The Selection Night

Ceremonial shackles burned my skin as I waited in line.it was a pack tradition.every unmated female over eighteen years old stood in the Alpha’s circle tonight.our wrist were bound with ceremonial silver,waiting to be chosen.Or rejected.

My name is jennie hunter.and In one second,my life would begin or end.

“Next”pack elder Richard called.his voice was sharp,echoing through Darkthorn hill.more than five hundred wolves we’re watching.Ready to judge and laugh at our humiliation.

I stepped forward,my legs were shaking.The silver chains burned.Not from any magic spell but from shame.Because just across the dais stood them.

The Alpha twins.Damon and Darian Darkthorn.

Damon had ice blue eyes,his hair was black.his jaw was carved from winter.he was cruel.cold.He was the one who commanded armies,He won wars.he was the real definition of power.

Darian had the same face but his eyes where warmer.He was a fraction of softer.he once saved me from male stray wolves when were were just pups.But he doesn’t seem to remember that.But I will always do.

Both six foot tall.They both wore black suits tonight instead of their usual combat suits.But most importantly,they both wore their twin Alpha crowns.Their power.

The Alpha twins were both staring straight right through me.I averted my eyes.How I could I possibly have the courage to look them in the eyes when I was just a low life cleaner?

The bond pulsed once.I was weak.A pathetic loser.A mating bond that never snapped into place because I was nothing.i was a nobody.Omega born,an alcoholic father and my mother died when I was little. I scrubbed floors and cleaned dishes in the pack house for survival.

“Jennie Hunter” pack Elder Richard read.”Omega tier,21 years old.has no properties or bloodline.Daughter of an alcoholic father.Her mother passed away when she was little.”

The crowed erupted in laughter but I kept my head down. I couldn’t dare look them in the eyes or I’d break.always been good at that.Avoiding eye contact saved me from a lot of things. It made me invisible not until one unlucky night.

Damon spoke first.His voice cold enough to freeze hell.”step into the light circle.Omega.”

I obeyed.The moonstone floor lit up immediately under my bare feet.it exposed my every insecure.from my loose dress to the scar on my cheek from last week’s rogue attack.My hands were red from the bleach.And my hair,well I did a very good job of making it look I was a mad woman.

Darian’s flared his nostrils,he scented me.for a heartbeat, I saw his expression softened.hope,stupid desperate hope leapt in my heart.

Then Damon spoke,scoffing.”The pack needs a Luna strong enough to lead.Who can bleed silver and not faint.”he’s gaze dropped over me.he looked at me like I was carrying a contagious disease.like I was garbage.”but you….you’d break even before the first war starts.”His words cut deeper than a sharp knife but what he said next killed me.

“I Alpha Damon Darkthorn ,reject you jennie Hunter,as my mate and Luna.”

The crowed gasped,not from shock but from entertainment.they rejoiced at my sorrow.i was everyone’s mocking stock.I knew this would happen but I never expected it to be so humiliating.

Darian didn’t even look at me.he could only stare at a spot right above my head.”I Alpha Darian Darkthorn .reject you jennie Hunter,as my mate and Luna.”

Two rejections from the twins.the bond didn’t just snap,it shattered me completely.i felt pain ripple through my chest like my ribs were on fire. I thought after everything that happened that night,at least one of them would choose me.

I bit my lower lip hard till I tasted my own blood,my knees hit the ground.the silver chains clattered.Mates where supposed to feel pain after being rejected but not like this.This wasn’t anywhere near heartbreak.This was my wolf dying.

“So dramatic “that silky voice. It belonged to no one but Alice Hales.A Beta’s daughter.she was so perfect.her blonde hair was long and shiny.perfect.she had perfect curves and a perfect bloodline.”But show’s over little Omega,now run back to the kitchen where you belong.”

Damon didn’t look at me again.He took Alice’s hand”I Alpha Damon Darkthorn .choose Alice Hales as my mate and Luna of Darkthorn pack”Darian did the same and the hall exploded in cheers and whistles.Alice smirked at me over her shoulder as the twin Alphas led her to the throne.

I should run.should have crawled away and just died somewhere quietly but instead,my stomach chose that very moment to betray and humiliate me in front of everyone.

I vomited on the perfect moonstone floor.Bill and blood and two months of denial.

The hall went silent.so silent I could hear my own heartbeat.Damon’s head snapped towards me,his brother’s eyes turned wolf gold.both sniffed,nostrils flaring at the same time.

They scented it.

Not any regular sickness nor fear but,morning sickness.

I unconsciously pressed my hand on my belly.no,no this can’t be it.it can’t be happening right now.I’m just late.maybe stress did that.yes,over working must cause this sickness,not..

The pieces crashed together.three months ago,the heat,the night.The pack law had forced all unmated wolves into the woods.The one night the Alpha twins lost their control.The one night they cornered me against the sacred Oak tree.Both whispering “mate”.

I told myself that it was nothing but a dream,once I found myself laying alone in the woods.Naked.

That it was a trauma response.That powerful Alphas didn’t actually take me against a tree,but my body remembered and now it was telling not just me but everyone president.

A healer rushed forward to help me but Damon beat her to it.he grabbed my chin,forcing me to look at him.His eyes weren’t cold anymore.they were keen,surprised even.

“You’re pregnant.”He knew.Alphas always knew.

Darian was beside him in a split second.his hand hovering over my stomach but he didn’t dare touch me yet,like he was afraid I might burn him.

“Whose?”he whispered.

The crowed was already whispering to each other.Alice’s perfect face twisted in seconds.

I yanked my face away from him,blood dripping from my cut lip.”I’m not pregnant.I’m just sick”I lied even though I already knew the consequences.

Damon gripped my hair,yanking my head back.”lying to the Alpha costs you a life.”his voice was soft but carried venom.”Last chance.who’s the father?”

I looked at both of them.they were my mates,my rejectors and the fathers of my pups.so I did the only thing I could to survive.”yours”i snarled then looked at Darian “and yours too “

Everyone gasped,the hall turning into chaos.Alice screamed.pack elder Richard shouted for guards.it was clear now.

The pack law was clear.Unmated females pregnant with Alpha heirs were killed after giving birth to avoid claim wars.

Damon yanked me against a wall,choking my throat but not hard enough to kill me yet.”you slept with both of us?”he growled against my ear.Darian yanked his brother away from me.saving me again “she’s lying.”he said”she has to be.”but his expression deceived him.

I was soon dragged to my feet.silver chains were now replaced with real heavy ones.I was locked in a dungeon until the pups are confirmed if they were Alphas blood.they announced that I would die after birth.pack law.

As I was being locked away,I caught sight of Alice.She didn’t look scared,she rather had a smile on her face.As the dungeon door slammed shut,I was left alone in the dark.i pressed my shaking hands to my belly.i didn’t need a healer to confirm whether I was pregnant or not,whether the pups belonged to the Alphas or not.i didn’t need nine months.Because earlier this morning I’d finally done what I’d been scared to do for twelve weeks. I took the test.

Two pink lines.

But I was too afraid to believe the results were accurate.

Yes I am pregnant,with twins.
