Getting to my feet, I waited. Soon enough, Vanya stepped out from between the trees. She was staring at the ground, but as if she could feel my stare, her eyes shot up. Vanya sucked in a sharp breath and froze. Her hand around the strap of the bag tightened.
My eyes darted past her to Orion.
Clothes, he mouthed.
With a nod, they spun around and disappeared from sight.
Vanya, who had heard them moving, turned. “Hey! Where are you going?” she called after them in a slight panic.
I stepped forward, making twigs snap underneath my paws, which drew her attention to me again. My eyes stayed glued to her face, watching all the emotions flashing in and out of her eyes.
Vanya was scared.
She was silently trying to figure out whether she should run or stay. Not that I blamed her. It was only the second time she’d seen what we looked like in our animal form.
The animal in me wanted her to run; it was eagerly waiting for the chase to start. The human part of me, though, wanted her to be logical. She’d get hurt if I had to chase her.
A whimper fell from her lips when I stopped a few feet away.
My eyes darted to the bag when it slipped from her fingers and fell to the floor.
“P-please don’t k-kill me.”
I moved closer and carefully rubbed my body against hers. A purr bubbled up and escaped. My scent was going to be all over her when I was done rubbing against her.
“E-Ezra?’
I growled and stopped in front of her again. Her eyes darted over me, carefully studying every inch.
“You’re not Obsidian,” she muttered.
How can she possibly know the difference? Vanya had only seen him shifted once, and she hadn’t known that it was him.
“Devrim?”
I tilted my head to the side and waited.
She wore a dress that was too tight for my liking, because it drew attention to her breasts, and the two pointy tips of her nipples were clearly visible through the thin fabric.
Is she wearing any panties?
To answer that question, I pressed my snout against her leg and pushed the hem of the dress up, but before I could catch even a glimpse, Vanya pushed my head away,
“Stop!” she hissed. “Don’t you have any manners?”
I flashed sharp teeth at her and tried again. This time, Vanya slapped my snout, making me yelp and jump back in shock and pain. Using my paw, I rubbed the spot she hit.
“I’m sorry,” she cried, reaching for me but not touching. “It’s rude to sniff me… there.”
If I did it again, would she get more aggressive?
The tip of my tail started twitching as I stared at her. Vanya crouched and hesitantly reached out.
I held still and waited. A second later, her fingertips brushed my fur. Curiosity and what looked like wonder filled her eyes.
“You’re so soft,” she whispered. “Your fur feels like silk.”
Her hand slid over my head and down my neck. Our females never petted us or looked at us the way she was looking at me when we were in our animal form.
“Your eyes are kind of freaky.”
I licked her knee before taking a step closer and dropping my face onto her lap. Discretely, so Vanya wouldn’t notice, I tilted my head to the side and sniffed at her.
I purred in pleasure when I realized that she smelled like Ezra and a little bit like Obsidian. All that was left was for me to mark her with my seed. The thought excited me, and this time, Vanya noticed.
“Oh.”
Pressing my head against her lower stomach, I pushed until she fell onto her ass. I ignored her shocked gasp and moved my head up and pressed it against her chest.
“W-what are you doing?” she questioned.
I kept on pushing until Vanya was on her back. Careful not to step on her, I braced myself above her. She blinked at me and then lowered her gaze.
Purring, I sniffed along her neck and then licked the skin beneath her ear. Vanya shivered.
The first snap of bone made her flinch. The second had the colour draining from her face, and the third had Vanya squeezing her eyes closed.
Pain filled me as the shift took over. I was breathless by the time it was over. It always hurt to shift forms, it was why most of us never shifted and decided to stay in our animal form.
I hesitated only for a second before lowering my body on top of hers. Most of my weight was supported by my elbows next to her shoulders. I didn’t want to crush or hurt her since I knew that the forest floor wasn’t the most comfortable place.
Vanya had turned her head to the right during the last part of the shift.
Lowering my head, I pressed my face to the crook of her neck and breathed in her scent. Vanya was completely frozen beneath me. I could hear the erratic beat of her heart and smell the sweet scent of her fear.
Licking the skin above her pulse, I raised my head and stared down at her.
“Vanya.”
Slowly, she opened her eyes and turned her head towards me.
She swallowed loudly. “D-Devrim.”
My eyes searched hers. The fear in her eyes remained.
It had guilt flooding me; I knew she was scared of me because of what happened last night.
“I will never hurt you,” I whispered.
“Y-you were furious at me.” Her eyes lowered. “I didn’t m-mean to read it. I was curious and t-then I saw Obsidian’s name at the top. I thought that maybe if I knew w-why he acted like that, I could—”
“Vanya,” I interrupted, “those files are confidential. Nobody but me has the right to read those, and for good reasons. It’s not meant for you or anybody. I know you want to help, but you were wrong by doing what you did.”
She nodded. “I’m sorry.”
“I’m sorry that I scared you last night,” I apologized. “It was never my intention to go off on you like that.”
“Do you hate humans too?” she questioned. “Deep down inside, do you hate us too?”
I swallowed and tried to find the right words to help her understand. “I hate the humans who created us. I hate what they had done to everybody in the facility. I hate that Obsidian had to suffer through what he did because of them, but I understand that not all humans are like those who abused us.”
Tears filled her eyes and slowly slid down the side of her face into her hair. “Did they… did they really…?”
Pain shot through me. Instead of answering, I caught one of her tears with my lips. What could I tell her when she obviously read more than what I thought she had?
“I saw his name on top and the word caught my eye.” She sniffled. “Tell me, Dev, please.”
I shook my head. “I can’t tell you anything, rosebud. You know that.”
“Because I’m not one of you.”
I nodded. She didn’t need to know all the details. Nobody did, but I had to. It was my duty to protect them and make sure that they never suffered the way they had in that place.
Unfortunately, I knew that nothing could take away Obsidian’s pain or the memories that haunted him.
“He needs you, but he doesn’t know it yet,” I whispered. “We all need you more than you’ll ever know, Vanya. No matter what we do or how we act, promise me that you won’t give up on us—especially not on Obsidian.”
Her expressive eyes darted over my face, and after a second’s hesitation, she nodded. “I promise.”
I leaned down and captured her lips. Vanya didn’t immediately kiss me back which hurt a little. It took a few seconds for her to react to the kiss.
“I’m sorry,” I muttered in between kisses. “I’m sorry about last night.”
I bit her bottom lip and soothed the pain with my tongue. “I didn’t mean to yell at you. Forgive me, rosebud?”
Breaking the kiss, I leaned back to stare down at her. “What do you want me to do to make it up to you?”
My eyes dropped to her swollen lips when she licked them. It took a few minutes for her to answer me.
“I’ll let you know when I come up with something.”
He is defenceless. I could easily hurt him. To be honest, I had considered it, but then Devrim’s words flashed through my mind and pulled me out of my disturbing thoughts.Devrim had been right. But it didn’t make me fear Obsidian less.I sat in the chair a few feet from the bed, staring at the door as I waited for Devrim to return. Every passing second that he was away made my mind race with things that could go wrong.Darkness was creeping in on me, and I had no idea how to handle it.A whimper from the bed made my eyes snap over to it.Obsidian was on his stomach, clutching the pillow beneath his head as his big body trembled. The whimpers changed into growls that made my skin break out in goosebumps. The room suddenly fell silent again, but it didn’t last long.Rolling onto his back, Obsidian clutched at the sheets as his whimpers started up again. It got louder and louder.Tears filled my eyes.It sounded like he was in pain. What am I supposed to do? My eyes darted over to the
I think I’m going to pass out. After everything that had happened, I never thought that I would be returning to the cabin. My steps faltered when we reached the front door. Oblivious to my hesitation, Devrim opened the door and entered. As he turned to close it, his eyes locked on me. “Vanya?”When he told me that Obsidian was sick, the concern I felt had me agreeing to go with him, but standing outside the house made me second guess myself.I was about to face the man who had attacked me, the man who haunted my dreams, and not in a good way.Swallowing, I took a step forward, but my muscles tensed, preventing me from moving.“What’s wrong?” Devrim asked as he walked over to me. “You’ve gone pale.”“I…” My words trailed off when movement behind him caught my attention. My knees weakened when a wave of fear hit me. I wasn’t ready to see him yet!Panic hit next.If Devrim hadn’t grabbed hold of my arms, I would have run away.“Rosebud—”“I don’t want to see him,” I blurted.“Please, Va
What are monsters? The imaginary creatures we were sure hid under our beds? Were they the creatures that the authors and filmmakers created? Maybe the stories told to scare us were monsters in their own way? Or maybe the adults who told us those stories were the real monsters?A monster was cruel and evil.A monster was someone who found joy in hurting others. Like those men who hid in the shadows, waiting for a woman or man to come along. A monster was someone who killed without a second thought.I sniffed and reached up to wipe the tears from my cheeks. No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t pull my eyes away from the group of kids in the alley below me. I had spotted them the moment they entered. One of them had pulled out a knife and was busy dissecting a dead animal. Are they monsters? The moment the kid had pulled out the knife, I had thought of Obsidian, and then my mind had trailed to Devrim and Ezra.I hadn’t seen them in weeks. As soon as the doctor had given me a clean bil
“Get the fuck out!” Ezra sneered.I ignored him and made my way over to the bed, but he stepped in front of me and flashed his teeth. I growled at him, but he didn’t even flinch. My eyes narrowed and my fists clenched at my sides.“You’re not allowed in here,” he hissed.“I’m here to talk to Vanya,” I told him.He growled. “She doesn’t want to talk to you.”My eyes shot over his shoulder to her. Her head was bent, her hands clutching at the sheet. I sucked in a deep breath and closed my eyes. The sweet smell of her fear filled the room. She’s scared of me. “Vanya?”Her body jerked as if I’d struck her. Slowly, she raised her head, but she couldn’t look me in the eyes. Her eyes briefly glanced in my direction, then instantly lowered again. What little colour she had in her cheeks when I arrived was now gone.“Get out,” Ezra growled. “She doesn’t want to talk to you.”My eyes snap back to his. “I’m talking to her and not to you.”“She doesn’t want to fucking talk to you! What made you
There was no annoying beeping filling my ears. No machines attached to every possible inch of my body. Everything was silent which made me feel like I was alone, but I knew I wasn’t, because I could feel the comforting weight of another hand on mine.I wasn’t dead.I wasn’t alone. But I was in pain. The constant throbbing of my shoulder and the feeling of fire ants crawling all over my body was pulling me from my sleep.I didn’t want to wake up, because in my dreams, everything was okay. In my dreams, Obsidian was smiling at me, and Ezra had accepted the fact that Obsidian and Devrim loved each other. In my dreams, everything was perfect. But dreams only lasted so long before reality started creeping in and everything crumbled and the real world showed its ugly face.A soft sigh reached my ears, followed by the sound of a chair creaking. The weight on my hand disappeared, making emptiness fill me.I had fucked up and now I was all alone.“I know you’re awake, sugarplum.”I hesitated
It was all part of his plan.If Vanya died, I would be blamed for it. They’d kill me and every other pride member on the island. The humans would be turned against us by Reeves, because he was powerful enough to accomplish that.I knew he had been watching us. I knew he had seen me attacking Vanya.Small cameras had been set up in the corners. The entrance and exit had also been revealed numerous times when he entered and left. The gas he had used to knock me out in order to move me was something they had used in the facility. What was really worrying was the fact that he somehow got hold of the gas in the first place and that he knew so much about me.My eyes darted to one of the small vents I had seen hidden slightly from the human eye. It was how he was planning on knocking me out again.I was just waiting for the right time to strike. I paced back and forth next to Vanya’s unconscious body. Stopping, I licked at the deep wounds on her upper arms. A shudder raced through my body an
