Izariah-Once I cried all the tears I could, I wiped my face with the back of my hands. Sniffling a few times, I took a couple of deep breaths. It has been years since I have felt the extent of losing my childhood best friend.Leaning my head back, I stretched my legs out and leaned my head against the door. Closing my eyes, I tried to ready myself to face everyone again. I thought about hiding away inside the cabin I was in, but I knew that I had to keep my head up in front of others. After the stunt that Braxton pulled, I couldn’t let him win. I was not going to hide away like a coward. Slowly, I opened my eyes again and let out a long sigh.“I can do this.” I whispered to myself, trying to find the courage I needed to walk out of this room.Repeating the words in my head a few times, I pulled my heels back and used my hands to boost myself up and off the ground. Giving myself one last pep talk, I lifted my chin and straightened my spin. Turning to face the door, I placed my hand on
Izariah-It took me a while to find the room I was given, but thankfully I wasn’t sharing with anyone. Everyone else had to share, but I didn’t. I knew it was due to Braxton, but right now I didn’t care.I did not want to be in the same room with someone who was going to end up stabbing me in the back or something while I slept. With how everything has been going, I knew it was a possibility. At least now I could have a place to escape away from everyone.Opening my door, I sucked in a deep breath when my gaze fell upon the room. The room was huge, but that wasn’t what caught my gaze. It was the large window that made up the window on the far side of the room. There was a sliding glass door that led out onto the balcony, which overlooked the beach and a beautiful view of the ocean. I started walking towards the window, only to stop when I noticed something sitting on the king-size bed in the room. A duffle bag sat on the bed, with a fancy paper sack next to it.Not sure what it was, I
Braxton- Sitting outside, I was debating on going into the resort to bring Izariah outside. The bonfire started an hour ago and I thought she would have joined by now. She was the only one that hasn’t come out. I had hoped to see her, just so I could look at her. As much as I didn’t understand why she affected me as she did, I could fully admit that I did enjoy looking at her. She was beautiful. “Braxton, would you like a drink?” Jennifer asked me as she sat next to me on the tree trunk I was using as a seat. A few trees in the area had been cut down and placed around the site, for seating. We used to have nice outdoor furniture, but I had wanted it to be more authentic for the setting. It felt like a real campfire, like the ones I used to have with Jace, Sebastian, and Lex when we were younger. I might have more money than I knew what to do with, but things like this couldn’t be bought with money. “No.” I said simply, not bothering to glance at her. “All right. Anyway, I don’t t
Izariah- Returning to the bonfire, I no longer had any desire to hang out with anyone. The only reason I agreed to join everyone was in the hopes of getting to spend time with Jace. There was something about him that spoke to my soul. I didn’t know why, but I believed that the calmness I felt around him would open the door to us becoming good friends. Since arriving though, I hadn’t seen him. When I arrived, Lex pulled me into a group he was talking to, but I didn’t know anyone. Lex didn’t seem like a bad guy, but he was a massive flirt. I am sure that every girl he had talked to had had his attention at some point. On the other hand, he was rather charming. Every girl he spoke to lit up like he made their world spin. I didn’t feel any attraction toward him, but I couldn’t deny that there was something about him that made me feel at ease. Once I looked past his flirting, he wasn’t bad. In a short time, I learned he had an intelligence that very few people could achieve. “I was won
Izariah-I woke up to a loud pounding on my door. Pulling my covers over my head, I tried to tune the sound out, but it only intensified. Groaning, I rolled over on my side to smash my pillow over my ears.Nothing I did seemed to matter as the banging would not stop. Kicking my covers off, I screamed into my pillow. I was generally a morning person, but I felt like I had barely fallen asleep.“Okay!” I yelled.Rolling out of bed, I walked over to the door and yanked it open. “What the hell?” I demanded at Braxton, who was standing in the hall with his fist in the air.“I told you we were going into town today. We are leaving in five minutes.” He had a smile on his face that reminded me of a child’s smile. He looked a little cute and not like he was a natural-born killer or something. It softened my mood a little, but not enough to tell him exactly what I felt about him pounding on my door. Turning my head, I looked at the clock on the wall and sighed.“It is five in the morning. You p
Izariah-Getting out of the car, I felt a little uneasy with how he was treating me. Now he was being attentive and like a decent man. I wasn't sure if I should trust the way he was acting. The best thing I can do for myself is to keep my guard up."Have you ever been in a helicopter?” Braxton asked me as we walked toward it.“Wait, we are going up in that thing?”The laughter that flowed out of him was a little surprising. It was pure and sounded as if it was something that very few had a chance to hear. Looking at him, I realized that he was entirely different from his usual self.Even his demeanor was more relaxed and as if he weren’t angry all the time. Prior to this morning, he always seemed uptight and in a foul mood. This side of him almost made me think I could be his friend.“Yes, we are. I was going to take you into town and have fun, but I changed my mind. I want to show you my favorite spot in the entire world.” His smile was contagious, causing me to return the smile.Bra
Izariah-When we stepped out of the helicopter, I was hit with a blast of heat. Looking at the helicopter, I wondered if it would be okay to be exposed to this intense of heat. I didn’t get a chance to ask Braxton, because he answered my unspoken question.“It will be fine. This isn’t the first time I have used it to come up here. We won’t be able to stay for more than thirty minutes, however.” Even thirty minutes seemed like a long time to be exposed to this heat. Barely a minute outside of the helicopter and I was sweating. Pulling out my phone, I set it for twenty minutes so we could know when to head back.“How close can we get to the lava? I would really like to see it up close.” I asked when we started walking up a path, toward the tip of the volcano.“There is a small leak over here, where you will be able to view it. Whatever you do, don’t let it touch you. It will burn through your flesh and bones in a matter of seconds.”Nodding my head, I followed Braxton as he led the way
Jace-Braxton led us to where he believed Izariah fell. Seeing how far she rolled down, I worried that we would find her dead somewhere. He filled us in on how much time has passed between hearing her scream until now. It has been about half an hour. The urgency to find her was increasing by the second. She has already been exposed to the elements for roughly an hour.It pissed me off that he felt the need to bring her here, and then leave her alone to get something to drink. The moment she was left alone, a number of things could have happened, one of which already did. Now she was lost somewhere, probably injured or worse.I should have never gone to meet with my family when I had been the one to invite her to the barbeque. If anyone were to blame, it was me. I knew better than anyone that Braxton had set his sights on her and knowing him, it wasn’t for anything good.I had already vowed to protect her, even if I didn’t fully understand why. There was something about her that intere
