The house was cold, and the silence was heavy, but it didn't bother me anymore. I didn't need their presence or their hugs or permission. I was busy turning myself into a weapon. I wasn't just the little sister anymore; I was the architect of my own destiny.

Every night, I’d sit by the window and watch the stars, mapping out the next phase. I had six years left until I was eighteen. Six years to finalize the code, solidify the network, and prepare the trap.

Nysa was out there somewhere, probably being prepped to marry someone rich, someone powerful, someone who could protect her. She thought she was the star of the show. She thought the world was hers for the taking.

I was twenty one years old when I died and six years old when i was reborn. I was twelve now, and I was just getting warmed up. The Vexari name was going to be my stepping stone, and when I was done, they wouldn't even remember why they had ever underestimated me in the first place. I wasn't coming back for their love. I was coming back for everything they held dear. And I’d do it all while making them believe it was their own fault.

The strategy was flawless. The foundation was set. All I had to do was keep playing the role of the quiet, unremarkable sister until the moment was right to drop the hammer. And I was never, ever going to break character.

By the time I hit fourteen, the Vexari estate had become my private fortress. My grandparents were the perfect guardians for my purposes, distant, preoccupied with their social standing, and utterly uninterested in the life of the quiet, polite girl  they’d tucked away in the countryside. They viewed me as a low-maintenance obligation, an investment that didn't demand attention as long as it didn't create a scandal.

They had no idea that while they were busy playing high-stakes politics, I was using their own high-speed, unsecured satellite connection to bypass the world's most sophisticated firewalls.

My routine was mechanical. I woke up at 4:00 AM. While the house was still draped in shadows, I spent two hours in the basement, turning my body into a weapon. My previous life had taught me that when the end comes, it doesn't wait for you to catch your breath.

I hired private, anonymous instructors, the kind who didn't ask questions and took cryptocurrency to train me remotely and in person, masked and under the cover of darkness.

I wasn't just learning self-defense; I was learning how to end a fight before the other person even realized it had begun. My hands were small, but my strikes were precise, calculated, and lethal.

After my training, I logged in.

The digital world was my real home. My bank account, shielded by layers of shell companies and decentralized encryption, was growing into a small fortune. I didn't need their credit card; I left it in the desk drawer, untouched. It was a leash I refused to wear. Every dollar I had was something I’d earned through my own intellect, untraceable and entirely my own.

I kept my network of assets  on a strict diet of information. Leo, my coding prodigy, thought I was just a mentor. He was my firewall. Sarah, my investigative lead, was scrubbing records and connecting dots I’d pointed her toward. They were my eyes and ears in a world I was currently exiled from. Then, the outside world started encroaching.

It was a Tuesday afternoon when the chauffeur pulled up. The Vexaris didn't send cars to the estate unless something big was happening. I stood by my window, watching Nysa step out. She was twenty-four now, at the peak of her social relevance, and she looked like a crown jewel expensive, polished, and breathtakingly cold.

She was being groomed for the Valteri alliance. The Valteris were the apex predators of the billionaire world, and the Vexaris were desperate to tether themselves to that power.

I pulled on a simple, modest dress, the uniform of the forgotten daughter and walked downstairs. Nysa was sitting on the chaise in the parlor, checking her reflection in a compact mirror.

She looked up as I entered, her eyes narrowing slightly. At twenty-four, she carried a heavy, calculated stillness. She had the capacity to make me feel small, a relic of the girl who used to crave her affection.

"Look at you," she said, her voice dripping with a mix of boredom and disdain. "Still playing the mouse, I see you still look like you’re waiting for an apology."

I kept my gaze lowered, my posture perfectly submissive. "I’m just happy to see you, Nysa."i said weakly.

She let out a dry, humorless laugh. "Save it. You don't need to perform for me. You’re a ghost in this house. Try to stay out of the way; we have guests arriving, and I don't need a sullen pre-teen ruining the aesthetic."

I didn't answer. I just stood there, letting her believe she held all the cards. She walked over, brushing past me, her perfume, that sickening, floral scent I remembered from my deathbed, lingering in the air.

"Mother says you're doing well in school," she muttered, not looking back. "How predictable, a little bookworm in the corner. It’s for the best, really. You wouldn't want to embarrass the family by actually having a personality."

I watched her walk away, my heart rate steady. She was so focused on being the star, on securing the Valteri alliance, that she couldn't see the ground beneath her feet was already liquefying.

That night, after the house was silent, I went back to the basement. I tore into the heavy bag, my movements sharp and aggressive. Thwack. Thwack. Thwack. Every strike was a memory of that night on the road. Every movement was a promise to the woman I used to be.

I pulled up the encrypted file on the Valteri heir, Dario, on my monitor. I knew his business patterns, his strategic alliances, and his deep-seated intolerance for liars. Nysa was walking into a trap, and she didn't even know it. She was being sent to charm a man who could spot a fake a mile away.

I wasn't going to warn her and  I wasn't going to stop the engagement. I was going to let her walk right into it, let her build her entire life on the foundation of the lies she’d told about me, and then, when she was standing at the altar of her own making, I was going to pull the pins out of the floor. I was the forgotten daughter. I was the placeholder.

But I was also the one currently learning how to break a man’s wrist in three seconds flat. And the one who owned every secret that would eventually dismantle the Vexari name.

I looked at my reflection in the dark glass of the monitor not the fourteen-year-old girl, but the survivor. The wait was almost over. A few more years until I was eighteen, and then, I was going to be the reason she lost everything.

I didn't call myself the CEO, that identity was buried deep behind proxy servers and shell corporations, safely hidden from the prying eyes of high society and my own family. To them, I was just a cog in the machine. But even as a low-level title, CipherCore carried weight. It was the stealth tech startup that had quietly been eating up market share for the past year, moving with ruthless, terrifying efficiency.Dario, who had been sitting back with a look of supreme indifference, suddenly set his coffee cup down onto the saucer. The sharp clatter made my mother jump.He didn't look at Nysa. His dark, piercing eyes locked onto me, narrowing as if he were trying to dissect me right across the table."CipherCore?" he repeated, his deep voice carrying a sudden, electric edge of interest. "That’s the up-and-coming firm that’s been aggressively swallowing up half the tech market in the tri-state area. Their algorithms are bleeding-edge. How the hell did a fresh graduate land a job there?"

"How old are you?" he asked, his tone shifting into something more direct."Eighteen," I replied, short and cold.He nodded, clearly satisfied. "Why were you away for so long?" he asked."Because I wanted to be."My curtness clearly hit the mark. He looked like a man who spent his life surrounded by women who clung to his arm and fawned over his wealth; he was clearly relieved to find someone who treated him like a peer, or better yet, a target. He moved then, closing the distance between us until I had no choice but to step back. My back hit the cold iron of the railing. He was significantly taller, looming over me, forcing me to tilt my head back to keep my eyes locked on his."What do you think you're doing?" I asked, my voice steady, challenging him to try.He stopped inches from me, his gaze dropping to my lips before snapping back up to my eyes. "I’m looking at something I’m finally interested in," he said, his voice dropping to a low, intimate rasp.He leaned in closer, his wa

One of the men, a venture capitalist with eyes like polished flint, looked me up and down. "Nyxara? never heard the name. Why the long hiatus from the public eye, Carlton?" he asked my father. Before I could even open my mouth, Nysa stepped in, her voice pitched in that sickeningly sweet, condescending tone she’d perfected. "Oh, Nyxara is just a total bookworm. She’s obsessed with her studies. She loves to bury herself in dusty old journals and textbooks, she honestly has no time for social gatherings or real-world business. It’s all just... academic to her."She smirked at the men, a silent signal that I was just a decorative, useless nerd with no business being in the room. The venture capitalist chuckled, a dry, dismissive sound. "I see. That’s a shame, that means she probably has no idea about current business trends or the real potential of the new age of Artificial Intelligence, then? It’s a fast-moving world, miss. You’d be lost in it."Nysa’s eyes lit up, ready to pile on mor

I hung the lavender dress in the center of the closet, lit the light, and made sure the room looked inviting for a thief. Then, I turned on the shower, letting the water run to create the illusion that I was occupied.I slipped out the service door, quiet as a shadow, and headed back to the garage to check on my real dress. Nysa was about to get a front-row seat to the humiliation she thought she was inflicting on me. She’d destroy the lavender gown, she’d feel the rush of her petty, pathetic victory, and she would walk into that gala tonight entirely unaware that her downfall had began with that dress.I stood under the steaming water, but the heat of the water didn't even touch the ice cold burn of revenge that was flowing my veins. My phone was propped up on the vanity, on the screen was the a high-definition feed from the tiny lens I’d hidden in the crown molding of my closet.I watched in real-time as Nysa crept into my room. She looked ridiculous and frantic just like a cornere

My father and my Mother didn't wait for an invite. They walked into the room, their faces were filled with the same cold detachment they’d worn for decades."There’s a gala tonight," my father said, his tone leaving no room for negotiation. "The Valteris will be there, along with more important families, I need you to be presentable. You are a Vexari, after all, and you will start acting like one."He placed a slim, black credit card and a heavy set of keys onto the small vanity. The card clattered against the wood, a sound that in my first life, would have made me feel grateful. It made me feel seen, even loved. But now, it just sounded like an attempt to buy my compliance."These are yours," he said, his eyes hard. "Be ready by eight tonight. No excuses."My mother didn't even bother with a lecture. She just shot me a look of pure, unadulterated disdain, a look that said my mere existence was an inconvenient stain on their evening. She turned on her heel and walked out, leaving the

Nysa looked like she was about to have a stroke. She stepped forward, her hands were shaking and her eyes were wild. "You…you were supposed to be there!" she shrieked."I... I'm sorry," I whispered, I filled my voice with that thick fake, practiced vulnerability. "I…I didn't mean to dodge, I just got so scared when you threw it. I'm sorry I made you miss."The confusion on their faces was better than any revenge I could have planned. They were trying to reconcile the memory of the forgotten daughter, with the girl sitting in front of them, a girl who had managed to stay completely unharmed without drawing any attention to the fact that she’d done it on purpose. My father cleared his throat, his posture shifting from aggressive to guarded. He didn't know what to do with me. He didn't know how to categorize the woman who had just walked through his front door.Nysa looked at me, her eyes darting between my timid expression and the shattered glass on the floor. She looked terrified, tho
