Chapter 4

“Samantha is waiting in the lobby again.”

Mirco stopped what he was doing as his secretary and also his best friend, Travis entered his office.

They knew each other ever since they were in high school. Travis was a scholar from their school. Everyone wanted to be friends with Mirco that time except for Travis. He’s avoiding him. One day, he confronted him. Travis helped him realize that his circle of friends was just using him because of his family wealth and connection.Travis told him he doesn’t want to be one of those people who’s treating Mirco like a host, while they are getting every benefit they could have. Since that day, he pretended that they were bankrupt. Everyone left him. Except for Travis, who finally approached Mirco.

“Let her,” he said simply and returned to checking the blueprint in front of him.

“She was waiting until midnight yesterday and the other day. I told the guard to tell her to leave.”

Mirco smirked. “We knew what she wanted. I won’t give her anything anymore.” He fetched his phone. “Tell Mr. Sato I wanted to meet with him now. Ready the plane.”

“You're flying to Japan?”

He nodded. “Don’t interfere next time,” he warned him. Mirco has a gut that Travis might tell her he was leaving and he doesn't want that. She can wait all she want, but she cannot get anything from him anymore.

“Alvien.” Travis was looking at him seriously. “I didn’t give up on her for you to treat her like this.”

Mirco’s hold on his phone tightened. He didn't expect that blow from his friend at the time being, thus he was taken aback for a few moments. “Are we talking about this right now?”

Travis was silent.

“Fine, go chase her. I don’t care about her anymore.” Mirco stood up. “Just prepare your wallets and cards.”

Travis sighed. “We knew her. She’s not like that.”

Mirco met his eyes. He cannot believe Travis was still believing her. “Well, I experienced it and you knew that too.”

Mirco was about to leave his office when he turned to Travis again, watching him leave. “Just so you know the latest news, she’s married with a child.”

“Should I drive you to the mansion already, sir?” Travis asked. It’s already past 11PM. They just came from Japan after the meeting with Mr. Sato went well. They will start the development as soon as the design for the building is approved.

Mirco shook his head. “I forgot a document in my office.”

Travis furrowed. “I can get it for you, so you can rest.”

“I’ll come with you,” he said with finality and leaned back, to rest for a bit while Travis was driving.

Travis furrowed only deepened. Usually, Alvien will tell him to get it himself so he will have more time in his house. Being in Mirco’s house means more time with his lovely daughter. Travis had a hunch what was running in his mind, but chose to be silent. They already had a heated conversation earlier this morning. He doesn’t want to cross a line again for today.

As the car moved to the company, Mirco talked to the nanny of Kendall, but he only felt upset that her princess was still awake at this time, waiting for him. He shouldn’t have changed his schedule. He always made sure he went home in time so her princess could sleep early with him. But today, he made an impulsive decision and flew to Japan. Unfortunately, his meeting went longer than what he expected. And now, he’s on his way to his company, getting a file he knows he can delay until tomorrow. What is he doing?

“Where’s the document, sir? I’ll get it,” Travis offered when the car stopped in the parking lot.

“In the safe.”

“Then I’ll just wait for your return. Should I buy you something to eat?”

He shook his head. “Buy Kendall a doll house. Like the one I sent you earlier.”

“Noted, sir.”

After that, Mirco got out of the car and used his private elevator. Once he’s in his office, he got the folder on the top of his table and went out. Mirco lied. There is no file in the safe. He just wanted to get the file himself because it is important. And instead of riding his private elevator, he found himself in the elevator usually used by his employees.

“I should try this once in a while.”

He pressed the floor where the entrance of the company is located. He hasn’t been at the entrance of the company for a while. He went straight to his office from the parking lot, using his private elevator. He wondered how it looks right now. Maybe, they could do some renovation.

As he stepped out of the elevator, he saw the floor dimly lit. He looked around to see the design and he felt like he came back to the days when he was still designing the said floor.

He was walking around, until hos feet brought him at the lobby, when he saw someone lying on the couch. Mirco stopped at his track. He thought all the employees were gone by now? He wanted to turn around and went back to the parking lot, as if he never saw anyone. Or maybe he could ask the guard to attend the woman, and get herself a cab or something. But his feet have their own mind.

He walked closer to the seat in the lobby, and towards the woman. She must probably be exhausted thus she ended up there, Mirco thought. He might be strict, but he cared about his employees too--even though he’s not showing it. Afterall, the employees made his company work.

The woman in front of him was wearing a suit, while her head was leaning on the armrest of the couch. A curtain of hair was keeping her face to his sight, making it harder for him to recognize her.

Mirco placed the file on the small table and fished his phone in his pocket. He pressed some buttons before dialing Travis’ number.

“Get a cab,” he instructed shortly. He didn’t even wait for Travis to respond and end the call.

Klynne heard murmurs. Maybe Calvin was dreaming again. She’s not sure. But she hope it’s not a nightmare.

With that thought in mind, she chose to wake up to check on him. She rubbed her eyes and let her sight adjust to the room of…

Klynne’s eyes widened. She’s not in their house!

Klynne straightened her seat but instantly regretted it when she felt her neck aching. She surpassed a yawn while massaging her neck. She looked at the darkness outside the building and sighed.

It looked like she wasted another day, waiting at the lobby of the company of Mr. Cortel. She slept on the same couch again like a homeless man waiting for something that will not come.

They should have told her he was busy, rather than letting her wait there. She finally made an appointment today. She was supposed to meet Mr. Alvien Cortel, but the woman at the front desk kept telling her that an emergency meeting had happened. The woman even mocked her that if she could not wait, she could leave and her appointment will be canceled.

Desperate, she waited again until the meeting ended. But she didn’t know it would take this long. If she…

Klynne’s thought was interrupted when she heard the noise of the shoes against the tiled floor. She followed where it came from when she saw him. She was expecting the guard since the whole floor is already empty like before.

But what was Mr. Cortel doing there at that time?

Hope swelled in her heart. She didn’t know the reason why, but she guessed it was because Mr. Cortel was there. She will finally get what she wants from him.

Before he went out of her sight, Klynne collected her things and called his name.

“Mirco!”
