Chapter 1

PART A: CHAPTER 1

My eyes stayed on the painting right in front of me. I did not know when last I blinked but I could feel the moisture collecting in my eyes as they got sore from staring at the picture with such intensity.

I thought about what I was thinking but came up short as I did not know where my thoughts were at. It seemed as if everything had been blurred around me, as if I was taking a focused photo. My hands stayed where they lay on my thigh which rested on my other thigh, having crossed my legs.

My sore ears were covered by my headphones with Billie Eilish blasting loud. I felt like I could relate to her music as it was as dark as I was inside, nothing could fill the void that was deep within me and I had learned to embrace it.

The music stopped which meant it was seven on the dot. I took off my headphones, carefully placing them on the bed before grabbing the crown and carefully placing it on my neatly tied hair. I stood up gracefully, my hands flattening my long designer tight skirt, going just beyond my knees as per regulation of being presentable. With so many years of squeezing myself into these tight fabrics from hell, I still could not get used to them. It felt as if I was suffocating, someone just squeezing until I could not breathe.

Werewolves were animals of the wild, we liked being in nature; running and walking around naked, in all our glory but that was not the life for those in the royal court. There, we were more human than wolves, we had to be rational, use our minds instead of relying on our instincts like most werewolves did. I envied being in a pack. I envied those growing up with friends and family ready to lay their life for the next, living in the most authentic way in the wild. They had free will and mates, I mean, the word mate was not even in my vocabulary. I closed my eyes, willing all my feelings in; a princess never shows emotion for they are a weakness.

I made sure my white shirt which was buttoned to the neck was tucked in properly because being neat was something that was drilled in me from the moment I said "mama" or was it "maid" I could not be sure.

"Your highness." My assistant Maggie bowed; my eyes flickered to her standing just next to the door where she always stood as I drowned myself in some Billie. She wore what she always does; a blue skirt, below the knee of course, a pair of pantyhose with her black granny shoes even though she had barely hit thirty. I envied her really, she seemed to do the work without even a hint of emotion, she followed the rules to the T with no complain or whatsoever. I did not know if it was loyalty or stupidity but I would lean more on the alter. It was sad that if I told her right then to jump off the balcony, she would do just that without hesitation.

"Good day." She proceeded as she stood straight and  I nodded towards her to carry on.

"You have been summoned to the throne room and everything after that has been canceled," She said having me to turn to her.

"When did this happen?" I asked perplexed.

"Yester night your highness, the king's messenger informed me yester night." She spoke.

I nodded as I walked out of the room only to be followed by my three personal guards. I shook my head, the word 'summoned' nearly having me scoff. Was it weird that I had not seen the king in two years? No, it was not.  To King Bad-wolf Furthrone, his sons were a means to carry on his line and for us we were just there for him to make more and more alliances, opening our legs and bearing kids to ensure those alliances. He may have seeded us, but that was that and nothing else. Last time I heard he was in Rockfield holding the front line on the war against the Vampires. It seemed to have gone on from generation to generation, well, mostly on our side because the same man my great-grand father was fighting was still the same man my father was fighting— King Vampir.

The elevator doors closed.

"Morning guards,” I turned to look at them as they said their greetings back.

"Alex, how is Stephie?" I asked, having been notified that his mate had come back with her life in the balance from Rockfield.

"She is still not responding your highness." He replied back, trying to hide away the emotions but I could see how torn up he was about his mate. His head would be rolling on the floor at this moment if anyone in the court had seen him show such emotions. I swallowed the lump in my throat, not knowing the pain he was in, but not wishing it on anyone.

"Come to get your two weeks pass from Maggie when your shift is up. You should be by your mate's side." I said as I looked back ahead with the doors sliding open.

"Thank you, my princess." He replied not being able to hold back his excitement. I nod my head in acknowledgement as we turned and went down the flight of stairs that led us to the throne room.

That part of the court was busy. There were lords and ladies hoping to get some time with the king, there was the help, serving people with refreshments and the guards standing by to make sure everything was in place.

"Your majesty," The men bowed their heads while the ladies bent their knees so low that you would think they would drop to the floor. I nodded my head in acknowledgement, knowing that they would not be able to rise, to stand straight, until I was out of sight so I did just that, making my way to the golden door.  Loads and loads of people gathered outside with no room to even breathe yet they had to find a way to squeeze even tighter because as per the rules, no one was supposed to be as close as a meter towards me.

"The Werewolf Princess Anastasia Nikita Furthrone, Defender of the Northern lands, Commander of the Lethal swords, Lady of Rockland." The man standing at the door, holding a list which contained names of those the king and queen would see this morning while the rest would stand there all day, waiting for their names to be called only to realize as the sun set that they were never on the list, meaning the king does not even want to hear them breathe next to him.

That was royal court for you.

The king himself was a piece of shit, sorry to say, and I didn't even want to get on the queen, that woman scared the shit out of me. I guess it was the fact that she does not talk, it's not like she is mute or anything but she never utters a word out of her mouth and when she does you would not live past the next second. Besides the fierce leaders, the court was filled with snakes that would bite you in the ass. No one was trusted with everyone having an agenda, skimming and lying to crawl up the ladder— snakes everywhere.

As far as I could remember, that was the sixth time I had walked into the throne room and that was a quarter of the times I had seen my parents in all my twenty-one years. I mean, to them I was just another subject, only summoned when something very important was needed of me, beside that, I think they even forget I exist.

I sighed, taking a deep breath and making my way in the large room that I could never get used to.

The throne room was the most expensive room in the whole castle. It was where balls were held. Where meetings were held and where the two leaders of the werewolf species in the realm met their subjects. It was to show the wealth and power to all those that came in, to show that they indeed were mighty. I had never wanted to roll my eyes and scoff as that moment but it was not the place so I held in my breath and willed my anger down, feeling it roll over me.

Head held high, no emotion or whatsoever, I walked further in the room where golden chairs were placed in front of the podium. The golden throne held both royals, so beautiful you would think they were statues. Their beauty was blinding, a way to will you in only for them to snap your neck without even blinking. The power in that room had me down on my knees, my head bent just as everyone in the room.

You could not stand in front of the ruthless leaders, I mean, who was I to stand on my two feet in front of the King and Queen? I literally crawled all the way to the front, passing all the people knelt on each side of the room, fully submitting to their royals. I hated that, my face was burning red with anger, hands balled to fists, hating how the king and queen used their power to make everyone kneel before them. It was crazy, it was tyranny, but who would dare point that out? Who would dare utter the word against his or her ruler? Werewolves liked hierarchy, they loved the fact that they blindly followed a certain person, signing their loyalty to follow till death.

When I could see the steps with my down cast eyes, I stopped moving, the cold and pain from the cold floor going unnoticed by me.

"My king," my body bent down even lower, my forehead touching the ground only to turn to the left and repeat the process.

"My queen," I heard my voice again, wondering how I was able to sound so firm and strong when all I wanted to do was scream and shout my lungs out.

"Tomorrow you are leaving to the Sacred Vampire kingdom and by the end of the following day you shall be bonded to king Vampir."

CHAPTER 2
I knelt on the floor, forehead still on the black tiled floor that smelt of lavender. I could hear my heart thud, feel my shaking hands and even hear as I took in a sharp breath only to exhale.I had heard the emotionless voice, the words reaching my ears yet they did not make sense. I knelt there like I had lost my mind, trying to figure out what had just been said. My body suddenly violently shook, betraying me in my time of need. I felt the tears as they welled up, not being able to hold them back.It could not be right, maybe I heard it wrong, I thought, not believing my ears. It definitely could not be. King Vampir had been at war with the werewolf race for over thousands of years, slaying one werewolf king after the other. Vampires hated the wolves with all their being. I had personally not set eyes on one in my whole life and would have liked it to stay that way."Sorry my king, forgive my incompetent self but I think I did not get what my highness said." I said, knowing that

CHAPTER 3
I looked but not seeing, listened but not hearing, even the loud music that brutalized my ears leaving them sore and red as if a rash would appear.I had cried myself to sleep only to wake up like the robot I was raised to be, taking my shower. I had sat through the fix up only to sit on the bed, waiting for the clock to strike seven. Maggie stood by the door where she always was, her shift starting at half past six to watch them fix me up and make me look like the good princess I was.Today was the day, today was the day I would leave the castle never to look back and somehow some part of me was relieved, some part of me was happy. I would finally leave this wicked place, leaving everything behind. I knew that whatever waited for me was not good, not even in the slightest, but I would face it head on. I was twenty-one years old and it was time for me to get out from my shell and fight for my life. I did not care what they would bring on me but whatever it was, I was going to meet it

CHAPTER 4
I don't think I can do this!My mind was screaming, my heart drumming. The jet had touched down just ten minutes ago and the door was opening. There was nothing I wanted than to tuck my tail and hide under a chair. That would be fun, wouldn't it? My wolf was uncomfortable, we were on new territory and she did not like it one bit. I could feel her wheels turning, well, my wheels turning, my survival instincts kicking in and wanting nothing more than to sprint the hell away from that place. One thing I would tell you is that it was cold, when I say cold, I mean snow cold. The ground was covered in snow, sky covered in dark clouds promising rain as if the weather could sense my dark mood. I sat clenching my chair, wishing that door would not open, leaving me to stay in the jet for the rest of my life.I sighed; it was fucked up."Your highness, the door is opened." The flight attendant said. Her whole body shook and I knew why, she was scared shitless, we were in the land owned and rule

CHAPTER 5
"Your highness, Princess Anastasia Nikita Furthrone, our own future queen! Her—" I jolted up, my eyes moving over the jet as Belinda shook the sleep from her face. "What is going on princess?" she asked perplexed. "I think they are here." I said, standing up, trying to see outside. Car lights, a lot of car lights and a thin crowd collected. I could only see their long shadows, making them seem longer and thinner which had my heart hammer in my chest as they seemed like scary creatures. I took a deep breath, feeling for my crown and finding it in place, my bun was probably a bit messed up but what could I do. I turned to Belinda who was as white as paper, fear making her shake as I took a step. "Can you please open the door, Belinda?" I asked, my confidence back, knowing that I had to do this, knowing that I could not run from this. It was time to stop acting like a teenager and start acting lik

CHAPTER 6
I sat in the car with the women talking away. I did not mind really; my thoughts were elsewhere yet my eyes took in this new environment that was my own personal hell. We had been driving for twenty minutes from the private airfield, going through a large black gate and when I say large, I mean large, like giant large.   The cars drove in, hoping they would not take me to the king in such a manner. I hoped they would at least give me a few minutes to clean up and change.... wait! I did not remember taking out my bags from the plane! I was so focused on all the drama and Belinda had been so scared we had all forgot about my luggage. If that was not being toast, I don't know what was. I blinked and blinked, seeming as if luck had run away from me. What would I wear? Where was I going to get clothes? It was not like I could just go knocking on my next-door neighbour, asking for clothes.   I sighed, thanking the goddess that my phone was tucked

CHAPTER 7
"I hate the fact that I can't see in her future, I mean that has never happened before and I have lived for a thousand years." Another girl that looked nothing more than eighteen said, making me stare at her perplexed. How was that even possible? Witches were mortal and could easily die just like humans.   I had so many questions yet I sat listening. "Why is he not listening to us?" Another girl with blue sparkling eyes shot out, pacing up and down, it being clear that this got on her nerves. "I think that the mystery is something else that has him set on this. If he can't see their future then what were we? It does not matter though, whatever comes, we can take it. We will protect him and the coterie from anything bad that comes. I am sure this wet dog can't do much damage. Did I mention that she tried to use her stupid dog power on me?" The evil witch that I wante

CHAPTER 8
It was ten minutes later, the noise getting louder and louder, the lights being seen just a bit further away. We walked passing all the trees, walking through the tiny path that was covered in snow. My heart could not stop pounding, my chest so sore, sure that if I was human, I would have died from a heart attack at this point. I sighed which was a habit, really scared because I was not even sure what to do. I did not know the vampire traditions and it seemed these women wouldn't care to help out. "Sorry but can I please ask what I would do when we get there, I do not know the traditions, if you may be so kind?" I asked,  my voice harsh as if I had been screaming the whole night. I hoped I was as polite as I thought to be, never wanting to get on their bad side again. I waited but nothing. One turned to stare at me before turning back and they went on with their conversation about Rome or something, how they had burn

CHAPTER 9
The light wind blew around us, the flowers trapped by the wind in the air as it cocooned us and protected us from whatever was on the other side. My hands were on his, seeming so small and fragile yet not wanting to be anywhere else. He stared at me, feeling the eyes holding mine. A moment of silence passed through, my heart making it impossible to hear anything as it drummed like a thousand hooves hitting the ground so violently and tearing the earth into two. I did not know what was happening, did not know if I should say something but kept my mouth shut, trusting that they would let me know if so. My eyes closed, taking a swift intake of the air, his scent sending my insides melting, my knees weak. It was the best smell I had ever smelt, letting me know that I was fucked. The mate bond just made all that he would do to me even worse as the pain of being hurt by a mate was something that is not even whispered.

CHAPTER 10
It was him and I, walking in the wee hours of morning, my hand in his. Feet kissed wet ground, snow falling all around us, my small hand engulfed in his as he took me to I don't know where, but I did not really care. We had so much to talk about, so much to clear out, but in that moment I would take the peace. In that moment I would take the fantasy that I held onto, would take the beating heart and treasure the feeling of being by my mate's side before my world collapsed. The cold went unfelt by me, how could I feel cold when I was next to him, staring at my own feet only to move onto his, watching them move with grace, carrying a mighty man that the heavens saw fit to tie him to me, to my heart. I did not blame them though, did not fault them in any way for their work was perfection at its utmost best. The forest seemed to erupt into an explosion of fireworks as we passed,&nb
