“Thwack!” The force of the slap sent Evelyn crashing to the floor, unable to make a sound in shock. “Argh!” Bianca yelled, “you dare to hit mother?! I’ll teach you a lesson!” She lunged at Violet, but Violet sidestepped her quickly. Another slap landed in Bianca’s cheek and the latter stumbled backwards, her lips bleeding, and eyes wide and disbelieving. “Y…You…You!” She said through gritted teeth, her eyes burning with hatred. Then they widened in fear the next second, “Don’t…Don’t come any closer!” Violet did not heed her wishes. She walked right up to Bianca and grabbed her hair, forcing her neck to snap back with the force. “What are you doing?! You crazy woman! Let her go!” Evelyn screamed from her position on the floor but she did not get up to help Bianca. The aura radiating off Violet was deadly and terrifying. Bianca whimpered in pain and Violet leaned in to say coldly to her face, “The next time you think you will touch a cent of my money, you will be paying with your life!” She pushed Bianca to the floor, her eyes filled with disgust as the two women huddled in fear on the floor. Violet scoffed in mockery. She hadn’t even started to deal with them yet, and they were already this scared? Good. Let them have a taste of what it feels like to be under. “WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?!” A voice thundered from the doorway and everyone turned to stare at Elias. He’d just woken up and had witnessed the manner in which Violet had dealt to his mother and Bianca. He stormed into the room, just as Bianca burst into tears and threw herself into his arms, “Elias! Violet slapped mom and me! She’s completely nuts!” Evelyn bounded to her feet and rushed to her son as well, “She’s crazy! I only asked her to prepare breakfast for her son and us, and she nearly tried to kill us!” Elias’s face darkened with rage and he faced Violet, “Have you lost your mind?!” He thundered, “How dare you lay your hands on my mom and Bianca?!” “Fuck your mom and Bianca, Elias.” Violet retorted calmly, then stepped forward, her gaze deadly, “I want a divorce!” Silence fell on the room for a second, then Elias gave a shout of laughter, “Divorce?!” He sneered, “You’ve got to be kidding me! You’re just a poor orphan with no one to support you but my family! Do you think you can survive without us?!” Violet did not bother to answer his question, “I’ll have my lawyered draft the divorce papers and send them over to you,” she glared at him, "You'd better sign them or else…” Elias grabbed her by the wrist, trembling with anger that rolled off him like a cologne. Violet did not back down in fear like she’d have done in her previous life. Instead, she stood her ground and faced him. His eyes were rimmed with rage, and there was not one ounce of love in his eyes. Instead. They were filled with mockery, disgust and anger. Violet blinked at the sight, wondering how long it had been since he’d hated her, and how blind had she been not to notice it in her previous life. “Don’t push your luck, Violet!” Elias said through gritted teeth, “Do you think I won’t really divorce you?! You think you can act up this way, and get away Scot free?!” “Exactly.” Violet said coldly, swinging her arm away from his hold, “Sign the divorce papers, and get the hell away from my life!” She was dead serious. Elias noticed this with a start. Evelyn and Bianca did the same, giving each other stunned looks. If Violet was really serious about the divorce, then that was bad. Their livelihood would be cut short. Where would they get the money for their expensive trips and extravagant lifestyle if not for Violet’s salary? Who was going to look after Theo and raise him? Bianca gritted her teeth and spoke up, "Divorce is a serious matter! We just asked you to prepare breakfast and send us some money! Why do you have to take it this far?!” “Yes Violet,” Evelyn put in, giving a high sniff of disdain, “This attitude is outrageous! How do you expect Elias to still love you with all that anger! You’re not fit to be a good wife at all!” Violet turned and gave them a chilling smile, “Exactly. He’d be better off without me, don’t you think?” Evelyn jerked in shock at those words. That was not what she’d meant at all! This Violet! She was such a sly wench! Elias cleared his throat hurriedly, and shot a warning look to both Bianca and Evelyn. Seeing that something must have set Violet off to make her demand divorce, he did not want them provoking her all the more. He absolutely cannot let her leave. Violet was just as submissive and obedient as he wanted, a pawn which he’d carefully trained and manipulated to do his will and care for his family. All while he enjoyed the good life with Bianca. He was not willing to let the good times go. He looked at Violet and decided to try again, “Violet, I’ll pretend I did not hear those nonsense words you just uttered,” he said, his tone arrogant and goading, “You want a divorce? What about Theo? Who’s going to take care of him? How do you think he’ll grow up to feel when he hears his mother left him?” “His mother?!” Violet laughed bitterly, “I never birthed that bastard. Why should I care about him?!” Elara’s face crumpled with shock at those words, then contorted in rage at the next second, “WHO ARE YOU CALLING A BASTARD?!” “Did I stutter?” Violet smirked devilishly, “Theo is the bastard child you had with Bianca! You brought him and his whore of a mother into our home to mock me! You never loved me! You only wanted a nanny and a cash cow! DID I STUTTER, ELIAS?!” Elias stumbled backwards, his face ashen, “Y…You, how did you know all that?!” Violet jabbed a well manicured finger into his chest painfully, “You’d better sign the divorce papers when they come. Or else, I’m exposing your dirty affair with Bianca to the public myself!” Elias took a deep breath, his eyes burning with rage, “You actually think I won’t go through with it?! Let’s see what you become once you’re out of this family! You’re worth nothing! And when you come crawling back, don’t expect me to take you in, because I won’t!” Violet smiled in victory. Those were exactly the words she had wanted to hear. “You’d better keep your words, Elias.” Beside them, Bianca and Evelyn looked at each other in dismay. Violet turned and walked out of the bedroom, heading straight for the front door. The Carter family followed behind her. On her way, Baby Theo rolled in front of her in his scroller. Violet looked at the child coldly, then bent down to pat his head stiffly. “Don’t touch my son! You abandoned him already, so don’t play a loving mother!” Elias looked as though he was about to explode, “Violet, you will regret this!” Violet smirked and slammed the door close behind her. Oh Elias, I’d like to see you try to make me regret when your skin is peeling off you in 165•F heat! She walked to her car. Once inside she held up the piece of hair strand she just plucked out of Theo’s head. On her other hand were several pieces of fine hair strand she’d plucked off Bianca’s head as well when she’d grabbed her earlier. Elias thought she was playing a loving mother one last time. He did not know she was setting the stage to tear off their disgusting, hypocritical mask. Get ready, Elias. It’s only going to get hotter from here on! She reached for her cellphone and dialed a number. “Mr Whitmore, this is Violet Ashford. I’m ready to discuss my inheritance.”Chapter Seven Elias stood in the middle of his living room, a puzzled frown on his face as he listened to the loud voice ranting on speaker from his cellphone. “Jack, slow down! What did you just say Violet did?!” He asked suddenly, his heart pounding in his ears. “I said, your loser wife bought an eighty million dollar property and completely humiliated me!” Jack sounded furious, "What the hell man?! Can’t you even keep your wife in check…” Elias was no longer listening to him. At the mention of those words, even Bianca and Evelyn had rushed into the room. Bianca had been in a foul mood all day because she had to take care of Theo, who was actually a brat, and Evelyn, who was demanding and insufferable. She wondered how Violet had been doing it for years without complaint, and cursed her for leaving her to this fate. Her relationship with Evelyn had been strained as Evelyn saw she was not as compliant as Violet, and Bianca thought Evelyn was an insufferable, old woman.
Chapter Six Violet held her ground, glaring coldly back at Jack. Jack sneered in her face, “You think you can come in here and play big shot with a fake card?!” He was yelling and this attracted attention from other customers in the sales office. They all looked towards them with interest, some even had their phones up recording what was going on. Violet’s jaw clenched in anger, but her voice was deathly calm, “Jack Harlow, are you out of your mind?!” Jack laughed. Seeing that he now had an audience, he puffed up his chest and went on, “Violet, you’re just a loser wife who hands all her money to her husband. Where on earth would you get the money to purchase an eighty-million dollar property?!” he went on arrogantly, whipping out his own card, “You’re a poor orphan with no inheritance as well. Do you think you can fool us all?” He placed the card on the table before the sales agent, “Swipe it,” he uttered cockily. The sales agent quickly collected it, “Yes sir.” He
Chapter Five Elias has a headache. He gritted his teeth, and tried to clampdown on his anger. He could not understand why his mother was yelling at him. For the entire seven years that he’d been married to Violet, she’d complained and nagged his head off about how useless his wife was. Same with Bianca. She had refused to marry him or get back with him because of Violet five years ago. He’d never loved Violet. The only woman he’d ever loved in this life was Bianca. But five years ago, Bianca had suddenly disappeared and Elias was plunged into despair. Violet had stayed with him then and helped him back on his feet. Seeing that she was beautiful, young, educated even and had a promising job, he’d married her. After all, he needed a wife to take care of his mother, a woman who would be obedient and submissive to his will, and Violet had been the perfect candidate. She was not enough to satisfy his mom however, who looked down on her orphan status. Elias had not care
Chapter Four Violet was busy for the rest of the morning. She went to the lawyer’s office based on the directions he’d given her. Before he helped her process her inheritance however, she had him draft a divorce agreement. The lawyer, Mr Whitmore, a man in his late forties, was sharp, professional and asked no intrusive questions. He immediately did as Violet asked and soon produced the divorce papers before her. After signing her name at the bottom of it, she had a copy sent to the Carter home. That night, she booked a motel and slept well, dreaming of her good fortune. The system task loomed before her as she washed up the next morning and prepared to go back to the lawyer’s office. She could not wait to fulfill it and explore more of the system’s benefits and upgrades it had promised her. She stepped into Mr Whitmore’s office, looking more radiant and refreshed than she’d been for years since she got married. Mr Whitmore handed her some papers as soon as she sat down
