XIX. That Faint Light

Ryder woke to the sound of someone whispering his name.

His eyes were still half-open. Only then did he realize that the ceiling that he was staring at was white–something he wasn’t really fond of.

He sat abruptly and regretted it. A wince escaped from his mouth and tried to push down the pain erupting from his stomach and sore body.

His thoughts flew back to the voice that woke him but as he scanned the hospital room, no one was there. Upon realizing that it was just a mere dream, a different kind of pain weighed him down all the more. He had this feeling or rather longing that he just couldn’t get rid off no matter what he does. Two years has passed since that war yet to Ryder, it was as fresh as his physical wounds. It was not that he wouldn't break free, he just couldn’t at the moment.
