The journey north was a quiet, heavy silence. As the black town car glided smoothly over the mountain passes, the dull gray buildings of the Silver Paw Pack faded into the distance, replaced by towering pines, ancient stone aqueducts, and the majestic white peaks of the Bloodmoon territory.

I leaned my head against the cool glass window, watching the landscape shift. With every mile we traveled, the crushing weight that had sat on my chest for three years loosened its grip. The reawakened magic coursing through my veins felt like warm sunlight breaking through a long, bitter winter.

Yet, beneath the relief lay a stinging thread of grief. I wasn't mourning Julian,he had rendered himself utterly unworthy of a single tear. I was mourning the girl I had been three years ago. The girl who had believed that love could overcome the brutal realities of power, status, and human greed. I had walked away from my birthright for a man who viewed my sacrifice as nothing more than a convenient convenience.

I would never let myself be that foolish again.

By late afternoon, the vehicle passed through the soaring archways of the Royal Capital. The streets were vibrant, bustling with high born wolves and elite guards who moved with purposeful dignity. Banners bearing the silver crescent moon and thorned rose fluttered from every marble balcony.

As the car crested the final hill, the Royal Bloodmoon Estate came into view a breathtaking fortress of white marble, silver spires, and sprawling glass conservatories perched high above the clouds. It was a place of immense beauty and absolute power. My true home.

The car came to a smooth halt in the central courtyard. Before the driver could even step around, a dozen elite guards in polished silver armor snapped to attention, forming a flawless double line from the vehicle to the grand double doors of the palace.

Commander Vance opened my door, offering his hand once more.

I stepped out onto the pristine white stone, my head held high. My dark hair, now restored to its rich, glossy shine, fell over the shoulders of my tailored black coat.

The air here was crisp, rich with the heavy scent of pine and royal magic.

At the top of the grand marble staircase stood a lone figure.

My father, High King Aurelius von Bloodmoon.

He did not look like the terrifying sovereign who ruled three territories with an iron fist. He wore a simple, dark velvet tunic, his broad shoulders slightly stooped. His amber eyes, the exact shade of my own were fixed on me, glistening with unshed tears.

I walked up the stairs, my boots clicking rhythmically against the stone. With every step, the guards bowed low, their heads dipped in deep reverence to the returned princess.

When I reached the top step, I stopped, suddenly unsure of what to say. I had left his court in the dead of night three years ago, rejecting his warnings, throwing away his legacy for a commoner who had broken my heart.

"Father..." my voice caught slightly in my throat. "I..."

Before I could finish, my father stepped forward and pulled me into a fierce, overwhelming embrace. His large hands held the back of my head, burying my face against his shoulder just as he had done when I was a child.

"My daughter," he murmured, his deep voice thick with emotion. "My sweet, stubborn girl. You've come home."

I closed my eyes, wrapping my arms around his waist. For the first time since I had stepped out into the rain, a soft warmth bloomed in my chest. I didn't have to pretend here. I didn't have to shrink myself to fit into a tiny apartment or hide my strength to soothe a fragile male ego.

"I'm sorry," I whispered into his shoulder. "I should have listened to you."

Father pulled back gently, holding me by my shoulders as his sharp eyes searched my face. He took in the sharp line of my jaw, the cool resolve in my eyes, and the silver aura pulsing beneath my skin.

"You were young, Aurora. You needed to see the world with your own eyes," he said softly, wiping a stray drop of rain from my cheek. "You fell, yes. But look at you now. You stand tall. Your wolf is awakened, and your royal blood is stronger than ever. There is no shame in a queen taking back her crown."

He turned, placing a heavy, supportive arm around my shoulders as he led me through the towering double doors into the warmth of the grand foyer.

“Come," he said, his tone shifting into something more serious. "We have much to discuss . A hot meal is waiting for you but I will not lie to you, Aurora, the realm you returned to is not the same one you left."

I paused, looking at him sideways. "What has happened?"

Father led me into his private study, a grand room lined with thousands of ancient leather bound volumes and a massive tactical map of the continent laid out across a mahogany war table. He poured a glass of warm spiced wine and handed it to me before turning to the map.

"During your absence, the rogue wolf factions along the northern borders have unified," Father explained, pointing to the red markers dotting our borders. "They have been launching coordinated raids, disrupting trade routes, and threatening the stability of our outer packs. Our military is strong, but our eastern flank is vulnerable."

I stepped closer to the table, taking a sip of the sweet wine. My tactical mind, honed through years of royal education, immediately picked up on the lines of supply. "You need a military. alliance. An ironclad force to secure the eastern mountain passes so we can push the rogues back into the wastes."

Father smiled faintly, a gleam of pride in his eyes. "You haven't lost your sharp mind, my girl." His expression sobered quickly. "Yes. We need an alliance. The only force strong enough to lock down the east is the Iron Keep."

My brow furrowed slightly. "The Iron Keep? That is the territory of the Sterling bloodline."

"Correct," Father said quietly, leaning against the edge of the war table. "Alpha Cassian Sterling."

The name sent a subtle chill through the room. Even living in isolation, I had heard of Cassian Sterling. He was a war hero, a ruthless strategist, and the most feared Alpha in the northern territories. Known for his cold demeanor, heavy battle scars, and absolute refusal to participate in high society politics, he commanded an army that had never suffered a single defeat.

"Cassian Sterling has agreed to merge his military forces with ours," Father continued, his eyes meeting mine with a heavy, serious gaze. "On one condition. A political contract marriage between the Sterling and Bloodmoon houses."

I stood still, looking at the silver marker representing the Iron Keep on the map.

Three years ago, the thought of an arranged political marriage would have made me recoil in disgust. But as I stared at the map, the lingering ghosts of Julian's betrayal vanished entirely, replaced by the cool, calculated reality of my royal duty.

I looked up at my father. "He wants a contract bride."

"He wants a stable political alliance," Father corrected gently. "And he requested you specifically, knowing your royal heritage. I will not force you, Aurora. You have just escaped a terrible situation. If you say no, I will find another way."

I set my wine glass down on the wooden table with a firm, decisive sound. I looked at my reflection in the dark glass of the window, the face of a princess who had reclaimed her power.

"No, Father," I said, my voice smooth and unshakeable. "I will do it. Let us meet Alpha Sterling.”

The carriage ride to the Iron Keep took three days.I spent most of it in silence, watching the mountains change from soft green hills to jagged gray rock. Cassian rode beside the carriage on his black warhorse, never once complaining about the cold, never once asking to stop. He was a man built for hardship, and I found myself studying him through the window more than I wanted to admit.By the time we crossed the final ridge, the sun was setting behind a fortress unlike anything I had seen before. The Iron Keep didn't look like a home. It looked like a warning.Massive black stone walls rose straight out of the mountainside, thick enough to survive a siege, cold enough to survive a war. Torches lined the battlements, their flames whipping violently in the wind. There were no flowers here, no soft gardens like the ones back at the Bloodmoon estate. Just steel, stone, and soldiers."It isn't pretty," Cassian said, riding up beside my window as the gates groaned open. "But it's never fa

The morning sun broke over the mountain peaks, flooding the grand solar with sharp, brilliant light. I stood by the arched windows, adjusting the silver cuffs of my high collared royal jacket. The fabric was heavy, tailored to perfection, and structured with thin layers of protective enchanted weave. It was a far cry from the faded cotton sweaters I had worn in Julian’s apartment, and it felt like armor.Today, I was to meet Alpha Cassian Sterling. The grand doors at the far end of the solar swung open with a deep, echoing reverberation. My father stood from his seat at the tea table, his expression shifting into one of stoic, high level diplomacy. Two royal guards stepped inside first, followed by a man whose presence immediately shifted the ambient pressure in the room.Cassian Sterling was imposing in a way that had nothing to do with posturing. He was broad shouldered and tall, wearing a darkened steel chestplate over a dark slate tunic, devoid of any ornate decorations save for t

I didn’t hide my face behind my hands to weep. The cold droplets soaking through my jacket were nothing compared to the absolute, unshakeable stillness that had settled into my marrow. Walking back into the apartment felt like stepping into an old tomb. The stale cake still sat on the dining table, its crooked candle melted into a puddle of hardened white wax. For three years, I had convinced myself that this place was a sanctuary,a humble home built on the foundation of pure, unadulterated love. How easy it had been for him to turn it into a cage. I didn't waste a single second. Moving with silent I walked into the bedroom and opened my wardrobe. I didn't reach for the dresses Julian had picked out for me,the dull, plain fabrics he insisted kept me "modest" and "unassuming." I didn't touch the silver chain he had bought me for our first anniversary, which had tarnished within months. Instead, I pulled out my leather travel satchel. Into it went my carved wooden box containi

I didn't pack everything. To take the clothes Julian had bought me, or the cheap trinkets we had accumulated over three years of domestic pretense, felt like anchoring myself to a corpse. Instead, I stripped off my worn cotton sweater and pulled on a structured black tailored jacket I had hidden in the back of the closet, the only remaining garment from my past life.My fingers lingered over the carved wooden box. Inside lay the Bloodmoon royal seal, an enchanted communicator crystal, and my true identity papers. I tucked the box into a leather satchel, then looked down at my left hand. The silver wedding band was thin, tarnished at the edges, and practically weightless. I slid it off my finger. It made a faint clink sound as I rested it directly on top of Julian’s forgotten tablet, right over the image of him leaning into Lady Sarah’s neck.I could have left then. I could have stepped out into the rain, called my father’s royal guard, and disappeared forever. But a small, stubborn part

The ticking of the antique clock in the corner of the dining room sounded less like the passage of time and more like a steady countdown.I sat perfectly still at the side of the table, my hands folded neatly over my lap. In front of me sat a single, white porcelain plate holding a slice of store bought vanilla cake that had long since gone stale. A small, unlit candle stood crookedly in its center. It was six minutes past midnight. The third anniversary of my marriage to Alpha Julian Vance had officially come and gone, leaving behind nothing but the cold forgotten promises.I let out a quiet breath, watching the faint mist of my warm air dissipate into the chilly room. The heater in our modest, mid tier pack apartment had been broken for three days. As a member of the Silver Paw Pack, Julian had direct access to the maintenance team, but every time I brought it up to him this week, he dismissed me with a wave of his hand."I'm running a territory, Aurora. I don't have time to worry a
