ALEENA's POV

The dorm hallway was too bright, the lights humming over my head as I clutched my bag in front of me, my legs unsteady. The ache between my legs was a constant reminder of what I hand let Lorcan do, and what he had refused to finish.

I reached the door, paused and listened. There was no sound coming from inside. I took a deep breath, turned the key as quietly as I could and stepped inside.

Mira was sitting on her bed in pajama shorts and an oversized t-shirt, her hair pulled up in a

  • Professor Off-Limits   Chapter 21- The Photograph

ALEENA'S POVMy phone buzzed at 6:47 in the morning.I was half asleep, my arm flung across the pillow, still caught somewhere between a dream I could not remember and the grey light coming through the curtains. I reached for it groggily without opening my eyes. My thumb swiped across the screen on instinct, expecting something—a reminder from my to do list, a text from someone, or the ususal notification the library sent me every morning, telling me I owed them twelve dollars for a book I had already returned last week. But it wasn’t all that—it was a photograph… of… Me?!!I sat up so fast my head spun and I had to blink severally to make sure I wasn't seeing things and I was indeed the one in the photograph. The angle of the photo was so wrong. That was the first thing I noticed as my vision finally cleared. It was taken from above, like someone was looking down from the top of the stairwell landing. I could see the shape of my own back, the curve of my spine against the concrete

  • Professor Off-Limits   Chapter 20- Xavier's warning

ALEENA'S POVAfter completing the signing process, I left the honor's office, and went straight to the elevator, though I could feel Lorcan's burning gaze on my back. The elevator doors slid open onto the lobby, and the marble floor caught the light in a way that made me feel like I was walking across a frozen lake. My reflection moved through the gold panels and the polished surfaces, and I barely recognized the girl looking back at me. Her hair had come loose from the clip, her lips were still swollen, and her cheeks were still flushed with something I did not want to name.I walked through the lobby with my chin up and my hands steady, because that was what I had learned to do.The night air hit my face the moment I stepped outside, cold and sharp, and I breathed it in like a woman coming up from deep water. The city was still awake around me, full of the ordinary noise of an ordinary night, and none of it touched what was still burning under my skin.I caught a cab at the corner

  • Professor Off-Limits   Chapter 19- The Tenth floor

ALEENA'S POVThe days after Mira found the note passed in a strange, quiet blur. The threat text sat in my phone like a stone I could not bring myself to delete. "You should have listened to me." I had read it so many times the words had lost their shape.I did not respond because I did not know what to say.Lorcan texted me twice that week—simple messages. "Are you alright?" and "You left in a hurry. Talk to me." I read them both and answered neither. I had not decided what I wanted to say to him yet, or whether I wanted to say anything at all.For three days, I did not see him outside of class. He lectured like nothing had happened. He did not look at me any differently than he looked at the other students. But I could feel it—a thread pulled tight between us across the room, waiting for one of us to reach for it.Mira was also watching me. I could feel that too.—That afternoon, she was sitting on her bed with her laptop when I came out of the bathroom, and she did not look up at

  • Professor Off-Limits   Chapter 18- Mira knew her secret

ALEENA'S POVI walked back to my dorm in a daze, my mind still replaying everything that had happened at Lorcan's house. The way his voice had cracked when he said Bianca's name. The way his hands had felt on my skin. The way he had kissed me like I was something precious, something he was afraid to break. And then the text. "I warned you."I touched my lips as I walked, still feeling the ghost of his mouth on mine. I had gone there to end things. I had been so sure—but I had left more entangled than ever.—When I got to my dorm, I pushed open the door and stepped inside.Mira was sitting on her bed, her laptop open in front of her. But she was not looking at the screen. She was looking at me. Her eyes were sharp, assessing, and they followed me as I walked to my bed."Where have you been?" she asked. Her voice was casual, but there was something underneath it—something careful."Just went for a walk," I said, dropping my bag on the floor. "Needed some air.""A walk." She repeated th

  • Professor Off-Limits   Chapter 17- Her resolve was broken

ALEENA'S POVWhen Lorcan said ‘Bianca,’ the name felt unfamiliar. I did not know that name, I’ve never heard it before, but I felt its weight. The way he said it, it sounded like a wound that had never healed."She was my fiancée," he continued, and his voice was low and raw in a way I had never heard it. "Three years ago. She was in a car accident when I went on a school trip. I thought she was recovering fine, then when I went to see her after I had returned, the hospital told me she had died.” He bit his lower lip and shook his head. “I had buried her. I grieved her, and I built my entire life around that grief." He paused. "Before I knew it, I had already become someone else. Someone who didn't know how to let anyone close anymore."I stared at him intently. I had never seen him like this, so vulnerable and raw. The untouchable professor was gone. In his place was a man who had lost someone he loved and had never really recovered."That's why you push people away," I said slowly

  • Professor Off-Limits   Chapter 16- She told him to stay away

ALEENA'S POVWhen I woke up the next morning, my mind was already made.It sat still in my chest like a stone, heavy and unmovable. Today, I would tell Lorcan that whatever game he was trying to play, I was no longer interested anymore. I was going to walk away and never look back.I got out of bed, and Mira had already left for class, so I just walked to the bathroom, took my shower quickly, picked out the clothes I was going to wear. A baggy jean and a simple blue sweater, then I packed my hair in it's usual ponytail with some clips and arranged my bangs properly. No seduction under it, no performance. Just me walking to his house and telling him it was over.My eyes drifted to the red silk robe hanging in my closet, a flash of color among my sweaters. I felt a pang of something sharp and unwanted in my chest, then I slammed the closet door shut, picked my bag and my phone and walked away.On my way out, I brought out my phone and texted Mira: "Going somewhere, be back before lunch

ALEENA’S POVI stood there frozen, my face still flushed.“Leena, what did Professor Lorcan give to you?”Mira said as she hurriedly walked towards me.“Huh, It's nothing.” I said and quickly shoved the paper in my bag.“That's not nothing. Come on let me see.” She said and reached for my bag.I sla

ALEENA'S POVThe next morning, I woke up, still replaying the feeling of his lips on the side of my face. • Professor Off-Limits   Chapter 3- The Reckoning

ALEENA's POVI lay on my bed, still feeling the touch of his fingers on my body. I tried to replicate the exact pressure of his fingers, but it was useless. My own touch was too soft and aware of itself. His fingers had known exactly where to go, exactly how much pressure to apply, and how to leave
