Thunder shook the foundations of the Sterling mansion, rattling the floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the estate's manicured gardens. Lightning slashed across the night sky, casting harsh, jagged shadows across the polished white marble foyer.

In the center of the grand hall stood Ethan, his arms pinned painfully behind his back, cold steel handcuffs biting into his wrists. Rain water dripped from his soaked jacket, forming a dark puddle on the pristine floor.

Two paces in front of him, Victoria Sterling raised a manicured hand, casually flicking a thick legal document at his chest.

The papers hit Ethan’s sternum and scattered across the wet marble like fallen leaves.

"Sign them," Victoria said, her voice dropping to an icy whisper. "Or I let the police take you straight to a maximum-security cell."

Ethan stared at his wife, the woman he had spent three years protecting, elevating, and loving in silence. Her brilliant emerald eyes held no warmth. No regret. Only a chilling, transactional disgust.

Beside her, leaning against the polished mahogany banister, was Julian Sterling. Victoria’s cousin swirled a crystal glass of eighteen-year-old scotch, the ice cubes clinking softly in the heavy silence. A cruel, triumphant smirk danced on his lips.

"Look at him, Vic," Julian drawled, taking a slow sip. "Three years in high society, and he still looks like a stray dog caught in the gutter."

Ethan’s jaw clenched so hard his teeth threatened to shatter. He took a step forward, but the heavy security guard behind him slammed a leather-gloved hand onto his shoulder, forcing him down to his knees.

Ethan’s knees cracked against the hard marble. He didn't blink. His burning eyes remained locked on Victoria.

"Victoria," Ethan’s voice was low, raspy, but laced with a quiet, lethal tremor. "You know I didn't do this. I built the automated trading algorithm from scratch. I gave it to you. I gave it to Sterling Enterprises!"

"You stole it, Ethan!" Victoria barked, her voice suddenly piercing the sound of the howling wind outside. She stepped closer, her expensive heels clicking rhythmically against the stone. "You leveraged your position as my husband to breach our encrypted servers. You copied our top-secret corporate blueprints and tried to sell them to our offshore rivals!"

"That's a lie!" Ethan roared, his chest heaving as he strained against the steel cuffs. "Julian altered the IP access logs! He used my master key while I was at the hospital securing your father's life-saving medication!"

Julian chuckled, setting his scotch glass down on the side table with a sharp, deliberate clink.

"Desperate accusations from a dying man," Julian said, strolling over until his polished leather shoes rested inches from Ethan’s hands. "You really thought a nobody with no background, no family money, and no real lineage could sit at the same table as the Sterlings? You were a temp, Ethan. A convenient warm body to hold a seat while the rest of us consolidated power."

"I saved your company from bankruptcy three years ago!" Ethan glared up at Julian, his fists balled so tightly behind his back his knuckles turned stark white. "Without my algorithms, Sterling Enterprises would have been liquidated by the SEC!"

"And we thank you for your service," Julian laughed, his eyes flashing with dark malice. "Which is why we’re letting you walk away with your life instead of spending thirty years in a federal penitentiary. Be grateful."

Victoria stepped between them, her silk dress rustling. She reached into her coat, pulled out a gold Montblanc pen, and uncapped it with a decisive snap. She crouched down, placing the pen on the wet floor directly in front of Ethan’s face.

"The divorce papers strip you of every asset, every stock option, and every cent you think you earned," Victoria said, her face inches from his. "You leave with nothing. You sign, or Julian presses 'send' on the criminal indictment sitting on his laptop right now."

Ethan looked at the woman he had loved, the woman who had promised to stand by him through everything. The betrayal cut deeper than any blade. It wasn't just his freedom they were stealing; they were erasing three years of his sweat, his genius, and his life.

"Did you ever love me, Victoria?" Ethan asked, his voice barely audible over the roar of the thunder. "Even for a second?"

Victoria didn't flinch. Her expression didn't soften by a fraction of a millimeter.

"Love?" She let out a sharp, bitter laugh that echoed off the high ceilings. "Look at yourself, Ethan. You were a project. A stray I brought home to prove to my father that I could mold anyone into an asset. But a gutter dog always belongs in the gutter. You never belonged in high society. You’re a pathetic, penniless leech."

Before Ethan could speak, Victoria’s hand whipped forward.

Her palm slammed hard across Ethan’s left cheek, cracking through the quiet hall like a pistol shot. The force of the blow snapped his head to the side, a thin line of blood immediately welling at the corner of his lip.

Ethan slowly turned his head back. He didn't wipe the blood. He didn't display pain. His eyes, usually warm and calculated, turned into two dark, bottomless pits of pure, unadulterated ice.

Victoria felt a sudden, inexplicable shiver run down her spine under his gaze, taking an involuntary half-step back.

"Hold him," Julian commanded, his voice losing its playful edge as he sensed the shift in the room's energy. "Sign it for him if you have to, or push his thumb onto the ink pad."

The heavy guard behind Ethan grabbed his slicked-back hair, forcing his head down onto the marble, while the second guard forcefully grabbed his restrained right hand, pressing his thumb onto the blue ink pad on the floor and slamming it onto the signature line of the divorce decree.

"Done," Julian declared, snatching the papers off the floor and holding them up to the light. "The court accepts this as a voluntary relinquishment of all marital assets and intellectual property. Get this trash out of my house."

"Wait," Victoria said coldly.

She walked over to Ethan’s soaked leather coat hanging on the nearby rack. She unzipped it, reaching inside to pull out his leather wallet, his silver wrist-watch, a cheap gift from his late mother, and his phone.

She dropped the watch onto the floor and slammed her heel directly onto the glass face, shattering it into a dozen glowing silver shards.

"You don't take anything that was paid for under my roof," she spat.

The two massive security guards grabbed Ethan by his arms, dragging his knees across the polished stone. They hauled him toward the grand double doors of the mansion.

Ethan didn't scream. He didn't beg. He saved every ounce of his breath, storing the burning rage deep within his chest, letting it harden into an absolute, unwavering vow.

I will make you burn for this, Ethan thought, his gaze locked on Victoria as the doors swung open into the night. Every single one of you.

"Throw him out!" Julian shouted from the foyer, pouring himself another glass of scotch.

The guards dragged Ethan down the wide, sweeping marble stairs of the entrance. Rain immediately battered his body, blinding his vision as the storm raged with apocalyptic fury.

At the bottom of the grand staircase, near the wrought-iron estate gates, the guards shoved Ethan forward with violent force. Ethan tumbled down the final three steps, crashing hard into the thick, black mud of the driveway.

The cold mud covered his clothes, filling his mouth with the taste of dirt and iron.

The guards unlatched his steel handcuffs, tossing them aside, before throwing his wallet and broken phone directly into the puddle next to his face.

"And don't forget your shoes, big guy!" one guard sneered, kicking Ethan’s wet leather loafers into the mud beside him.

The massive, twenty-foot wrought-iron gates groaned as they automatically swung shut, the heavy electronic lock clicking into place with a definitive, booming CLANG.

Ethan lay face-down in the mud for a long, silent moment. The rain pelted his back, soaking through his shirt, washing the blood from his lip down into the dark earth beneath him.

Slowly, painfully, Ethan pushed his hands into the mud. He dragged himself up to his knees. His knuckles scraped against the gravel, bleeding freely, but he felt no pain. The numbness inside him had consumed everything.

He stood up, towering over the muddy puddle, his wet hair plastered against his forehead. He turned around to face the glowing, warm windows of the Sterling mansion, where he could see the faint silhouettes of Victoria and Julian raising their glasses in a toast.

"Victoria..." Ethan whispered, his voice cut through the sound of the falling rain. "Julian... You took my name. You took my work. You took my dignity."

He gripped his fists so tight his fingernails sliced into his palms, mixing his blood with the rainwater running down his wrists.

"I will come back," Ethan roared into the storm, his voice echoing off the stone walls of the estate. "I will come back and buy this entire family, lock, stock, and barrel, just to tear it down brick by brick!"

Thunder cracked directly overhead, illuminating the dark road behind him in a brilliant flash of blue-white light.

High-pitched tires screeched in the distance.

Ethan slowly turned around, squinting through the downpour.

Down the narrow, winding mountain road, two blinding LED headlights cut through the thick fog. A vehicle was approaching at breakneck speed, its powerful engine rumbling like a low, growling beast.

Ethan didn't move. He stood in the center of the muddy lane, ready to let whatever came next hit him head-on.

The vehicle, a sleek, custom matte-black Maybach Exelero with tinted bulletproof windows, swerved sharply, bringing its massive frame to a smooth, silent stop just three inches from Ethan’s knees.

The rain hissed as it struck the glowing hot chrome grille of the luxury car.

For five agonizing seconds, nobody moved. The engine hummed with terrifying, quiet power.

Then, the rear passenger door opened.

A heavy, silver-topped walking cane landed firmly in the mud. The cane was topped with a solid platinum dragon head, its eyes encrusted with rare blood-red rubies.

An elderly man stepped out into the pouring rain. He wore a flawless, bespoke three-piece pinstripe suit, completely unbothered by the storm. His silver hair was combed back with aristocratic precision, and his piercing hazel eyes locked directly onto Ethan’s battered, mud-soaked face.

Behind the old man, three black SUV escorts pulled up, deploying eight heavily armed tactical guards who immediately formed a defensive perimeter around the road.

The old man walked slowly toward Ethan, stopping a foot away. He looked down at the mud covering Ethan’s body, then raised his eyes to meet Ethan’s icy glare.

The elderly man reached into his breast pocket, pulled out a pristine white silk handkerchief, and extended it toward Ethan.

"You've kept us waiting three years, Ethan," the old man said, his deep, commanding voice easily cutting through the thunder. "It’s time to stop playing house with insects."

Ethan stared at the old man, his breath catching in his throat.

The old man extended his hand, exposing a heavy gold signet ring on his pinky finger, engraved with a crown resting atop a roaring dragon crest.

The undisputed seal of Vance Global. The largest, most terrifying multi-trillion-dollar conglomerate in the Western world.

"Welcome home, Young Master Vance," the old man bowed his head deeply. "Your grandfather has passed. The Vance empire is officially yours."

"I just escaped a forced divorce with Victoria Sterling three days ago, Chloe. You think I’m going to bind myself to another corporate tiger?""This isn't a marriage of convenience, Ethan. It's an alliance of survival," Chloe replied smoothly.
