LOGINCHAPTER 4: Lyra's POV
“Look what we found crawling through the dirt, boys. A little pack ran away.” The mocking voice sliced through the dark forest, accompanied by a low, vibrating growl that made the hair on my arms stand up. I didn't stop running until my legs completely gave out, collapsing heavily onto the damp earth. I knew almost nothing about the wild land outside my old pack's borders. I had spent my entire life confined inside those secure stone walls, feeling perfectly safe because of a mate bond that had ultimately turned out to be worth absolutely nothing. Now, I was deep inside a dense forest that belonged to no pack I recognized. This was completely neutral territory—the lawless wilderness lone wolves only used to talk about in terrified whispers. It was land nobody claimed because nobody was strong enough to hold it. For two agonizing days, I survived on nothing but bitter stream water and whatever wild berries I could scavenge from the thickets. I forced myself to sleep high up in the branches of oak trees to avoid whatever dangerous predators moved on the ground at night. My back still bled through my torn shirt, the fabric sticking painfully to my raw skin with every single movement. “She smells like the twins' pack,” another voice snarled from the thick shadows to my left. “But she’s completely cut off from them. There’s no alpha scent protecting her anymore.” Three massive rogue wolves stepped out from behind the heavy trees, their golden eyes glowing in the dark. They circled me fast, snapping their jaws and testing exactly how weak I really was. I squeezed my eyes shut for a second, my heart hammering against my ribs. I had no pack warriors standing behind me now. I had no powerful Alphas to call out to for rescue. I only had my own completely exhausted body and a wolf that had barely fed or shifted in weeks. “Get away from me,” I choked out, pushing myself up against a jagged boulder and flashing my teeth. “Or what?” the largest rogue mocked, stepping closer and baring his long, yellow fangs. “Who is going to stop us? Your Alphas threw you away like garbage.” I fought them anyway. When the first rogue lunged forward, I unleashed a scream of pure desperation, striking out with my bare fingernails and teeth. I managed to slice my claws across his muzzle, making him howl in surprise. But I was too weak, my movements too slow from days of starvation. The largest rogue seized the opportunity, throwing his heavy weight against me and driving me hard into the dirt. His sharp teeth tore directly into my side, leaving a deep, burning gash across my ribs. “Is that all you've got?” the rogue growled, shaking the blood from his muzzle. I clawed at his eyes, kicking out wildly with my boots until I managed to plant a heavy blow directly against his throat. He gagged, stumbling backward into the brush. The other two rogues hesitated, looking at their injured leader, before they all slowly backed away into the deep trees, realizing I wouldn't be an effortless kill. The moment they vanished, my strength completely vanished too. I collapsed back against the cold rock, my hand clutching my side as warm blood soaked rapidly through my fingers and into the dirt. I stared blindly at the canopy above, certain this was exactly how it ended for me. I was going to bleed to death, completely alone in a piece of land that didn't even have a name. “Hold your positions! Secure the eastern tree line immediately!” The loud, commanding shout echoed through the clearing, shattering the quiet night. Through my blurred, heavy vision, I saw bright torchlight moving rapidly through the thick trees. “Over here! I found a blood trail!” another voice barked. Several men moved into the clearing with military precision, their voices calling out in a strict language of orders and formations that I didn't recognize at all. Their movements were highly trained, nothing like the wild, aggressive posturing of my old pack's warriors. “Stand down, men,” a deep, incredibly calm voice commanded from the center of the lights. “The rogues are already gone.” The crowd of armed men parted instantly, allowing a tall figure to step into the center of the clearing. He walked slowly toward me, the heavy thud of his boots stopping right where the dirt was stained with my blood. He knelt down directly in front of my broken body, his dark eyes fixed on my face as he quietly studied my fresh wounds. “Another troublesome one…”Chapter 7Theron's POVA loud noise echoed through my room as a firm knock landed on my bedroom door.Three sharp knocks, one pause, then another.Coren! He's for sure the only one brave enough to risk his life to disturbing my sleep. I opened my eyes immediately, and the sky beyond the tall windows was still pitch black, the first hint of dawn nowhere in sight."Enter." I finally spoke. The heavy wooden door swung inward, revealing my Beta standing in full battle attire. His expression was as stern as ever, but the tightly rolled parchment in his hand told me this wasn't a routine report."A messenger arrived from the northern mountains. He insisted this reach only you." Coren said quietly, walking toward my desk.I sat upright and accepted the scroll. The seal pressed into the dark wax made my expression harden instantly, and a crescent moon enclosed within a circle. The Seer….Without another word, I broke the seal and unrolled the parchment.“Come alone… The moon has spoken agai
Chapter 6Lyra's POV The moment Theron disappeared through the doorway, the room fell into complete silence.I let out a shaky breath I hadn't even realized I had been holding. My racing heart slowly settled back into my chest as I stared blankly at the closed wooden door.Everything about that conversation had left me confused.I had expected threats, interrogation or perhaps another prison. Instead, he had asked questions, and nothing more. The door opened again a few minutes later, and Sable walked back inside carrying a fresh bowl of warm water along with several clean bandages."You pulled your stitches, I told you not to keep jumping around." she muttered, setting everything down on the small table."I didn't exactly plan on it. No patient ever does." I frowned. She gently peeled away the bloodstained bandage from around my ribs. I couldn't stop myself from hissing through my teeth as the cool air touched the wound."It isn't as bad as I feared," Sable said after examining it
CHAPTER 5: Lyra's POV“Don't jump out of your bed, girl, you are entirely safe here.”I bolted upright, a sharp gasp tearing from my throat as my palms slammed against crisp, clean sheets. My whole body throbbed with an intense, burning agony. The deep slashes from the rogue wolves across my ribs felt like fire, and the older, raw cuts from the leather cane across my back stung fiercely against the soft mattress. I looked around wildly, realizing this definitely was not my dark, damp prison cell.“Where am I?” I demanded, my voice cracking as I pulled the thick blanket tight against my chest. “Who are you?”A woman with short black hair sat on a wooden chair right near the door. She held a bowl of clean water and a fresh roll of white bandages in her lap.“You are in the Ironveil pack hospital room,” she said, her voice completely calm as she set the bowl down. “My name is Sable. Our border scouts brought you in last night after you collapsed in the dirt. Alpha Theron ordered me to pa

CHAPTER 3: Lyra's POV“Get inside, traitor, and don't make a sound.”The heavy iron door slammed shut behind me with a loud, metallic screech that vibrated right through my bones. I tumbled forward, the rough silver chains around my wrists dragging against the damp stone floor. I had spent my entire life believing this underground cell was reserved for dangerous criminals and murderous rogues. I never once imagined it would hold someone born inside the pack, let alone someone who had bled and worked for it for three years.I curled up on the frozen stone floor that first night, staring up at the single slit of moonlight cutting through the masonry near the high ceiling.“Ryker will realize this is wrong,” I whispered into the darkness, my voice trembling. “Renn won't let them keep me here. Someone will come get me by morning.”But morning came, and the light shifted, and nobody came.By the third day, the heavy iron bolts on the door finally slid back. I pushed myself up against the w
CHAPTER 2: Lyra's POV“Step back, Lyra. Nobody wants your dirt rubbing off on them before the morning training session.”The harsh voice belonged to a warrior I had personally given medicine to just last week. I stopped right in the middle of the stone pathway, my fingers freezing around the edge of my jacket. By the time the sun had completely cleared the trees this morning, the entire pack had already decided exactly who I was.Warriors who used to bow their heads out of respect now actively crossed to the other side of the path. Women I had shared meals with looked through me like I was made of glass. I kept my head high, forcing my legs to move toward the central council hall. I needed answers. I needed to see the council records myself.Instead, Beta Thomas met me right at the base of the stone steps, a folded piece of parchment gripped tightly in his hand.“Don't bother going inside,” Thomas said, his face completely expressionless as he held out the paper. “The Alphas signed th
