SORAYA’S POV
Once Ragnar was out of sight, Khai pushed me away like I was some piece of shit he couldn’t wait to get off him. He turned to the man with the scarred face and said, “Ronan, round up. I’m getting sick of this place.” The man nodded before meeting the auctioneer and exchanging a few words with him. Once he was done, he grabbed my arm and yanked me toward the exit harshly. “Ow!” I hissed, doing my best to ease his grip on my arm, to no avail. Khai adjusted his shirt casually before walking out of the hall with his men. He walked ahead of us until he was completely out of sight. When we finally stepped under the moonlight, the last thing I saw was Khai getting into a car before zooming down the street with a convoy. The scar-faced man—who I remembered Khai referring to as Ronan—led me to a different car. Inside were two girls already seated at the back, with two men at the front. “Get in,” Ronan said gruffly, shoving me into the car without even a hint of gentleness. Once inside, he shut the door and crouched down to come face to face with the men seated at the front. “You have just one job. Fuck up, and your heads will be delivered to your mothers by morning.” My eyes widened as the two men nodded without flinching. The man in the driver’s seat fired up the engine while the other turned to us—with a gun. The two girls screeched as they held onto each other tightly. I sat paralyzed on the spot, my hand subconsciously going up to cover my belly. “If any of you try anything stupid, I’ll blow your fucking brains out,” the man said gruffly, alternating the barrel of his gun between the three of us. The rest of the journey continued in pretty much the same fashion—the three of us quivering in fear at the back of the car, a gun aimed at us. It felt like the car ride lasted forever, until it finally came to a stop. The driver stepped out, along with the man with the gun. They opened both sides of the car and roughly pulled us out. A groan left my lips, and just when I was about to address their barbaric behavior, my words died in my throat. The mansion situated before me looked like something straight out of a dream—an 18th-century fantasy set in Greece. The architecture appeared as though it had been modified by gods. The pillars situated at both sides of the grand entrance were at least ten times taller than the average human. The doors were tall, heavily guarded, and made of gold. The windows started from the shrubs outlining the foundation of the structure and stretched all the way to the roof. It was surrounded by vast acres of land, trees, and shrubs trimmed to perfection. There was no doubt—Alpha Khai’s mansion was by far larger than my ex-husband’s. And that was saying a lot. We were led to the entrance, where three other girls—dressed in little to no clothing—stood. They looked just as confused and unsure of their surroundings as the rest of us. It was at that moment that it clicked. I was not the only woman Alpha Khai had bought tonight. What on earth was he going to do with six women? “This place is so beautiful.” “Are we going to be living here?” “Gosh, we’re going to be living like royalty.” I suppose I did not share the others’ excitement. As much as this place screamed beauty and luxury, the terms of living here were still unknown. And even if there were no terms, I knew I could never be safe here. If Ragnar knows who Khai is, then he knows where he lives. Which means he knows where I am. Which makes this place unsafe for me. I have no intention of staying here for too long. Everything in this mansion screams money. Surely, I can obtain a few valuables. Once I’m out of here, I’ll sell them and get enough money to get as far away as possible from Khai and Ragnar. I will never have to submit to another man ever again. I will be free. I just need to learn the ins and outs of this place. A man dressed in an all-black suit walks up to us. He has his hands clasped behind his back and his black and grey hair gelled back. There’s a not-so-full moustache sitting at the top of his lips—it covered most of them when he smiled. He stopped right in front of us and said, “Welcome, ladies. My name is Rodrick Martell. I would like to congratulate you on being personally handpicked by the great Alpha King Khai, the rogue king of the East. It is tradition for the Alpha King to purchase six slaves for the consummation feast, which is hosted every year by His Majesty. Each of you possesses a finesse, a beauty, and a presence that drew the King to you. Before the feast, you will be added to the Alpha’s harem. You will be summoned every night to please His Majesty until the night of the feast, where you will be given to the Alphas in attendance.” What the actual fuck? I’m to be used as a pleasure toy until I’m sold again? Just what kind of tradition is that? Suddenly, my urge to escape from this place is heightened. The thought of being manhandled by different men—all while with a child in my womb—sends a distasteful shiver down my spine. I expected the rest of the girls to share these feelings, but clearly, they don’t. “Oh my God, you mean we’ll be meeting with the Alpha King nightly?” “And we get to satisfy his sexual desires,” another girl said, practically foaming at the mouth. “Maybe he’ll notice me and take me as his Luna.” More murmurs and whispers erupted, but Rodrick raised his hand to silence us. “I am happy to see the excitement, because the Alpha has demanded you all be brought to his chambers tonight.”SORAYA’S POV Aggressively, Khai rose to his feet. The fury radiating off him was enough to drop a block of fear on all our shoulders. I had never seen Khai look at anyone the way he looked at Ragnar in that moment — like a wounded animal willing to spend its last breath on revenge. “Don’t you dare lie, you bastard! Don’t you dare deny the lives you’ve taken. Own up to the fact that you’re a murderer!” Khai’s voice thundered across the table. “I’m not denying the raids on your villages,” Ragnar said evenly, though his jaw ticked. “But those bombs are none of my doing.” Khai leaned forward, both palms braced against the table. “You expect me to believe that? Coward—” “Enough!” The word burst out of me before I could stop it. “I can’t believe the both of you are willing to risk innocent lives over this meaningless ego war.” Silence fell. Khai’s head turned toward me slowly. “What did you just say?” I swallowed, but I didn’t look away. “This isn’t about me. This is abo
SORAYA’S POV I felt like royalty. True royalty. That was one of the things Khai had made me feel and Ragnar had not. The way he always made sure I was dressed like a queen, the way he always wanted me by his side, the way he held my hand in front of everyone... it was all so surreal to me. Some may think of it as the bare minimum, but after a year with a closed-off husband, this was the definition of princess treatment to me. We arrived at the location of the conference in a convoy. Khai’s men filled the three cars ahead and the five behind. And for some reason, I was starting to believe there was a bit more security than that. A valet opened the door for Khai. Once he stepped out, he held out his hand for me. Gently, I took it, and he helped me out of the car. My eyes wandered over our surroundings. The conference was being held at one of the hosting alpha’s palaces, but I was able to recognize some of Ragnar’s men in the security. Good Lord, he was here. My bod
KHAI’S POVHammers and drills. That was the sound that filled the air as I made my way through my pack. The scent of wet cement and sweat lingered in the air, along with the grunts of my working people. Everyone was busy — it didn’t matter if they were builders or not. In order for my pack to return to what it used to be, everyone had to help. And one thing about my people? They always cooperated. We were a family. But I knew it was only a matter of time before that trust and cooperation started to waver. If these attacks from Ragnar carried on, my people would start to lose faith in me. Asides from that, this reconstruction was taking a lot from the royal treasury.More reason to fuel my desire to kill that scumbag.“I want Ragnar’s palace crippled. His armories, his barracks, his supply routes — I want them gone. Every move he makes should cost him blood and resources,” I ordered Ronan as we made our way through the under-construction halls.Ronan looked at me with uncertainty.“
SORAYA’S POV The door to the room came bursting open, and my eyes locked with Khai’s. He rushed to my side, wrapped his arms around me, and placed my head on his chest. “Ssh, ssh. It’s okay,” he said soothingly as my body trembled against his. My shaky hands gripped his shirt so hard, one would think I was scared to let go. And I was. The tears spilled out of my eyes like a waterfall. The sob that wracked my throat was almost equivalent to the one from yesterday. But Khai didn’t complain. He said nothing, actually. He just held me there tightly, whispering words of comfort in my ear. “Nothing is going to happen to you, darling. You’re safe now. You’ll always be safe with me,” he said in a tone so gentle, it was hard to believe he was the one speaking. I don’t know how long we sat there, wrapped in each other’s arms, but when I finally calmed down a bit, he cupped my face in his hands. He didn’t say anything for a while — just stared at me in silence. His attention most
SORAYA’S POV“Whose house is this?” I asked as he carried me up the stairs.“Mine. It’s one of my safehouses. Only Ronan knows it’s mine. It’s a little bit away from the pack, but not too far for me not to know what’s going on. I used to come here if I ever needed some peace and quiet,” he explained as he kicked open the door to a room.It wasn’t as large or luxurious as his room in the palace — it was more of an adequate room. The room of a commoner. He walked us to the bathroom before placing me gently on the floor. The cold tiles sent a tingle up my body, making my legs weak.“Are you okay?” he asked gently, and I nodded as I used his body to steady myself.“Let’s get rid of this,” he said, appearing behind my back to undress me.My breath caught as his fingers grazed my shoulder blades. His breath brought goosebumps to my nape. He took forever to take off my dress — but when he did, the silence after that stretched on even longer.I took it upon myself to turn around. And when I
SORAYA’S POVThe ringing in my ears was loud, yet faint. Things were moving around me, but I didn’t know what. I could feel light flash and pass from beyond my shut eyelids — they were just too heavy to lift. My body was even heavier. It felt like there were piles of rocks crushing me.It hurt. Everything hurt. From my ears to my eyes to my toes, it was all so excruciating. Why was I in so much pain? Why was everything hurting? What have I done to deserve this much hurt? The last thing I remember was that lady telling me how much I looked like someone — before it all went dark. The next time I regained consciousness was a few seconds ago… and I still haven’t opened my eyes.I could hear people — all talking. Too loud and too fast. But there was one voice I would always recognize, no matter the situation.“I want her treated right now!”“Alpha, you need to calm down. We are currently understaffed, but we’re doing everything we can to—”“I do not give a fuck about that! Right now, sh
