Chapter Two

Violet stood frozen in the middle of the room, her eyes almost popping out at the text.

Yes! This was just what she needed. Her adoptive father’s fortune!

All at once, the memories flooded her once more.

She remembered this moment in her previous life very well. She’d received the message from her adoptive father’s lawyer while helping her mother-in-law massage.

Evelyn had seen her shocked expression and had snatched the phone right out of her hand. The next instant, she’d screamed in joy that the heavens had favored her and her son.

Bianca had rushed right in and both women had talked about how to spend the money. Thinking she was doing her filial duty, Violet willingly transferred all the money to her husband’s account at his demand.

Those bunch of bastards squandered all the money in a month, and then the apocalypse had set in.

They plunged right back to despair, and the weight of keeping the family floating had falling on Violet’s shoulders once more.

Violet closed her eyes in regret as fury enveloped her at her former foolishness.

But she’d really not had any choice in her past life.

Her husband, Elias, and his family had been too controlling.

She’d met Elias soon after she’d graduated college with a degree in finance. He was her first boyfriend as well as in everything else. Her adoptive parents had raised her to be kind, gentle but brave and loyal to her loved ones.

However, Violet had been so blinded by her love for Elias that she failed to see the red flags on time and allowed herself to be used as a tool for his family.

Shortly after they got married Violet had taken in but she had complications during her childbirth.

The baby didn’t survive and neither did Violet’s womb. She lost the ability to ever bear children again, a fact that will eaten at her mind till the day she died.

Evelyn reminded her of her failure as a woman every day. She called Violet a man, a barren field, and a vicious woman who’d destroyed her son’s chance at letting his name live on.

Violet could not live with the guilt and shame she’d brought upon Elias and his family. So when Elias suggested adopting a child, to carry on his lineage, Violet was touched by his thoughtfulness and swore to serve him, his mother, and his sister, Bianca for life.

She never expected that the little boy, Theo, whom Elias adopted was his actual child. A child he had with his “sister”, Bianca.

Turns out Bianca was his secret lover, and Theo was their illegitimate child. All along, they’d all been living under the same roof, having their love fest while Violet worked around them like a slave.

In her previous life, Elias had revealed this himself, a sickening smile of mockery on his lips, while he and Bianca made out right in front of her, just before she was shredded to pieces.

Violet jerked back from those memories, breathing hard in suppressed rage.

Her fingers gripped her cellphone tightly, and her eyes hardened with determination.

This time, you’re never getting a cent of my money. Elias, you and your family better get ready to pay the piper!

Suddenly, footsteps sounded outside the door to her bedroom, and a second later it flew open as though it had been kicked from the outside.

“Finally, you’re awake! Enjoyed your beauty sleep, huh?!” Evelyn barked at her, her teeth bared viciously as she stood in front of Violet, hands on her hips in indignation, “What do you think this is?! A resort where you get to sleep in whenever you want and enjoy yourself?!”

“Sis,” A shrill, petulant voice uttered and Bianca appeared behind Evelyn, her eyes gleaming with malicious delight, “It’s almost 8am, and you haven’t even started on breakfast. What kind of wife are you?! Do you want me to tell my brother to divorce you?!”

“Theo has been crying all morning! And you don’t even care! All you do is sleep and spend my son’s money!” Evelyn went on, and Violet chuckled darkly.

Both women stopped at the sound. Evelyn looked furious, “You bitch! Are you laughing?!”

“Your son’s money?” Violet uttered, the room freezing at the ice in her tone. She glared at the women before her, "Everything in this house is paid out of my own pocket! The food, clothes, furniture, bills…I worked my ass off for it all and you dare to say it’s your son’s money?!”

Everything she’d said was true.

As soon as she received her salary at her department store job, she quickly transferred everything into the family account where it was quickly depleted, most times on shopping by Evelyn and Bianca.

Then, Violet would still have to work extra jobs to get money for the month’s feeding.

When she spoke to Elias about it, he accused her of always being hung up on money. He worked as an accountant in a rising tech firm but she never saw any of his money.

Judging from Bianca’s extravagant clothes, and her overly expensive trips, Violet now knew where it had all went.

God, how stupid and she been in her previous life to put up with all this pieces of shit?!

Meanwhile, Evelyn and Bianca’s mouth dropped open in shock. They blinked at each other in astonishment.

Never had they heard Violet speak to them that way before. Never had she even looked at them with such anger.

But they quickly got over the shock. Evelyn was furious at what she thought was Violet’s insolence.

“And so what?! My son married you, so therefore you belong to my son and his family!”

“So what if you spend a little money? Would you let your husband’s family starve as a good wife?” Bianca asked, rolling her eyes. She crossed her arms and stared down at Violet, “On that note, I need a new pair of shoes. It’s a new brand, released only yesterday. Give me the money.”

Violet smirked, her body trembling with rage, “In your fucking dreams!”

Bianca’s face contorted into a snarl, “You!…how dare you refuse me?!”

Evelyn stepped forward, pointing a thick finger in Violet’s face, “You insolent bitch! How dare you refuse her?!” She screeched, “So what if you serve us for the rest of your life! You’re just a barren field, a worthless wom…”

Violet grabbed Evelyn’s finger and twisted it, cutting off her insults.

Evelyn had not recovered from the pain when the next second, Violet landed a deafening slap on her ears.

Chapter Seven Elias stood in the middle of his living room, a puzzled frown on his face as he listened to the loud voice ranting on speaker from his cellphone. “Jack, slow down! What did you just say Violet did?!” He asked suddenly, his heart pounding in his ears. “I said, your loser wife bought an eighty million dollar property and completely humiliated me!” Jack sounded furious, "What the hell man?! Can’t you even keep your wife in check…” Elias was no longer listening to him. At the mention of those words, even Bianca and Evelyn had rushed into the room. Bianca had been in a foul mood all day because she had to take care of Theo, who was actually a brat, and Evelyn, who was demanding and insufferable. She wondered how Violet had been doing it for years without complaint, and cursed her for leaving her to this fate. Her relationship with Evelyn had been strained as Evelyn saw she was not as compliant as Violet, and Bianca thought Evelyn was an insufferable, old woman.

Violet’s jaw clenched in anger, but her voice was deathly calm, “Jack Harlow, are you out of your mind?!” Jack laughed. Seeing that he now had an audience, he puffed up his chest and went on, “Violet, you’re just a loser wife who hands all her money to her husband. Where on earth would you get the money to purchase an eighty-million dollar property?!” he went on arrogantly, whipping out his own card, “You’re a poor orphan with no inheritance as well. Do you think you can fool us all?” He placed the card on the table before the sales agent, “Swipe it,” he uttered cockily. The sales agent quickly collected it, “Yes sir.” He

Chapter Three “Thwack!” The force of the slap sent Evelyn crashing to the floor, unable to make a sound in shock. “Argh!” Bianca yelled, “you dare to hit mother?! I’ll teach you a lesson!” She lunged at Violet, but Violet sidestepped her quickly. Another slap landed in Bianca’s cheek and the latter stumbled backwards, her lips bleeding, and eyes wide and disbelieving. “Y…You…You!” She said through gritted teeth, her eyes burning with hatred. Then they widened in fear the next second, “Don’t…Don’t come any closer!” Violet did not heed her wishes. She walked right up to Bianca and grabbed her hair, forcing her neck to snap back with the force. “What are you doing?! You crazy woman! Let her go!” Evelyn screamed from her position on the floor but she did not get up to help Bianca. The aura radiating off Violet was deadly and terrifying.
