Jessie's POV

The car ride to the courthouse was the longest thirty minutes of my life.

I sat in the back seat, my father was beside me, his hand was holding mine so tightly. Lisa had insisted on coming, sitting on my other side; her presence was a quiet comfort. Gaty had tried to join us too, but my father had firmly told her to stay behind and help coordinate, informing the pack that I was safe.

James drove with a speed that would have terrified me under normal circumstances, moving through traffic like we were in an action movie. But even his skilled driving felt too slow.

"Talk," my father commanded, his Alpha authority made it impossible to refuse. "Where have you been for four days, Jessie? And do not even think about lying to me. I will know."

I had prepared a story during the rush downstairs, merged from half-truths and careful omissions. The hidden library had to remain hidden. The blood magic had to remain secret. Some truths were too dangerous to share, even with my father.
