Two hours after their friends left
"We don't have much left to go," Kane says coming to sit next to me on his sofa I stop rubbing my belly and smile. "We need to figure out how where we're going to live." He says placing his hand on my belly. My heart rate kicks up a gear at his comment. I knew this conversation was coming and I thought I would be ready when it happened but I'm not so sure now.
"You could move in with me," I say jokingly and he smiles nodding.
"I could do that but I don't think there'll be enough room for all of us." He says looking at me with a serious look on his face. He's not wrong, I have a three-bedroom, two-bath. Adding him, Junior, and the baby it's going to be a struggle.
"I know," I say not wanting to think about moving out of my house. I won't leave my mother by herself. I love Kane and I would love to raise this baby in the same house with him but I will never choose him over my mother. A man
"Thank you for doing this with me," I say looking at Noni in the passenger side of my car. I bring the car to a stop in front of a large gate. I open the window and reach out to the gate intercom. I press the button and the gate opens immediately."Are you kidding me there was no way I would miss out on this."She says staring straight ahead. Her mouth drops open when the gate opens wider and an incredible view is revealed. I gasp at the beautiful driveway and house beyond."What in the rich people is going on here?" I say in shock. Why did Kane add this house to the home wish list? This has to be expensive as hell."Girl, this is rich rich!" Noni exclaims as the car moves closer to the house."Why didn't you tell me your baby daddy is rich?" She asks and I don't have the answer. I didn't know this was what he meant when he said he was buying me a house. "I didn't know," I say parking the car in one of the em
"You look like you're thinking hard," Olive says when I open my front door. She smiles at me and takes a step into the front door. She walks past me and heads straight to my living room. "You have the look of a man that has a lot of responsibilities." She adds and she sits down. I watch her do this whole process wondering if it's a good idea. The last time Olive was mentioned in my relationship, it almost ended. "I do have a lot on my mind," I say closing the door and head to the living room. I sit in the chair opposite hers and she stares at me. I can tell she has a lot on her mind and she's trying to find the right words. I know why she's here. She found out I'm buying a house for Shalom and me. She knows we're expecting a baby and I guess this is her here to call me out. "Anything you want to talk about?" She asks her eyes filled with so much hurt. I feel guilty for putting that hurt. I wish I could tell her this was supposed to go differently but I don't think it would have gon
"How was your day?" Shalom asks handing me a plate of food. My mouth waters at the smell of the roasted garlic and butter chicken. I smile loving every bit of this. I love the fact that we have a routine now.We spend about eight hours apart working and then at the end of the day we come home to each other. We make a tasty meal and we reconnect. "My day was interesting," I say thinking about my conversation with Olive. It was both heartbreaking and freeing. I knew she would find out about Shalom and me at some point. I knew she would call me out on my hypocrisy. She wanted everything I have with Shalom for us and for years I wasn't willing to give it to her. I completely understand why she hates me right now. I hope she gets to a point where she can forgive me. "Oh? How?" She asks sitting down next to me She balances her plate on her belly and I smile. I love how cute she looks when she does that. I know she doesn't find it cute but it is. She says my baby is forcing her to do this
3 hours later After the day we've had, I'm happy to be in bed with Kane. We can finally relax and let the stress of the day fall off. "Well, that's done," Kane says pressing send on the house offer email. "Now we wait." He says looking over at me. I smile and nod."I have to admit I'm nervous about this one. It's such a beautiful house. I can only guess how many people want to call it home." I say and he touches my arm. "It's ours. I knew it the moment I saw it." He says confidently. "And I know you felt the same way when you saw it." He says and I nod in agreement. "I knew it but I don't want to get my hopes up," I say feeling even more nervous. "I know it would hurt if we don't get it," I say letting him on my fears. I loved that house with my whole heart. I wish we were sleeping in that beautiful main bedroom now. "Baby, there's no way we are not getting the house. We're raising our family in that house." He says getting excited. "I wish I had the same faith as you," I say an
My mother walks into the kitchen holding a box. I stop mid-bite and stare at her. She smiles and places the box in front of me."Nice breakfast." She says as she sits on the chair next to mine. I look at her wondering what she's planning right now. She seems extra happy today."Nice box," I say looking at it curiously."I'm glad you like it because it's yours." She says and I smile peaked. I place my fork down and touch the side of the box."What's in it?" I ask standing up. I touch the lid and stare at her. She has this serene look on her face."Open it." She says and I open the box. I gasp when I see what's in the box. There are little baby clothes neatly folded in the box. My eyes get misty as I touch the top of the clothes."Oh, mommy. This is beautiful" I say and the tears start falling. She didn't tell me she was putting this together."I'm glad you like
This is my last week at work. I am sitting at my desk and looking through my emails. I need to make sure that all of my admin is in order before I go on maternity leave. I need to make sure that I don't have any forgotten client work or any unprocessed invoices. My due date is a week from now and I know it's time to ease into my mommy era. I can't put it off anymore. It's time to prepare myself mentally, emotionally, and physically and I can't do that if I'm still in work mode. I have to admit I'm terrified of the idea of not working for over three months. I haven't taken time off in forever so I don't know how to take time off.I worked hard for the last nine months to make sure I wouldn't have to worry about making money but I'm still nervous. I have enough saved up to make sure I can take time off for more than six months. But I'm used to having money come in. It's going to take a lot of adjustment when the money stops.Of course,
"Oh my. Shalom, she's beautiful." My mother says tears streaming down her. She's holding her granddaughter. I look at her crying too, I can't believe I had a baby five hours ago. My baby girl is here. "She's so quiet too." She says when my daughter coos in her arms.I'm a few feet away from her lying in the hospital bed. Kane is sitting up on a sofa next to my mother and he's watching her too. He has this proud look on his face."She's perfect, she looks just like her mother," Kane says smiling and tears stream down his face too. This is so emotional."I think she looks like you," I say looking lovingly at him. I think she is the spitting image of her father. She has his nose, his eyes and she has his smile. After she was born she was screaming letting anyone who would listen that she was here. I thought she would never calm down but when the nurse placed her in my arms she went silent immediately. I said hi to her and she. Tears came streaming
"We're going home today," I say looking down at my daughter who is sleeping peacefully in my arms. I've been staring at her for hours. I'm in awe of her, she has the most beautiful eyebrows I have ever seen. I softly run my thumb over her left brow and she opens her eyes. We stare at each other for a moment, and I silently say a little prayer. I pray that I become an amazing mother to her. I pray to have the strength to pour all of my love and wisdom into her. I pray that she feels my love and adoration every waking moment of her life. "Your father is such an amazing man. He made sure that we have a beautiful home to go to." I say and she closes her eyes. "Your father is a very good man," I say and she smiles. "I know he's going to be an amazing dad to you. He's already an amazing father to your brother." I say getting emotional. Kane is exceptional. I can't imagine having this moment with any other man. He is caring, thoughtful and beautiful. I marvel at how much care he's shown m
