Chapter 7

Theron's POV

A loud noise echoed through my room as a firm knock landed on my bedroom door.

Three sharp knocks, one pause, then another.

Coren!

He's for sure the only one brave enough to risk his life to disturbing my sleep.

I opened my eyes immediately, and the sky beyond the tall windows was still pitch black, the first hint of dawn nowhere in sight.

"Enter." I finally spoke.

The heavy wooden door swung inward, revealing my Beta standing in full battle attire. His expression was a

Chapter 83Theron's POVThe moment Lyra opened the door, I could tell something had changed. She gave me a small smile, but there was something behind it that I couldn't quite place."Are you all right?" I stepped inside and closed the door behind me, keeping my eyes on her."I'm fine." She nodded."You don't look fine." I frowned."I'm just tired." She glanced toward the bed before looking back at me. I didn't believe her, but I didn't want to push her into telling me something she wasn't ready to share. I walked closer and took her good hand in mine, rubbing my thumb gently across her knuckles."How is your hand?" I asked instead."Better." She answered briefly."So Alpha Kael left, uhhnn?" I asked, then looked toward the door."Yes." Lyra's expression changed slightly."What did he want?" I asked."He just wanted to speak with me." She hesitated."I know that, but what did he say?" I raised a brow, and she looked away."Lyra." I felt something tighten in my chest."He confessed t

Chapter 82Lyra's POVI immediately felt suffocated as soon as his words reached my ears. I stared at him, unsure of what to say.His confession was not entirely unexpected. I had noticed the way he looked at me during the ceremony, the way he had asked me to dance, and the interest he had shown since arriving in Ironveil. Still, hearing him say the words so openly made the situation different."I know this may be difficult for you to hear, especially after everything that has happened in your life, but I don't want to hide how I feel anymore." Alpha Kael took a step closer."You barely know me." I looked down at my bandaged hand."I know enough to know that I want you, Lyra." He spoke softly to me, and his words made me look at him again."I have watched you since I came here, Lyra. You are not like the women I have met in other packs. “You don't try to impress anyone, and you don't bend simply because someone has power over you. There is something about you that makes me want to

Chapter 81 Lyra's POV The moment we were away from the others, Theron slowed his pace and looked down at my hand. "You should have told me it hurt." He frowned. "It isn't that bad." I shook my head. "That doesn't mean I want you pretending it doesn't." His voice was filled with worry. "You looked angry when you walked in." I gave him a small smile, though I could still feel the sting across my skin. "I was!” His answer made my smile disappear. "I thought you were angry with me." I blinked. "Lyra, I could never look at you like that and believe the worst of you without hearing you first." Theron stopped walking and turned toward me, his expression softening immediately. The tension that had settled inside me finally eased. I hadn't realized how much I had been holding my breath until that moment. "I was only angry because you were hurt." He reached up and touched my cheek with his free hand. He continued walking, but instead of taking me toward the infirmary, he led me

Chapter 80Theron's POVThe moment I stepped into the kitchen, my eyes went straight to Selene on the floor. She looked frightened, one hand pressed against her side as though she had been badly hurt, while Lyra stood several steps away with Sable beside her. The anger that crossed my face had nothing to do with Lyra, but the moment her eyes met mine, I saw the worry in them."I didn't push her; I was only cooking with Sable when Selene came in and started causing trouble," Lyra said quickly. “She poured everything I was making into the sink, and when I confronted her, she suddenly fell." She thought I believed Selene."That isn't what happened." Selene shook her head before Lyra could say anything more. She slowly pushed herself up from the floor, allowing one of the nearby maids to help her sit properly. Her expression was carefully wounded, and when she looked at me, she seemed to struggle to hold back tears."I only came here because I saw Lyra using the Alpha's kitchen without

Chapter 79Lyra's POVThe moment Theron disappeared down the corridor with Coren, I found myself staring after him longer than I intended. The guards he had stationed outside my door reminded me that I was supposed to stay inside, but being alone after everything that had happened over the past few days felt strange. The cabin had given me a taste of something I had never allowed myself to have before, and now that Theron was gone, the memory of those quiet hours together kept returning to me.I touched my lips and smiled before catching myself.I had barely settled onto the edge of my bed when the door opened, and Sable walked in without waiting for permission. "Where have you been?" She closed it behind her, looked at me for several seconds, and narrowed her eyes."I have been here." I blinked innocently. "Don't lie to me, Lyra. I came looking for you yesterday, and nobody knew where you were.” Sable folded her arms across her chest. “Then you suddenly return looking happier tha

Chapter 78Theron's POVThe loud whistle that pierced the sky brought me to my feet immediately.Lyra looked at me from across the cabin, her expression changing when she noticed the tension that had settled over mine. The sound came again, carrying through the trees from somewhere beyond the clearing.I recognized the signal. It was the emergency call used by Ironveil warriors when something required my immediate attention."That's from the pack," I said as I reached for my coat."What happened?" Lyra stood. "I don't know yet, but Coren wouldn't use that signal unless it was important." I walked toward the door, already preparing to leave."I'm coming with you." Lyra followed me."You should stay here." I turned to her. "Theron, if something happened at Ironveil, I need to know." She argued. "I will tell you everything when I return." I insisted. She looked at me for a moment, clearly unhappy with the answer, but before she could argue, movement caught my attention beyond the tr
