Opposites Attract

Catherine was busy with the cutting of the veggies for the salad  while Maggie was busy with the barbeques. their husbands was busy assembling their tents and the table before they got settled for their monthly get together. Today they agreed to have picnic on cool mountain view behind them. and the calming breeze from the sea Infront.They were startled by Jason's cry for help. He was Catherine four year old son.

"Mommy, Daddy  they did it again! " They rush to where the commotion is coming from, and saw Kaitlyn and Douglas tugging a beach ball from each other.

"It's mine !"  Douglas said . "No it's mine you jerk! my Dad and I went to buy it the other day! " their voices raise and gain look from the other people on the beach.

" Kathy Douglas, stop it !" they both look at their parents angry stare . Douglas with fear in his eyes looking at their parents disapproval gazes, release the ball sending Kaitlyn sprawling in the sand with her bottom hit a pebble, because of the pain she get even by throwing the ball, on the face of Douglas.  Getting a red face, he retaliated by wrestling her in the sand. They rolled and beat each other while their parents  took a time to break them apart.

"What seem to be the problem with you two? you hardly come close without breaking into a fight!"Douglas father said.

"It's him  uncle he took my ball and doesn't want to return it." Kaitlyn said breathing heavily.

"No dad! I've been holding that since we arrived and she suddenly grabbed the ball and accused me of stealing it!"Douglas explained breathing even more heavily.

" Kaitlyn your ball is in the trunk .Now apologize to Doug." her father said.Hrr gather is aware how tenacious his first born is put some warning on his voice.

"No!  he intentionally released the ball so that I will fall." she stammered angrily, unwilling to apologize.

"No sweety, we saw what happen , you're wrong." her mother said.  She considered for a while before apologizing.

"Okay...Sorry!"  grudgingly  she said.still unwilling yo apologize but doesn't have any option.

"Apology not accepted!". Douglas said angrily.if looks could kill she would be lying on the sand unconscious.

"Douglas! that's no way to treat a girl." his mother said.

" She's not a girl mom, she's a trouble maker. I hate her!" he said teary eyed.

"And the feeling is mutual cry baby."Kaitlyn said,she still taunt him 

Both of them got punished and ask to stay away from each other.

Kaitlyn and Douglas was born a year apart, with Douglas. being  eight years old and  Kaitlyn seven, but Kaitlyn was boyish being the eldest of  Jason. who happens to be a handful sometimes she learns to be tough. while Douglas was the youngest of two children turn to be softy because of his doting adorable elder sister.

But because their parents are best friends. they cannot avoid meeting each other on family gathering.Their family always meet on certain occasions and their monthly get together. 

 Their bickering and fights continued until they grew up while their ages increase their  differences level up.

Once they enrolled in the same class of self-defense and was assigned to spar with each other, they end up beating each other like mortal enemies to the surprise of their instructor, just one spark and they light up Like conflagration. So their friends nickname them Kath and Doug.

When they were teenagers their school have a play for teacher's day the parents were invited. They were casted on the lead role when their scene was played, one mistake of another they end up fighting without following the script causing chaos on the play. They end up suspended for three days.

They parents resolved to keep them apart, there seems to be no cure for their differences  maybe  fate has it that they were born to be mortal enemies. 

When Kaitlyn's father was assigned to work in  another city and they have to move with him did the two families were left in peace. while their parents was kept in touch with one another, the two was totally cut off with their association.

six years later.

"Kaitlyn aren't you coming with us to visit the Torres."  her father inquired. 

"No dad I have to report to work for orientation on my next assignment. Give my regards to auntie and uncle 

"What's this assignment?  I hope you won't be putting your life on the line. I really wish that you quit investigative reporting and settle on normal reporting like entertainment. " her mother said worriedly.

"Mom  you know that's were I'm good at, and besides it is my passion. I won't be happy doing those entertainment news where I have to lick asses to some celebrities just to get some scoop".she defended.

" Just be very careful sweety." her father said.

Later in the office where Kaitlyn is employed their boss give them instructions.

"This assignment is very dangerous , I have personally chosen you three to work together. I base my decision on  your past achievement. But if you have second thoughts  feel free to voice it out, and if you feel you can't do it, your free to quit."  their boss explain.

"As for me boss, it sure is dangerous but I can't help but being  challenged. So count me in." Kaitlyn replied, and seconded by the other two.Her two colleagues were in this line if work  long before her,

Her dedication and unbiased exposé, earned her the respect of her co-workers. She is also fierce, fiery and fearless in gathering her data, which leaves her parents worrying for her safety.

Little did they know that she is actually an undercover working for a government agency  that helps bust corrupt officials. and her pen name is just a cover to protect her real identity, even her parents had no knowledge of this. lest they will worry and nag her to quit.

on the other hand she is very careful of her real identity.

Douglas on the other hand is also on the law enforcement dealing with dangerous drugs. Assigned in another city, and he is on the assignment of busting a government official by getting close to his mistress. Being good looking himself it was easy for him to attract his subjects.

"You look very refreshing and I can understand why the mayor is so crazy about you honey."  he said to the woman who just walk to his table. 

"Don't look now but I am being followed Gus, got suspicious already. " she place a USB   conspicuously at the table an suddenly pick a fight  to him. He played along while secretly place the USB at a notch under the table.  and angry words are being exchanged. She slapped him, then suddenly three muscular men seized him and dragged him out of the restaurant.

They beat him up but his back-up appeared and the three man fled to unknown direction.

"Huh that was close" he said.

"Are you OK?" His bavk-up asked him. He nodded and added.

"Quick retrieve the USB under table six  at Three o'clock." his look-out  inside the restaurant already took the item, while the suppose to be rescuer brought him to the police station. 

"Are we clean?"  he ask his men. "Yes, sir!" 

"Good job! about time we examine the contents of this thing I hope she is alright, before we can apply for her to be in the witness protection."

"Tell me Sophia! are you making a fool out of me!"  The mayor shook her to get a reply from her the woman who secretly relaying information to Douglas.

"No baby  your the only one, I could never cheat on you!  please stop your hurting me!" She was down on her knees, sobbing asking and begging  the way she knew that would soften him. She was already  bruised by his manhandling her. She paid no mind to the aches and pains thinking that after this, she will be free from this sinful life. Doug promised her a new and simple life away from here.

Seeing her down on her knees begging, he pulled her up and embraced her as his life depended on it.

" I'm sorry sweetheart. its just I don't want another man get closer to you. I get so madly jealous,  specially now  you know the authorities and my rivals are  closing on me .they might use you to get through me."

"Believe me baby I didn't know that man." She strongly denied.

"It's Ok, don't ever let me down.  I'm so sorry." and he kissed her tears and lead her to the bedroom.

In a villa on the outskirt of the city, surrounded by arm men with high caliber weapons a group of men is having a conference  discussing their deadly  illegal business.

"The mayor is getting hot with authorities." one of the man sitting on the table said. Everyone on the table look at him then to the man sitting in the head of the table, waiting for his reaction.

"It seems like he's becoming more of a liability than an asset, You know what to do. I want it done as soon as possible."
