The next morning Harper woke up before Oliver. Her eyes blinked open and for a moment she forgot where she was. She rolled around to see Oliver asleep next to her, his arm slumped over her waist possessively. He looked so peaceful and content. Harper studies his face, the way his rough shortly trimmed beard framed his cheekbones and how long his eye lashes were. She slowly and quietly got out of bed without disturbing him and went into the bathroom. Inside she found a sleek, modern bathroom. The walls and floor were covered in large, matte grey tiles. The overall color scheme of the space ranged from light grey to charcoal, giving the space a calm and sophisticated feel. On the left side, there is a floating vanity made of dark laminate with a matte finish. Below the vanity, there is an open shelf holding neatly rolled beige towels. A rectangular white vessel sink sits on top of the vanity, paired with a sleek, modern chrome faucet that extends horizontally over the basin. Above the sink is a large mirror cabin with a subtle built-in light strip underneath, casting a soft glo onto the sink area.

Behind the vanity, further into the room is a glass-enclosed shower with a frameless design. The shower area has darker grey tiles and a black rainfall-style showerhead mounted from the wall. Besides the shower is a freestanding oval bathtub that sits against the tiled wall. The tub is white with smooth, curved edges, contrasting softly with the angular lines of the room. Above the bathtub there is a recessed wall niche built into the tiles, holding a few neatly arranged bath products and decorative items. In the foreground on the right side, there is a modern, compact toilet with a round, smooth design. Beside it stands a black freestanding toilet paper holder with a simple geometric frame. A window on the far-right wall allows natural light to enter. The window has white blinds that are partially closed, diffusing the daylight. A planter box beneath the window holds soft, feathery green plants, adding warmth and life to the otherwise natural and structured space.

Harper looks around the room, astonished by how beautifully it was decorated and how neat it was. She quietly went to use the toilet and then washed her hands after. She looked in the mirror at her messy auburn hair, keenly aware of how naked she was. Not wanting to go to the living room and put on her clothes that she wore yesterday, she quietly went over to Olivers’ dark-painted build in wardrobe. The wardrobe has a classic panel design with recessed rectangular panels on each door, painted in a deep charcoal tone. She reached for the small round brass knob on the middle door and slowly opened it. Inside, the wardrobe was softly lit with warm built-in lighting along the top and sides. The interior wood was lighter. Two handing rails were visible, one on top and one below. The top rail held neatly arranged dress shirts and jackets in neutral tones– whites, blues, greys, and darker shades– organized evenly on matching hangers. The lower rail held more garments, including trousers and jackets, arranged with similar neatness and coordination. Harper sighed contently at the level of organization then she traced her fingers lightly over the garments hanging in the wardrobe. The clothes smelled like Oliver.

Harper reached out and touched the soft cotton material of a black buttoned up shirt. She took it out of the wardrobe along with the hanger it was on and removed it from the hanger. The put on the shirt, finding that it was way too big for her and covered her upper body well. She looked over at Oliver still asleep on his bed, and then she felt the vibration of her stomach growling. Quietly she snuck out of the bedroom and into the living room. Her gaze dropped to where their clothes from yesterday lie on the floor, and she feels her heart skip a beat at the memory. She lightly shook her head and went into the kitchen. The first appliance to draw her attention was the coffee maker. So, she turned it on and started brewing a pot of coffee. Then she went over to the silver fridge and opened the door. Inside the fridge was relatively empty, beside a tub of margarine and a single tomato. Her stomach growled in disappointment, and she started looking through the cupboards, finding little to eat.

Just when she was about to give up hope, she found a cupboard with cereal inside. Most of the boxes were empty except for a box of oatmeal. Harper took out the box and followed the instruction on the back, taking out a pot and boiling water then adding the oatmeal with a pinch of salt. As she waited for the oatmeal to cook, she went over to the clothes on the floor and neatly picked them up and folded them, placing them on the couch in neat piles. After stirring the oatmeal and pouring herself a cup of coffee, which she had to drink black, she went to study the bookcase again. Her eyes roamed over the book titles. While she waited for the oatmeal to cook, stirring it occasionally, she took out her phone and sent a text to her roommate, Glen.

Harper: “Morning. This is going to sound crazy, but can you bring me some clothes please. I will send you, my location.”

Glen: “Girllll, where have you been? Where are you? Why do you need clothes?”

Harper: “I told you I will send you a location. I kind off had a sleep over… just bring some clothes, I will owe you”

Harper blushes as she types the message. She has never been in this position before, where she had to ask Glen to bring her clothes or admit she was at someone’s place.

Glen: “Oooh, someone got lucky… atta girl. You gotta give me all the dets later. What am I bringing, professional, sexy…”

Harper: “One suit and something cozy. Mabe some sexy lingerie.”

Glen: “Oooh, girlll. You got it.”

“I am yours,” she said softly. “I promise. No more gifts from anyone. I am sure you will make it worth my while.” Oliver’s entire body visibly relaxed at her complete surrender, the possessive tension melting into pure adoration. A slow, predatory smile spread across his face as he processed the weight of her promise. “Good girl,” he praised thickly, his voice dripping with satisfaction. “You have no idea how long I have wanted to hear you say that.” His hands moved from her back to slide up alone her ribcage until they cupped both breasts firmly through the red laced bra. Thumbs circled her nipples slowly while his lips returned to assault hers hungrily. “You will never regret choosing me,” he vowed against her mouth between kisses. “I will buy you everything you want– jewelry, designer clothes, whatever makes you feel like the queen you are.” The possessive promises flowed freely now that boundarie

“It is adorable how impatient you get,” Harper said with a bright smile. “Most me don’t put in the work like that.” Oliver’s expression softened completely at her compliment, a rare blush colouring his cheeks. “Impatience is my biggest flaw when it comes to you,” he admitted gruffly, lowering himself fully onto the mattress beside her. His large hands framed either side of her head as he propped himself up on his elbows, studying her face with an intensity that bordered on reverence. “Most men don’t know what they are missing,” he continued quietly. “They want easy conquests or women who play games. You are different.” His thumb brushed along her jawline tenderly. “You make me work for it and I fucking love every second of earning your attention.” The confession hung in the air between them, vulnerability exposed beneath layers of CEO confidence and possessiveness.“Good,” Ha

“Says my boss,” Harper says seriously and drains the water in the sink. “I have to catch up your new secretary on your schedule and then settle in at my new desk.” She wiped her hands dry with the dish cloth hanging on the hook. Then she easily puts away the clean dried dished before going to sit down beside Oliver at the dining table. He watched her sit down beside him, his expression shifting from playful to thoughtful as he considered her practical proposal. “How about you leave early tomorrow morning, it is no big deal if the boss is late. And tomorrow afternoon I will bring some clothes over to your place,” she says practically. Taking a bite of his pizza slice, Oliver chewed slowly while processing her plan. “Alright, alright,” he conceded with a reluctant nod. “Early departure it is. But only because you are being sensible and I can’t argue with your logic.” He pointed his pizza slice at her accusingly. “Don’t think this makes you less tempting though. Knowing I have to leave

“Subtle, huh?” Oliver murmured against her mouth. “I like that. Means I will have to work harder to keep up with my girlfriend’s sneaky possessiveness.” His tongue traced the seam of her lips before sliding inside to taste her more thoroughly. The wall at her back became an anchor as he pressed her against it, letting her feel exactly how much he had been anticipating this moment all day. When he finally pulled back for air, Oliver rested his forehead against hers while his breathing remained ragged. “The pizza will arrive soon,” Harper protested weakly. “And it is my turn to do the dishes.” Oliver groaned dramatically at the reminder of real-word responsibilities, setting her back down on her feet reluctantly. “Pizza can wait. Dished can definitely wait.” He checked his watch quickly before shaking his head dismissively. “Driver knows out address. He will leave it at the door if we don’t answer.” His hands framed her face again, thumbs brushing along her cheekbones as he studied ev

“Which floor are we climbing to? Better hope it’s not the fifth floor or I might have to carry you up there.” His tone was teasing but his grip on her waist indicated he wouldn’t hesitate to follow through on the threat if needed. “The third floor,” Harper said with a soft smile. “And there is no need to carry me. I am very fit considering I have been going up and down these stairs for six months now.” Oliver’s eyebrows shot up in impressed surprise. “Third floor and you have been doing this for six months? Damn, I am starting to think my gym membership is useless compared to your natural stamina.” His hand squeezed her hip approvingly as they started up the first flight of stairs. the sound of their footsteps echoed in the stairwell, creating a sense of privacy despite being in a public building. “Good to know you are not one of those girls who expects me to sweep her off her feet literally,” he added with a dry chuckle. “Though I wouldn’t complain about having an excuse to hold yo

  • Paperwork and Hearthbeats   Chapter 55: Past Indiscretion

“It was my first week, he asked me out for a drink and… and we had a one-night stand,” Harper said bluntly and then she held her breath waiting for Oliver’s reaction. His entire body went rigid, the protective hand on her thigh tensed instinctively. For a long moment, he said nothing, simple staring at her with an unreadable expression as the city lights streamed past outside the car window. The silence stretched between them, heavy with unspoken emotion. Finally, he let out a short humourless laugh that held no warmth whatsoever. “So, while I was busy think you were this innocent little thing straight out of college, you were sleeping with one of my junior executives.” His voice was dangerously calm, each word carefully measured. The driver up front seemed oblivious to the storm brewing in the backseat. “And how many times since then?” he asked quietly, turning his head to look out at the passing traffic. “Has he been bothering you? Making passes at work? Because if he has–“ He sto
