Chapter One.

Lillian

“I killed him, Faith.”

Those were the first words she said as soon as she opened her eyes. Tears had formed in her eyes; as his image appeared in her mind.

It had been a year since that gruesome night and she still had nightmares about it.

It was midnight when she woke up, covered in sweat and gasping for breath. She had seen him again. Covered in blood.

She sat up on her bed and clutched her heart. She wished for the millionth time that she had died that night instead of him.

This was normal for her now, she was used to waking up in the middle of the night, she often saw him like this in her dreams, but she couldn’t get used to this. She couldn’t get used to the fact that he wasn’t around anymore.

She knew she needed help, but she wanted to live in this pain. She deserved this. She deserved every pain in this world. She didn’t deserve to live.

There was a knock on her bedroom door and she looked up to see who it was.

“Are you okay?” Her sister entered her room and asked, she never locked her door.

She shook her head as tears started spilling on her cheeks.

“Oh, Lillian.” Her sister sat down on the bed and wrapped her arms around her.

“Everything will be okay. Everything’s going to be just fine.” She was whispering as Lillian kept nodding.

Everything was going to be fine.

But the question was, when?

*

She shut her locker door and looked around.

“Looking for me?” Her best friend, Faith appeared in front of her and demanded.

“Who would I look for except you?” Lillian asked.

“That’s the whole point, bitch.” Faith flung an arm around her neck and they started walking towards their next class which was Biology.

“You didn’t come to school for three days and missed all the fun.” Faith informed her, Lillian frowned and looked at her.

“What fun?” She demanded.

“You’ll see.”

She shrugged. She wasn’t interested in anything anyways.

“And Mr. Winters is going to announce the final project and the partners for the project today.” She shrugged again.

She didn’t care about partners, she just had to study, graduate High school and leave for college.

That’s it.

They reached their class and took their seats. Ready to start the day.

Lillian Ann Wilson, an eighteen-year-old girl who was a senior in High school. That was pretty much it. That was what described her now.

She, who once was a lively girl who loved art, music, and books. Who, had plenty of friends Who once lived life to the fullest, now was nothing but someone who was being forced to live.

She had changed completely after that night.

The night when she lost her boyfriend.

The night of the accident.

Nobody knew the details of the accident as she never told anyone, but she was with him at that time.

They were together when the truck hit them.

She was there with him when he took his last breath as she tried to keep him awake.

She was there when he died in her arms.

That was the last thing she remembered because the shock was too much to take in, hence causing her to lose consciousness.

The guilt of not being able to save him ate her up. The guilt of surviving didn’t let her come back to normal.

And now she was just breathing. Breathing for the sake of her family, for the sake of her friends, for the sake of people who loved her.

After the class, she stood up to go out trying to ignore all the girls who were standing outside the classroom door.

“Are they all here for Jaden?” She finally asked Faith, who was standing beside her looking for a way to get out of the classroom. Jaden was one of the most popular guys in their school.

She shook her head.

“A new guy just came yesterday. And believe me, Lillian he’s such eye candy. Girls are going crazy over him.”

Lillian nodded but didn’t try to take a look at the guy who was trying to get out of the classroom, but those girls just won’t let him.

“The funny part is, he doesn’t even give a damn about these girls. It’s a war zone now. Everyone is trying to get him to talk to them but he’s just... in my opinion, he’s cool. Such a bad boy vibe, but in a good sense you get what I mean?” Faith wanted to know.

Lillian nodded again. She had no idea what the hell Faith was on about.

A few minutes later their way cleared up and they made their way outside.

She reached her locker and opened it, she had to get her books for English now. And she had to get ready to meet her project partner, with whom she’ll be working for the next three weeks.

She hoped her partner would be someone she knew or was on friendly terms with, so she could be comfortable with them. But you never know what’s life going to give until the exact moment.

She took out her books and shut the locker door.

The hallway was nearly empty now as she was quite late for class, due to all those girls who were blocking the classroom door earlier. She took a deep breath and turned just to collide with an incoming individual who was running as if his life depended on it.

It felt like her head just collided with a rock causing her to shut her eyes and stifle an agonizing scream.

“Oh my god. I’m so sorry. I didn’t know you were standing here.” She heard someone say. She opened her eyes and massaged her burning forehead.

“Are you okay?” She looked up at the person standing in front of her. His eyes were barely visible due to those dark brown locks which were covering his eyes. But she simply nodded, even though she was sure he couldn’t see her.

“Try to keep your hair out of your eyes.” She suggested. He didn’t say anything. She rolled her eyes, turned, and walked away.

“Idiot.” She muttered as she made her way towards class.
