I’m living with three Hybrids in a cabin deep in the forest.

It was the thought that kept me tossing and turning all night. I managed to fall asleep in the early hours of the morning, but it was short-lived because I was woken by a roar.

It was a sound so fucking scary that I almost peed my pants. I shot upright in bed with my heart ready to jump out of my chest. My eyes darted around my room that was already bathed in bright sunlight. Curiosity had me throwing back the sheets and racing towards the window.

Pushing the curtain aside, I gaped at the scene that greeted me.

Their house, I discovered, was built near a clearing with a huge ass waterfall merely a few feet away.

I stared at the water, glistering in the sunlight like a thousand diamonds.

The urge to go out and get a closer look to explore it was too strong to resist.

After changing my clothes and pulling my hair into a ponytail, I headed downstairs.

Nobody was home.

The dirty dishes from our late night sandwiches were still in the sink, but there was no sign of the men.

I walked out of the house, but paused a few feet away to turn back and stare at the place.

It looked much smaller from the outside. The whole house was made out of big logs. It was basically a cabin in the woods. How had they managed to get all the building supplies out to the middle of nowhere to build it?

Shaking my head, I spun on my heels and walked around the side of the house towards the back.

Confusion filled me for a moment because the view from the ground was a lot different from the view I saw. There was no waterfall. I walked deeper into the woods. Finally, I could hear the faint roar of water. There was a footpath that led right to the edge of the pool beneath the waterfall. The water was so clear that I could see the sand and small pebbles at the bottom of the pool.

A sound had my head snapping up.

My mouth fell open when a very naked Ezra suddenly stalked out of the trees and towards the pool. Without glancing around, he just jumped into the water.

I watched and waited for him to resurface, but he didn’t. Panic hit when a few minutes passed and there was still no sign of him.

Did he hit his head when he dived into the water?

Without thinking it through, I kicked off my shoes and hurried into the water. Obviously, I misjudged the depth of it. One minute my feet were touching the sand and small rocks at the bottom of the pool, and the next, the water swallowed me.

I did the stupidest thing you could possibly do in such a situation—I panicked.

Arms flailingg, legs kicking, and mouth wide open.

A figure moved towards me through the water, and seconds later, an arm wrapped around my waist and pulled me against his strong body.

I sucked in a breath the moment we hit the surface and instantly regretted it when I started coughing.

“Vanya,” Ezra muttered. “Are you okay?”

I nodded as I sucked air into my lungs. When my coughing died down, I blinked away the tears and stared at him.

So he didn’t hit his head.

We were close, so close that I could see the golden flecks surrounding his irises.

“You shouldn’t be out wondering around,” he scolded, “especially since you don’t know your surroundings.”

My hands shot out to grip his shoulders when he moved.

“I s-saw the waterfall from my window and wanted to get a closer look.” I swallowed. “Then you dived into the water and you didn’t resurface after a few minutes and I panicked.”

“Vanya,” he murmured. “We can hold our breath for a long time.”

“Oh.”

He smiled, but it quickly faded. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I just didn’t expect it to be so deep.”

“You can’t swim?”

“I can.” Colour flooded my cheeks. “I’m just not a very good swimmer.”

The colour in my cheeks intensified when his eyes dropped to my mouth and stayed there. I licked my lips and watched as his eyes darkened.

“Vanya?” His eyes darted up to mine. “I really want to kiss you.”

I blinked at him.

Is he serious? He looked pretty serious. My eyes dropped to his lips that were only a few inches from mine.

“What’s stopping you?” I breathed.

Ezra swallowed. “I... I don’t know how.”

His words left me completely speechless, but it only lasted for a few seconds. I blinked at him and tried to stop myself from smiling like an idiot.

“Never?”

Ezra shook his head. I reached up and pressed my shaky fingers to his flushed cheek.

“How?”

He frowned at me. “How what?”

I blew out a breath. “How have you never kissed anybody before?” My eyes dropped to his chest, just visible above the water. “You’re super hot.”

He blinked and then looked away from me. A thought hit, and I voiced it without a second thought because curiosity was getting the best of me.

“Have you ever had sex before?”

He is defenceless. I could easily hurt him. To be honest, I had considered it, but then Devrim’s words flashed through my mind and pulled me out of my disturbing thoughts.Devrim had been right. But it didn’t make me fear Obsidian less.I sat in the chair a few feet from the bed, staring at the door as I waited for Devrim to return. Every passing second that he was away made my mind race with things that could go wrong.Darkness was creeping in on me, and I had no idea how to handle it.A whimper from the bed made my eyes snap over to it.Obsidian was on his stomach, clutching the pillow beneath his head as his big body trembled. The whimpers changed into growls that made my skin break out in goosebumps. The room suddenly fell silent again, but it didn’t last long.Rolling onto his back, Obsidian clutched at the sheets as his whimpers started up again. It got louder and louder.Tears filled my eyes.It sounded like he was in pain. What am I supposed to do? My eyes darted over to the

I think I’m going to pass out. After everything that had happened, I never thought that I would be returning to the cabin. My steps faltered when we reached the front door. Oblivious to my hesitation, Devrim opened the door and entered. As he turned to close it, his eyes locked on me. “Vanya?”When he told me that Obsidian was sick, the concern I felt had me agreeing to go with him, but standing outside the house made me second guess myself.I was about to face the man who had attacked me, the man who haunted my dreams, and not in a good way.Swallowing, I took a step forward, but my muscles tensed, preventing me from moving.“What’s wrong?” Devrim asked as he walked over to me. “You’ve gone pale.”“I…” My words trailed off when movement behind him caught my attention. My knees weakened when a wave of fear hit me. I wasn’t ready to see him yet!Panic hit next.If Devrim hadn’t grabbed hold of my arms, I would have run away.“Rosebud—”“I don’t want to see him,” I blurted.“Please, Va

What are monsters? The imaginary creatures we were sure hid under our beds? Were they the creatures that the authors and filmmakers created? Maybe the stories told to scare us were monsters in their own way? Or maybe the adults who told us those stories were the real monsters?A monster was cruel and evil.A monster was someone who found joy in hurting others. Like those men who hid in the shadows, waiting for a woman or man to come along. A monster was someone who killed without a second thought.I sniffed and reached up to wipe the tears from my cheeks. No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t pull my eyes away from the group of kids in the alley below me. I had spotted them the moment they entered. One of them had pulled out a knife and was busy dissecting a dead animal. Are they monsters? The moment the kid had pulled out the knife, I had thought of Obsidian, and then my mind had trailed to Devrim and Ezra.I hadn’t seen them in weeks. As soon as the doctor had given me a clean bil

“Get the fuck out!” Ezra sneered.I ignored him and made my way over to the bed, but he stepped in front of me and flashed his teeth. I growled at him, but he didn’t even flinch. My eyes narrowed and my fists clenched at my sides.“You’re not allowed in here,” he hissed.“I’m here to talk to Vanya,” I told him.He growled. “She doesn’t want to talk to you.”My eyes shot over his shoulder to her. Her head was bent, her hands clutching at the sheet. I sucked in a deep breath and closed my eyes. The sweet smell of her fear filled the room. She’s scared of me. “Vanya?”Her body jerked as if I’d struck her. Slowly, she raised her head, but she couldn’t look me in the eyes. Her eyes briefly glanced in my direction, then instantly lowered again. What little colour she had in her cheeks when I arrived was now gone.“Get out,” Ezra growled. “She doesn’t want to talk to you.”My eyes snap back to his. “I’m talking to her and not to you.”“She doesn’t want to fucking talk to you! What made you

There was no annoying beeping filling my ears. No machines attached to every possible inch of my body. Everything was silent which made me feel like I was alone, but I knew I wasn’t, because I could feel the comforting weight of another hand on mine.I wasn’t dead.I wasn’t alone. But I was in pain. The constant throbbing of my shoulder and the feeling of fire ants crawling all over my body was pulling me from my sleep.I didn’t want to wake up, because in my dreams, everything was okay. In my dreams, Obsidian was smiling at me, and Ezra had accepted the fact that Obsidian and Devrim loved each other. In my dreams, everything was perfect. But dreams only lasted so long before reality started creeping in and everything crumbled and the real world showed its ugly face.A soft sigh reached my ears, followed by the sound of a chair creaking. The weight on my hand disappeared, making emptiness fill me.I had fucked up and now I was all alone.“I know you’re awake, sugarplum.”I hesitated

It was all part of his plan.If Vanya died, I would be blamed for it. They’d kill me and every other pride member on the island. The humans would be turned against us by Reeves, because he was powerful enough to accomplish that.I knew he had been watching us. I knew he had seen me attacking Vanya.Small cameras had been set up in the corners. The entrance and exit had also been revealed numerous times when he entered and left. The gas he had used to knock me out in order to move me was something they had used in the facility. What was really worrying was the fact that he somehow got hold of the gas in the first place and that he knew so much about me.My eyes darted to one of the small vents I had seen hidden slightly from the human eye. It was how he was planning on knocking me out again.I was just waiting for the right time to strike. I paced back and forth next to Vanya’s unconscious body. Stopping, I licked at the deep wounds on her upper arms. A shudder raced through my body an
