The air was knocked out of her lungs. Selly’s veins constricted with blood rushing in all directions making her feel drained while she was still alive.

The words he had said to her cut deeper than any other wound she had endured even in the fiercest of battles she had ever partook in.

He didn't even bother to give her a chance to explain. To understand.

Her hands shook as she managed to master the courage to speak with her lips vibrating against each other.

“You must be joking, right?”

Unconsciously drawing a long breath, she held her breath, dreading his answer but none came.

“I mean you haven't even heard the whole…”

“I don't need to listen to the whole story to distinguish facts from bullshit.” Jordan said.

He made sure to maintain his distant and aloof demeanor as he crushed the little hope that was left in her with no regard whatsoever.

“No!”

Selly took a step back, creating space between them and craned her neck as she stared at his back.

Panic gripped her mind as the weight of his words slowly penetrated deep into her psyche.

This was not how she had imagined the scene to play out.

Was this it?

Was this her being rejected?

“This can not be.” She asked, with a shaky voice, “Why?” her last word flowing like an unintended whisper.

Jordan still didn't bother to look at her, feeling forced to talk more than he would personally prefer.

The woman was undoubtedly in denial.

In contrast to his razor sharp tongue, he calmly explained, “As I have no intentions of repeating myself, LISTEN …CAREFULLY.”

“You listen to me.” Interjected Selly, her slightly full lips trembling with uncertainty and confusion.

“I have sacrificed a lot for this to be treated with such disrespect. I…“

“There's only one reason as to why you are still standing in one piece - our past.”

“And for the same reason, I do not see you as a woman. If anything I think of you as a mother and I don't have such thoughts for someone I consider to be a mother.”

“Are you threatening me? “ Asked Selly. She didn't believe that she wasn't just being rejected but threatened as well.

“Suit yourself.” Jordan said while his hands fumbled with the blue suit vest buttons.

Selly’s shoulders drooped and her countenance fell. Her lips parted but before any words could leave her mouth, she heard him say,

“I have found my mate.”

“It's in your best interest to stop tailing me because I won't be repeating myself.”

Selly’s knees finally gave way and she found herself on the cold hard floor with her hand clutching her chest.

“What mate? I am your only ma…” She couldn't finish her sentence.

Something was stuck in her throat.

An unfamiliar void came to fill her once hopeful self and she opened her mouth a couple of times only to end up closing it.

“You're lying.” Her words came out like a whisper and it felt like she was telling herself those words.

“Who is she?”

As soon as those three words left her mouth, it dawned in her.

It was her. How could she have not seen it?

All the signs were there, from the way he swallowed hard in her presence to the way his eyes followed her every move. It was all there and she was just so blinded by hope and confidence in their predestined bond.

Craning her neck from where she sat, her bloodshot eyes trained on him unblinkingly and she said through clenched teeth, “How could you reject me for someone else's…mate?”

Jordan, whose long fingers were busy, halted for a split second before he resumed what he was doing without either confirming or denying it.

At that moment Selly knew that she was right. That little hesitation from his initial nonchalance was the only confirmation she needed.

She has never felt so stupid in her entire existence nor had she ever anticipated the rejection from someone she had sacrificed so much for.

No one had ever disrespected her to such a point.

She wasn't just anyone. She was the veil keeper of Agal. Respected and envied by all, she was the most treasured in her world yet she descended into his world, leaving her people on the verge of war just to be rejected on the poorest reasons one could think of - a fake mate.

That was unacceptable.

She stood up straight and looked at him through the mirror as their eyes locked.

Eerily calm, her voice rarely rising, she said, “It seems like you have made your decision.”

“And I just made mine.”

Before Jordan could fully comprehend the meaning behind her words, he heard sounds of bones snap.

He couldn't help but turn around to witness with shock as the once wolfless woman shifted with ease.

He merely had time to think as within a few seconds, a massive grey wolf stood before him on all fours.

The menacing and murderous intentions weren't concealed behind its beastly form.

Unprepared to witness a shift when it wasn't even the full moon yet, Jordan’s survival instincts kicked in and he took a defensive stance.

When he heard the wolf snarl dangerously at him, all the hair on his body stood on its end.

He was in his human form while Selly was in her wolf…

Wait a minute…

That was no werewolf.

Something was seriously wrong.

All this time, everyone has believed Selly was without a wolf or had an impaired one like him with only partial ability but no. She had never shifted in all the years he had known her. How could this happen?

Aaaw!

Selly’s painful cry echoed through the walls of his home and across the streets as she howled.

She took a step towards him, snarling and baring her enormous fangs at him.

He was sure that she was going to attack when she leaped out of his room through the door and made her way out of his room.

Fuck!

This is not good. He thought as he tailed behind Selly, aiming to immobilise her before things got out of hand than they already were.

Selly’s paws hit the smooth floor with purpose as she made her way outside the house and into the yard, zeroing in on the massive iron gate through her bloodshot eyes.

Halfway through, He caught up to her. He pounced and tackled her, sending them both on the hard paved ground.

He held onto the wolf’s neck and struggled to keep her massive form to no avail as Selly was bigger than normal female werewolves he has ever seen hence stronger.

As they wrestled and tumbled on the ground, her fangs pierced through his arms and sank deeper into his flesh, sending waves of pain throughout his body until he loosened his grip on her.

The Alpha blood in his veins made him suppress the urge to cry out loud and he took the pain as a man.

There was something peculiar about her bite. It wasn't supposed to hurt that much, he thought.

With a horror-stricken face, he watched as she dashed towards the gate, somehow hoping that the strong iron barrier would prevent or at least slow her down.

Clutching his now bleeding arm, he ran to her, ignoring the pain that now spread further away from the wound.

Pausing at the locked gate for a few seconds, seemingly in deep thought, she turned and charged back towards him.

Jordan halted in his tracks, trying to decipher her sudden change of direction.

Sweat trickled down his spine, disappearing somewhere below his waist.

He swallowed hard.

Selly’s touch was sending him to heaven and back. He swore sanity was leaving him by the second. She was relentless. Merciless.“Help me.” She begged between kisses. The words hardly registered in Jordan's mind and he opened his eyes to meet her sultry amber ones.“I will.” He said as his lips clashed against her pink ones, savoring her taste as Selly reciprocated with greed.Parting her lips slightly, Jordan used the opportunity to explore her cavity, moaning at every crevice and contours. He couldn't help, Jordan was a moaner. Not stingy with appreciation when it was due. As much as he would have preferred their first time to be special, with flowers in bed and a candle at the side, he didn't have time for that. His mate needed him.Selly couldn't wait. The ever consuming fire she felt would only be quenched by his touch.Although it sounded overboard, she could actually die from trying to abstain. The pain she had felt was excruciating, her body couldn't withstand it. Prolongin

Jordan didn't waste, quickly he laid her flat on the ground as the heel of his palm sat on top of the other and started compressing her chest in hope to revive her weak pulse.“One, two, three…” He counted a couple more and bent down. Tilting her head, he pinched her nose ready to give her a breath when all of a sudden, Selly coughed. Immediately, he closed his eyes as Selly threw up on him in one big splash. Jordan didn't move his face away as he got frozen in the mess while Selly continued to cough out the liquid in her lungs.Opening his eyes, he wiped his face as a sigh of relief escaped him. Thank Goddess! Immediately, he pulled her into a tight hug. That was a close call, he thought. His hand settled gently and rubbed her back. He was so scared that something major happened to her. For once he tasted the feeling of really losing her.A little late and he could not have found her in the river. A single mistake and he would remain mateless forever. Now he knew just how she m

  • Rejected For Another's Mate   58: Black waters

“You don't seem to know.” She concluded after a prolonged silence.Jordan swallowed hard, “Well, I do know that your name is Selly or Ponds.”It was a half truth. He wasn't proud of himself for it but chose to test the waters first. If she really didn't remember, he would use the time to treat her better and earn a possible forgiveness. “Selly…” She tested her name aloud. “Sounds weird.” She said, “Your name is rather beautiful.”Selly smiled, “You think so.”“Not very common. It suits you perfectly.”“Well,” She said but didn't know how to proceed. The compliment had gotten to her head and she couldn't help but smile even wider.“Why not tell me more about yourself and maybe a little about me.” She changed the topic, too afraid to venture into the world of flattery.Jordan didn't hesitate to narrate their history as they continued walking to the pond. Of course he only told her basic stuff and omitted the parts about them being mates and him having rejected her.“Wow!” Selly was a

  • Rejected For Another's Mate   57: Want me to stay?

So, her parents weren't from that desolate place, he deduced from her silence. She had asked him out whether he also couldn't remember who he was, did that mean that he was supposed to forget his past? And if that were true, what did it mean to both Selly and himself? An old realization hit him again for the umpteenth time, they were both tricked into whatever the trap was, Jordan thought, unaware of the fact that Selly was kidnapped and brought to the forest without her consent while he was simply lured into it out of desperation. She was close to teleporting back to Erichon when those people caused an accident and the van flipped.“So Ponds” Jordan called her by her new name, something he noticed made Selly more receptive and less guarded, "are you the only one who lives in these parts of the forest?” As much as he wanted not to ask, curiosity was eating him.“ Why do you ask?” He hated to admit it but he was jealous. Envious of the other man's access to his woman.“Just curious.”

  • Rejected For Another's Mate   56: Another man's scent

Selly was suspicious of the stranger in her cottage's intentions. First he invited himself, made himself comfortable and now he was talking about food. What was he trying to do by doing all of those favors? Why was he acting to care as if they were familiar? Was all those sweet words necessary, really? Was all those sugary words just so he could stay? “Can you stay alone for a while as I go find something for you?” He asked. Deep down he didn't want to leave her behind. What if he came back to find she had disappeared again? Then there was a matter of her being sick coupled with the fact that since he arrived the day before, he could smell another person on her. The scent he knew he didn't like was all over her and from the way it repulsed him, he knew it might belong to another man. Just the thought of it wanted to drive him insane. Did she meet another person already? Was his replacement found so quickly? Was the man the person she had been staying with? Was he the

  • Rejected For Another's Mate   55: Call me Ponds

Jordan waited for Selly to say what she thought her name was because apparently him using the same name he mentioned during when he was rejecting her, left a bitter taste.“My name?”“Yes.” He waited. In his mind, she was playing games and he was willing to wait until she was ready for the conversation. “Well, I do have a name.” She lied.Technically she had one but she just couldn't remember it. Now there was a possibility that her name was actually Selly but she couldn't just trust a stranger. The gears in her mind shifted, finding a name she could come up with but even that ended up being hard, picking a name at random.“Selly,” He bit his lower lip, not knowing what to say.“Ponds.” She blurted the first thing that came to mind.Jordan's pupil widened ever so slightly, what kind of name was that?“My parents named me Ponds.” Another lie. Keepers of the supernatural realm were never born. They never had a history or something called a lineage. They were chosen by the Goddess her
