"Crystal!! Where did you put it! Where did you put my Harry style shirt"I yell and stormed across my room into my younger sister's.

She has been getting on my nerves lately. Ever since I told her I didn't want a grand party for my 19th year celebration.

Just go with our traditional celebration and find my mate.

I slammed the door open to reveal an empty room.

Where is that little piece of shit!

"Serene, come downstairs right now" my mom voice yells from downstairs and I groan before leaving my sister's room.

She is so lucky I didn't trash it. I am going to a concert and I really need to wear that freaking shirt.

And before you can ask, yes I am crazy about Harry styles and I am his biggest number one fan. Also, yes we are allowed to mingle with humans as long as we mask our scent.

Our biggest enemies are the vampires. They have been vandalizing our pack borders lately. The witches are cooler than them.

Our Alpha has been trying to protect us as much as possible.

Speaking of alpha, he is the first person I see when I descended the last stairs.

Sitting down in all glory, his man spreading and strong thighs.

He is the most handsome man alive, strong, chiseled jawline, pointed firm nose, prettiest and brightest green eyes ever. His pink beautiful full lips that can do unimaginable things to a girl, is now set into a thin line.

He is frowning as usual, never smiling, always having a blank face.

Beside him was his beta, Darius, also having a blank face but a little bit relaxed.

"Serene, come sit down and stop standing there like a moron. And what are you wearing?" my dearest brother, Kaden says.

I blush when I realize I was dressed like a homeless person, baggy top and loose sweat pants.

My face even turned redder when I realized everyone was looking at me now. Crystal was smirking.

"Sorry,"I squeaked and secretly gave my brother the middle finger before taking my seat beside my dad.

He was the former beta of the pack to Alpha Eli, before he retired and his son Alpha Zander took control.

"So as I was saying, Serene will meet you on the night of her birthday, that is this coming Saturday, before mingling with the other men" dad says.

Yeah, I forgot about that. Alpha Zander hasn't found his mate yet since he turned 18, seven years ago. So every year, all the female unmated wolves meet him in person on the night of their birthday before meeting anyone else.

Thinking about that brings butterflies to my stomach. I have been in love with him ever since I reached puberty but not once as he looked my way.

Rumor has it that he has been secretly seeing my younger sister. But I don't believe it, he wouldn't be with someone underage.

Although it isn't a crime here, people find their mates as early as 16. The consent age here is 17. No judging but no, he wouldn't do that.

And my sister is 18,well she turned 18 a week ago.

"That would be perfect. I'll be taking my leave now. We need to check the borders again,"he says, his baritone voice ringing across the room and my body.

"Stop staring at him like that, you'll drool" my sister whispers in my ears.

"Fuck off Crystal! I am already mad at you for stealing my shirt"

Dad and the Alpha talk for a while before he leaves but not before glancing behind him and his eyes fall on mine, but it quickly leaves as it comes  and it moves to my sister's.

His eyes soften and he smiles a little at her.

No.

I am just imagining it.

.

"So how is the preparation for the birthday going" my best friend, Tasha asks.

"You know crystal has everything covered. She is doing all the planning, I just need to be there for the rituals" I shrug and close my locker.

We began to walk down the hall,

"Sometimes I pity you my friend, you have no backbone, you need to stand up for yourself. This is your birthday, not hers,"she says

"I don't really care, I just want to find my mate and go to college like everyone else" I tell her.

"You wouldn't love that when you have a baby" she says

Tasha is two years behind in school. She found her mate before her final year of high school and fell pregnant immediately, she had to drop out and take care of the children and then return two years later.

"But you are okay. Faye has been helping you out" I say referring to her husband.

"Yeah, he is a goddess sent. " She says and just then the bell rings.

"I'll see you at basketball practice,"she says and we parted ways into our various classes.

Oh shit, I left my phone in my car.

I groaned and walked back out of the car.

I retrieved my phone and was about to leave when a rattle from the forest startled me.

"Who is there?" I asked with confidence I didn't have.

I walked closer to ready to call for help if it was dangerous, by that I mean Cunning vampires.

I entered the shallow forest and the noise seems to be moving forward.

I need to alert my brother.

I immediately shifted into my gray wolf. I haven't been able to talk to her since I shifted when I was 16. Dad said we'll hear them when we turn 19.

Bones cracked and finally I was in my wolf form. Fuck this hurt! 2 years and I still can't handle the pain.

I sprint toward the moving sound, but it disappears after a few minutes.

I stopped in my tracks realizing I just fucked up.

Oh shit!

What is wrong with me! Why didn't I just call my brother.

I tried to get in touch with him, but nothing came.

Oh freaking shit!

I am out of our borders.

My limbs begin to shake when I hear rattling again.

This is how it ends Serene. You didn't get to kiss Alpha Zander, and you are about to die.

I am sorry mom and dad. Please forgive me.

"Who are you and what do you want in my territory!" a strong yet very familiar voice says.

I turned around so fast I thought I teleported.

There he was, standing there was Alpha Zander, in nothing but sweat pants, that was hanging low on his waist.

His v-line disappears into the pants. He looks so yummy right with his glistening body.

"Shift!" he commands, and I did without a thought.

Maybe I should have thought about it because now I am naked In front of him.

"Oh fuck!" he curses under his breath and turns around.

"What are you doing here! Are you trying to get yourself killed!" he yells before throwing me a shirt.

I put it on immediately and he faces me again. His face raging in anger

"I thought...." he cut me off

"Get out of here. I don't want you near this ground anymore! Do you understand!" he says in his alpha tone making me kneel.

"Yes alpha!" I mutter before walking away.

Asshole.

  • Rejected Me Once, Never Fool Me Twice   Chapter 35

Zander's POV The moon was high, silver light spilling across the forest like a blessing I didn’t feel worthy to claim tonight. From my office window, I could see the treeline, the place where the wards shimmered faintly against the dark. We’d kept the pack safe for decades—through wars, through famine, through the gods’ trials themselves. But I wasn’t sure we were ready for this.My daughter’s mate. Tyron.A man with blood on his hands, a history written in violence, and a wolf that didn’t know the meaning of submission. A man I should have had executed the moment they dragged him into my territory in chains. And yet… the bond had chosen him for Winter.I hated the mate bond sometimes. It could be the gods’ gift or their cruelest joke, depending on the day. And this? This felt like a test I never asked for.I leaned back in my chair, rubbing a hand over my face. The wolf in me snarled every time Tyron’s name passed through my thoughts. Not because I feared him—but because I feared wh

  • Rejected Me Once, Never Fool Me Twice   Chapter 34

Tyron's They moved me to a different cell three days ago.Bigger. Cleaner. A cot that didn’t smell like damp rot. Even a shower, though the water pressure was about as forgiving as a weak rainstorm. Clothes, too—dark sweats and a plain shirt. It was a calculated kindness, which meant it was a warning in disguise. People like Zander didn’t do favors without sharpening the knife first.I wasn’t stupid. They weren’t giving me comfort out of pity. They were softening me up for something.Still, I took every scrap they offered. Ate every meal. Let the guards see me quiet, cooperative. They needed to believe the fight was bleeding out of me.But I didn’t lose the fight. I banked it.And now, sitting on the cot with my elbows on my knees, I felt the thin thread of the mate bond tug—hard. My head snapped up. The air changed, electric and sharp. She was close. The sound of footsteps on stone grew louder. A second later, she appeared. Winter. Her hair caught the dim light like it was spun o

  • Rejected Me Once, Never Fool Me Twice   Chapter 33

Winter The morning light spilling through my bedroom curtains felt wrong.Too bright. Too warm. My wolf paced in my head like a caged predator, claws raking against bone. She’d been restless all night, even after I’d finally drifted into an uneasy sleep. Every time my mind dipped toward dreams, she shoved me awake, snarling his name.Tyron.I sat up slowly, pressing my palms to my eyes until stars danced in the darkness. My chest ached—not just from the bond’s pull, but from the memory of his face last night. Even as an astral projection, I’d seen the shadows in his eyes. The weariness. And yet, the way he’d looked at me… like I was the only thing tethering him to this world.I couldn’t stay away anymore.By the time I found Dad, he was in his office, flipping through reports with that unreadable mask he wore so well. Aria was perched on the arm of a chair across from him, idly braiding her hair, clearly waiting for something. The second Dad saw me in the doorway, his jaw tightened.

  • Rejected Me Once, Never Fool Me Twice   Chapter 32

The clank of the cell door echoed different this time. Not final. Not cruel. Almost… indifferent.I didn’t lift my head when the footsteps stopped in front of me. I’d learned not to. They came with kicks, or questions, or trays I couldn’t reach. But this time, there was no boot. No barked demand. Just the soft clatter of keys, and a low grunt.“Stand, rogue.”I opened one eye. A young guard, twitchy, clearly not thrilled to be here, was fumbling with the chain at my ankle. He wouldn’t look me in the eye.“We’re moving you,” he muttered. “Orders from the Alpha.”I snorted. “Mercy or strategy?”He didn’t answer. But when the chain was loosened and I stood, I realized my legs didn’t buckle the way I expected. Weak, yes. But not broken. Not today. They walked me—flanked, still shackled—down a long corridor that didn’t stink of damp and blood. The air grew less sour. I could smell pine somewhere, and firewood. Even herbs. And something else, too faint to name but too specific to ignore.Ma

  • Rejected Me Once, Never Fool Me Twice   Chapter 31

Late afternoon light spilled across the wooden floors like melting gold. I stood at the threshold of my bedroom door for the first time in a week. The silence beyond it was loud. Almost judgmental. My fingers gripped the doorknob, my knuckles pale from the pressure, and for a moment I considered slamming it shut again. Let them think I was still angry enough to stay caged. But that would be easy. And I wasn’t about to give them the satisfaction.I stepped out.The warm scent of herbs, pinewood, and baked something greeted me like a memory I hadn’t asked for. My legs felt heavier than they should’ve. I didn’t remember feeling this drained when I was locked up—but freedom had its own weight, I guess. At the bottom of the stairs, Mom stood waiting, arms crossed but her posture… softer than usual. She didn’t smile. She didn’t need to. It was all in her eyes. That quiet storm of someone who fought for you behind closed doors.“Don’t push it today,” she said, her voice barely a murmur. “Pic

  • Rejected Me Once, Never Fool Me Twice   Chapter 30

Tyron's POV The sting’s still there. Not sharp anymore—more like a ghost of pain gnawing behind my ribs, quiet, patient, waiting to remind me it’s not finished with me yet.Wolfsbane never really leaves you. Not all at once. It lingers in the blood, curls into the bone. You can feel it even when you can’t feel anything else. But for the first time in days—weeks, maybe—I’m not suffocating in it.I lie still on the cold dungeon floor, chains slack around my wrists. My head’s heavy against the stone. But something’s shifted. Not in my body. In my mind. It’s clearer now.Like someone’s scrubbed the grime off the inside of my skull. Like I can finally think without dragging my brain through fog and fire. Her magic did that.Winter.She knelt beside me yesterday. Whispered words like incantations, soft and sharp, and placed her glowing hand over the wound in my side. She pulled the wolfsbane out like it offended her.And when she looked at me…Gods. When she looked at me, I almost forgot w
