy. “I would ruin you” Like it was so hard to do.

She ran a finger over her hair before stepping out cautiously. She wasn't ready to face Tessa now.

She took a step forward, letting out a deep sigh. The day was going better than she had imagined.

“Ivy!” The name sliced across the hallway. She froze, body tensing, eyes shot wide. She had concluded a tad too early.

“Ivy!” This time it came out breathless between pants.

She turned on her heels taking in Tessa bent on one knee, hair hiding her face. “What's wrong? You're breathless this early?” Ivy took a step forward.

“I was hurrying over to catch you before you leave again” A mischievous grin appeared on Tessa's face.

“Again?” Ivy's face contorted into a frown. Eyes narrowing into slits.

But Tessa didn't give her the time to think about it as she pulled her back into her room.

“Yes again,” She confirmed. “If not tell me where you're sneaking off to this early?” She questioned, a hand resting on her hip.

“I… You look like an old gossip right now,” Ivy chuckled.

“Right, you're trying to change the topic” Tessa counter-replied.

Ivy face-palmed, an exasperated sigh escaping her lips. “What do you want?” She finally asked and Tessa's face lit up into a bright smile.

“So how did it go? Was he good? You know in bed?” The questions came rushing, bringing with it a rush of blood up Ivy's face, heat climbed into her face, her eyes darting across the room.

“What… What do you mean? “She breathed out. “ Nothing of that sort happened,” she added.

“Oh, quite convincing,” Tessa smiled. “You're not always this nervous. Are you sure nothing happened?”

“Yes, and nothing like that would happen” She replied. A sting shot across the chest when she said that. Her wolf groaned inside her and she flinched.

“What's wrong?” Tessa asked.

“My wolf. She moved!” Ivy exclaimed, her eyes shining with excitement.

“Finally, That's great news” Tessa jolted up with trembling lips.

“I'm off to see grandma” Ivy stood up, reaching for the door.

“Zeke?”

“He can wait” She pushed through, moving past the hallway.

She had taken less than five steps when a guard walked up to her.

“The Alpha requests your presence,” The guard said, head bowed.

“Stoneheart?” Her brows furrowed before she nodded, walking behind the guard. She knew better than to refuse.

Her hands pushed the door open, a little too eagerly, lips pursed into a smirk.

“Stoneheart,” She called immediately they were alone, the name bouncing through the walls.

Zeke raised his head from the files, eyes looking her over, making her feel exposed and vulnerable. “You're here” He finally spoke up, easing the tension that was beginning to build.

“Yeah, I am. A surprise?” She slumped into the couch.

“You've been reassigned…”

“Thank Goddess” She let out a satisfied sigh.

“To the kitchen,” he added.

“What?” Her voice came as a whisper.

“You heard me. Leave now” He commanded.

“Stoneheart?” Her voice softened.

“I said leave.” His voice came out rough and cold. Too cold.

She nodded, her feet dragging across the padded floor. Her newly found wolf whined inside her.

“Get the fire workers on standby,” She threw to the man seated beside the table, slamming the door beside her. She could swore she heard a faint chuckle vibrate through the door but she couldn't care less.

Her legs carried her across his chambers to the kitchen.

Heat attacked her first as she set her feet into the kitchen, the sharp smell of hot oil invaded her nostrils and she took a step back.

The noisy chatter came later, hitting her like a strong wave, the kitchen staff gossiped away, unaware of her presence. Her arms curled around her, her wolf whimpering inwardly.

“Be calm,” She whispered.

“Luna!” A sharp voice cut through her oceans of thought.

“Humph!” A snicker echoed across the huge kitchen. “A rejected mate doesn't make her a Luna”

Something stirred in her but her tongue moved faster than her head. “I was worthy of being a Luna by the moon goddess. The difference is that you aren't” She snickered, turning to the owner of the voice.

A blush climbed into her face and she stepped back as Ivy took menacing steps at her.

“And till the official rejection ceremony is carried out, I'm still a Luna” She growled.

“Not a Luna, just a rejected…”

It happened too fast, her hands clawed at the voice owner's face, leaving a trail of red blood.

“You would address me as Luna,” Her voice was low yet commanding, almost raw. Sounding like… wait, her wolf. She quickly came to the realization and stepped back. Eyes wide in horror as she looked down at her hand that had just clawed the face.

“I'm sorry” She forced it out of her mouth with a trembling voice. The girl retreated, hands clutching her cheek with petrified eyes.

“I'm sorry,” She choked out, her eyes never leaving the girl. She took a step forward but it only made the girl retreat a little further.

“I said I'm sorry!” Her voice vibrated through the room. Wide eyes laced in fear stared back at her.

“Shit!” She slammed a finger over her mouth, turning on her heels to get away from the kitchen.

The familiar figure stood at the doorway accessing her with unreadable eyes.

She stopped for only a moment before continuing her exit.

“Grandma,” She whispered as she ran, feet thudding against wet soil.

Ivy woke up from her sleep gasping from breath, the dream she had felt too real to just be a dream. It was like the flames itself was licking her up. She felt burnt and exhausted and her bones felt like they were about to fall off. The pain was so excruciating and she was sure it was not up to half of Zeke's daily pain. Pain he had carried with him since he was old enough to understand what pain was. The events of last night came upon her and she sighed. She lost her parents also but she had a grandmother who took her through, who showed her the way but Zeke, he had known. Just a desperate uncle who assumed his father's position and didn't care to deeply investigate their death. A selfish uncle who had only used him as an instrument and a tool for his own selfish use. And if from what she was thinking and the evidence available, her parents were involved in Zeke's parents death, she didn't know how he felt when he realized she was his mate. Something clicked immediately, she needed

“Ivy,” Zeke's voice was shaky as he approached her. “Explain this.” She stood up and shoved the letter into his chest. “Why don't you explain this, Zeke? Is this the reason why…” Her voice cracked and she trailed off. “What are you doing here?” Zeke ran his fingers through his hair. “That's not what you're supposed to be saying. That's definitely not it.” She countered. “Just… leave.” He pointed his fingers at the door. “Are you for real? I saw my name there, I saw reasons, I know what you're facing, Zeke. We could work together and…” “You have no idea what I'm facing, Ivy. No idea.” Zeke grunted and fell on the couch. “Then make me.” She muttered. “Make me understand. Or are you just scared?” She pushed.“Scared?” Zeke scoffed. “Being scared would be better than this. I'm saving your life everyday, Ivy. You have no idea how vulnerable you would be once we're mated, you have no idea how many people are waiting for us to mate so they can come out you. You have no idea.” He snapp

As ivy left, it brought a change of tension and vibe in the dining room, everyone adjusted. Even Enid shifted a bit from Zeke. Darius's eyes were cold, lips pressed into a thin line as he tried to engage Zeke in small talks. But the small smile on Zeke's face couldn't be overlooked. He was beaming with pride and joy for reasons even he couldn't pinpoint. Enid's representatives adjusted awkwardly when realization dawned on them that they had been so carried away by the charisma of the girl their princess was supposed to replace. After dinner, Darius stormed off with Enid and her delegates following after him. Zeke watched for a moment before instructing the kitchen staff to do their work and he walked out. But he didn't return to his chambers just yet. He couldn't. So instead, he stood outside the hall, turning over Ivy's words in his head. The command in her voice when she addressed him, it was like daring him to say a word, daring him to reject her in public again. His eyes caugh

The pack is gathered at the main hall for a formal pack dinner, warmly welcoming Enid to our pack as Darius called it. Ivy and Tessa arrived the hall a little late when everyone was already seated. Tessa's plan to draw attention, one that Ivy despised but could do nothing about. When they arrived, they discovered Darius had arranged the seating arrangements. Enid was seated directly beside Zeke, with Darius sitting opposite her. Tessa opened her mouth to say something but ivy hushed her. Tessa's seat was beside Lucas who was seated beside Enid. She walked past her seat to ivy's assigned seat. Close to where junior pack members were seated. “Tessa,” ivy whispered. “I'm seating with you.” She stated. She negotiated with a girl that had an obvious crush on Lucas and took the girl's seat, close to Ivy. “Tessa,” Darius called in his sweet, charming voice. “You're aware that you're disrupting the seating arrangements I put in place?” He asked. “I thought mates were supposed to be toget

It was on a hot Tuesday afternoon when Enid and her delegates arrived. Ivy had known they would be arriving today, the whole pack settings had changed with Darius at the forefront. He spearheaded the new change in the pack, giving a beautiful and girly finish to most of the things in the pack. Ivy winced uncomfortably as she walked past and her mind went to Zeke. How would he feel with these new changes? But she remembered it was his bride coming home so he wouldn't care, her eyes twitched at that. A new lady - more like a bride, arriving the pack when she had been named Zeke's Mate was an insult to her name and she could feel some parts of the pack's inhabitants treating her differently. She forced herself not to care. Zeke had been postponing their night training for two days now and Lucas avoided her, even if he avoided Zeke more. The whole pack was standing at the entrance of the pack house waiting for Enid, under the flaming sun. Ivy's eyes were half closed because of the int

Zeke wakes with a new resolve in his heart. Avoiding Ivy Hale. Continued contact with her had caused more damage than good and only complete avoidance could solve his problem. He wasn't ready yet for her to know about his sickness, he wasn't exactly sure what she would do with the information. Lucas arrived early that morning, the files in his hands. “How have you been holding up?” He asked, falling into the couch. Zeke stayed silent, skimming through the documents. Lucas raised his eyebrows in confusion, before his eyes twinkled and he leaned in. “And how's your training with Ivy?” he asked. That did it, Zeke's eyes whipped towards him immediately, wide and predatory, taking Lucas unaware. “What did you see?” Zeke shot at him. “What do you mean?” Lucas was grinning now, he could feel it in his bones that something had happened and he was about to get to the root of it. “What do you mean by that question?” Zeke asked again. “I don't know, what do you think I mean?” Lucas chuckled
