Rejected, Returned, Revealed

Zyra's pov…The ache remained, just like the mark that still lingered but never completely faded. What was I thinking about being mates with an Alpha when I was nothing but a lowly maid?I had not run into Roland since the rejection. It was for the best I thought to myself, seeing him will only make the pain worse.I scrubbed the floors as I overheard some Omegas bicker about the Luna initiation ceremony. At least they were even invited, I wasn't even allowed to watch.“Marcelline has demanded you prepare her special tea and bring it to her.” Melissa the new Luna spat at me.I rolled my eyes as I continued scrubbing, “You could at least say it politely.”The Omegas stopped their discussion to eavesdrop on our conversation that was quickly becoming heated.“I have no business being polite to a mere human, you should at least be grateful you are allowed to work in the palace.”She wasn’t wrong if not for my late mother and her relationship with Marcelline. I would have been out of the p

Roland’s POV…I woke up in a pool of my own sweat, shivering from the cold.I had dreamt of that night five years ago every single day.It always ended the same way with my brutal rejection of her.My first mate and the only woman I had ever loved. But I knew it was for the best, I had to reject her for her own good.I got dressed without any hope of sleeping again.“It’s quite early Roland, why don’t you come back to bed,” Melissa called out from behind me.“Go back to sleep. I have a lot of work back at the office.”“It’s 2am.” I didn’t reply to her, I opened the door and left.Apart from my usual nightmares keeping me awake the recent issues in the pack had disturbed my nights as well. “Alpha, we had over a hundred new cases today at the infirmary.” My beta spoke over the video call.I was pretty sure he was as worked up as I was, if the worry lines on his forehead were any indication. “At this rate, the pack will be down 20% of its total population in a month.”That's bad.“We

Roland's POV…Ronan sat with his legs just swinging above the ground, he wasn't crying but his eyes still held sadness in them as they were puffy.Whatever was happening, this child didn't deserve to go through it.My chest felt tight and my throat dry as I looked at him. “What flavor do you prefer?” I asked, still bending low to meet his height. There was something about this child that set my wolf off, he was so restless around him.The last time my wolf was this restless was the night I rejected Zyra.My own wolf didn’t speak to me since that night, he went silent but I knew he was still there. But around Ronan, my wolf whimpered. It was the most sound he had made in years.“Mint chocolate chip ice cream.” He beamed at me. I raised my eyebrows in surprise.“That’s my favorite flavour.”“Really?” “Yes,” I replied. Most people thought it was weird that I loved mint chocolate ice cream.I cleared my throat, “That's a rare flavor for a child.”“I know, mummy says it all the time, s

Roland's POV…“I want a DNA test on Roland.”“That can be arranged,” Christopher replied lazily.“We would need to figure out a way to get his sample though.”“Actually there would be no need for that.”“Why?” I eyed him curiously."... what did you do?” I added when he didn’t respond immediately. He had one of those mischievous smirks playing on his lips.He waved his hands in the air, “Calm down, it's nothing drastic.” “What. Did. You. Do” I repeated.“I just kept the spoon he used today while taking ice cream.”“You've had your suspicions since then?”“I suspected from the moment I saw him in Zyra’s arms.”My mind trailed back to the way Zyra clutched tightly to him, her protectiveness was palpable.“I knew you were going to ask for a paternity test sooner or later, so I saved you the stress.”I was pissed he had done that without letting me know beforehand, but no doubt he was a genius for it.“Run it by the pack sages.”He nodded, “I would do that immediately.”"Good.”“But Rola

Zyra’s POV…“What the fuck are you doing here?” He yelled towering over me.I flinched a bit, then released myself from his grip creating as much distance between us as the room could allow.I took a deep breath, “I didn’t need your rescue, I had things under control.”“You didn’t answer my question.” “I don’t see how my life is your business.” He scoffed and moved closer, ”Do you even have the slightest idea of what goes on at events like this?”My breath hitched.“What goes on at events like this?”His eyes dipped to my cleavage causing the color of his eyes to flash from gray to black. It was so fast that if I wasn’t staring at him I would have missed it.I dragged my shawl higher. The air felt heavy and thick. Was the air conditioning not working? I looked around and saw it was blasting at full speed so why did the room feel hot as hell?“You don’t want to know, go home.” He opened the door for me to leave.“I have business to handle so I will stay.” I retreated further into the
