Ace

It’s been ten years. Ten fucking torturous years of agonizing wait and then last night… The Moon Goddess decided to bless me with a mate. Fucking finally. My happiness could not be measured by any weight scale in the whole universe. I waited for her and yearned for her when I didn’t even know she existed or what she looked like.

“What do you think is wrong with her? It’s been hours already, Steph.” I told the doctor examining her as I paced the room in panic. She hasn’t opened her eyes since I got her from the forest last night. I held her in my arms all the way back to Mistwood when I didn’t even know her name. I could only imagine how many more years I’d have to wait for another mate if I were late to save her from those stupid rogues.

“She will,” Stephanie replied curtly, checking her pulse, and her eyes, then her mouth. Was something seriously wrong with her? “Should I get another doctor, Steph?” Stephanie sighed, taking off her eyeglasses and tucking them in her coat. “I’m here, aren't I? And will you please stop pacing around and sit down?”

“I can’t,” I shook my head, rubbing my hands together. “Ace,” she uttered, gritting her teeth. “Okay,” I pulled a chair and sat beside my mate. Steph got up, “She is fine. Nothing is wrong with her. Well, apart from that.” She pointed at her bruised soles. I wondered how long she had been running in the forest and who she was running from. Whoever it was, I only had one wish: to kill him

“She would regain her consciousness anytime soon. I’ll ask them to prepare her something to eat for when she wakes up.” She pressed my shoulder. “Thank you, Steph.” I smiled at her. Stephanie was my first beta’s wife. The best doctor we have in Mistwood. 

“Anytime. But right now, you need a hot bath. You stink, Alpha. Unless you want her to reject you for that.” She said, narrowing her eyes.

My panicking eyes flew to the unconscious woman on the bed. Her black silk hair was sprawled on the pillow like a curtain. She looked peaceful and beautiful. “Take care of her for me. I’ll be back in a minute.” 

Stephanie chuckled, “Take your time, Ace.” I quickly rushed out of the room. I hadn’t left since we returned. That's why I couldn’t get a chance to clean myself. I only had my maids clean her up. The last thing I wanted was to get rejected by her for anything in particular. I waited for her long enough to be that stupid. I wanted to be presentable when she woke up. 

I returned to the room right after a minute. I found her sitting on the bed, looking outside the window. Her long hair covered her whole side, so I couldn’t get to see her face. She looked like the epitome of peace in that position. I knocked on the door to get her attention.

“Hi,” I uttered while walking inside because I didn’t know what else to say to her. “Hi,” she said back, watching me warily. I sit on the chair beside her bed. “How do you feel?” She lowered her gaze to her feet. “Good. Thank you for saving me.” I smiled at her. Even her voice was beautiful to my ears. “No need to thank me, sweetheart,” I said, and she lifted her head to stare at me in disbelief. 

“What?’ I asked. She shook her head, “Nothing,” and lowered her gaze again, her cheeks reddening. I noticed she had freckles on her cheeks. She looked so fucking adorable with them. “What is your name?” I’ve been dying to know that since I met her. “Minsi. Um… you?” Her green eyes blinked. I swear they were the brightest forest green eyes I’d ever seen. “I’m Ace. I like your name, Minsi.” I uttered.

I watched as her eyes grew in shock, “The—the Alpha of Mistwood pack?” I nodded, “That would be me.” She blinked hard. I noticed she liked blinking so much. A smile made its way to my lips, “Are you not hungry, Minsi?” I asked, trying my best not to jump and kiss her heart-shaped lips. I had to tame my wolf not to overreact since we held her for the first time. We were both so sinfully excited to have her in our lives.

She touched her tummy and then faced me, “I could eat a whole cow.” I couldn’t help but laugh at her words. Just when I thought she was amazing, she had to go and be funny too. So fucking amazing. “Come on, let’s go get your cow then.” I got up and stretched my hand out for her to take. 

She looked at my hand for a second as if unsure, and then moved from the bed and took it. I laced our fingers the second she did. Sparks ignited my body. God, that felt so good. We only took a few steps when she suddenly groaned. Her face twisted in pain as she looked down at her feet. Goodness! How could I forget that her soles were bruised?

Without a word, I placed my hand around her waist and picked her up, bridal style. She gasped in shock as she looked at me while her hands wrapped around my neck because that was where they were made to be. “What—You don’t have—Please put me down.” She looked so worried that it made me frown deeply. 

“Why?”

“I—I don’t want to tire you.” Her body was stiff. Was I making her uncomfortable?

“And what made you think you might?”

“Because…” her voice became smaller, almost like a whisper, “I’m too heavy.”

“Who said that to you?”

“It’s obvious,” She looked down at herself, and pain flashed in her eyes. I wished to get rid of it. 

“Minsi,”

“Hm?”

“You are not heavy. Do you know how many pounds I weigh? You will never be too heavy for me, sweetheart. Okay?” I rubbed her cheek. They were too soft not to. I wished I could bite them or rather smooch them.

She nodded, blinking her tears away. “I’m famished. Shall we go now?” I asked her. “Yeah.” She replied, finally relaxing in my arms.
