MasukWhen you have been the subject of constant physical and mental abuse for fourteen years, you start to believe the words coming out of their mouths. My self-esteem was nonexistent, and I had been told I was dirty, ugly and useless so often it was all I knew. I longed for the physical contact of another person; no one had touched me since I was four years old, apart from when they raised their hands to beat me. I would watch from under my lashes as parents hugged their children, men and women cuddling, even friends greeting each other. I wanted to be held like that so much, have someone, anyone, give me a little affection; I barely remembered my Mama, she was just a loving shadow from my past. All I had to hold on to was that I had survived, in two short months, I would be eighteen, and I would be able to take control of my life.
I stared out of the tiny window in my bedroom, watching the raindrops race each other down the broken pane of glass; they appeared to be matching the tears running down my pale cheeks. It was my eighteenth birthday in two months, the day members of my Pack traditionally celebrated their coming of age. There should be a huge party in the main hall, and every Pack member who could attend would join with the new young adult in their happy celebration. They would bring gifts for them and surround them with love and affection, the way you can only feel by being part of a huge Pack; it was a time of joy and looking forward to their futures, secure in the knowledge that they would always have the other Pack members supporting them.
‘I will not be allowed to have such a party, though.’
I think to myself, because I know for sure not one Pack Member would ever have my back.
‘My coming of age would be no different to all the other days I had endured since the death of my mother. I still did not have my wolf, and it would be highly unlikely I would ever get one now, it was extremely rare for anyone over the age of sixteen to shift.’
That was not going to stop Alpha Reynolds from inflicting more pain on me. At the Festival of Age Ball that occurred whenever the full moon hit its zenith on the very night of my eighteenth birthday. He had ordered a very special, sadistic torment for me that would make me the centre of the Pack's attention. Determined to hopefully put an end to my miserable life, he was going to use his powerful Alpha command to force me to shift. It was the most painful, cruel command he could give. It was common knowledge that trying to force an adult to shift almost always ended with that person's death; it was rare for any shifter to live through the agonising pain being forced to shift caused. Even I knew that, and I had never been formally educated, but I also knew why he was going to do it because I had over heard himt alking to his two Betas. They say you never hear anything good if you deliberately overhear what others say about you. I had been walking through the back corridors of the mansion after completing my chores in the laundry when I heard the Alpha talking to his two Betas. They were standing just outside the back door, smiling and laughing with bottles of ice-cold water in their hands. It had been one of those lazy, hot end-of-summer days for the whole Pack, but not for me. My clothes were sticking to me from my own sweat after dragging buckets of water from the well into the mansion so that I could scrub the floors. I never got a day off, not even Christmas Day, and I knew if anyone caught me eavesdropping like this, I would probably end up in the hospital from the beating I would receive. I was frozen to the spot when I heard them mention me by name.
'So, Alpha. What are you going to do about that little runt living in your house.'
Beta Joshua asked, taking a long drink of his water and making me lick my dry lips.
'Yeah, doesn't she turn eighteen soon? Going to cause us problems if she stays Alpha, the Council will start asking questions.'
Beta Rowan replied, stretching his lithe body and pouring some of the water down the back of his neck, not caring that it dampened the t-shirt he was wearing.
'I am going to use my Alpha command to force her to shift at the upcoming Ball.'
The Alpha stated, and the two Betas gasped out loud, and I crumpled silently against the wall.
'But won't that kill her?'
Joshua whispered, his eyes wide with shock. He was clutching his water bottle so hard it split, sending water cascading all over his jeans.
'Hopefully, because when it does, she won't be our little problem anymore.'
The Alpha chuckled, and the two Betas joined in. I could hardly believe my ears, the threeof them laughing so casually about my demise, tears stung my eyes. I knew no one in the Pack cared about me, but this was brutal beyond belief. It took all my willpower not to curl up in a ball and howl like a baby at this injustice.
'Why was I so surprised? I knew that turning eighteen was going to cause the Alpha problems. I just did not think they would be this cruel to me.'
Shaking my head, I headed back to the kitchens. Dusk was falling, and already the temperature was dropping rapidly. I still had hours of work to do, so I forced my thoughts to become more practical as I pushed aside thoughts of my impending death, tied on the ragged apron around my shabby clothes and headed down the rickety back stairs to the kitchen. Working mechanically, I began one of my many chores, cleaning out the huge fireplace and then setting a new fire alight in it, leaving it to burn brightly, remembering to place the guard in front of it. Next, I headed out the back door carrying the heavy metal container I had to fill with water so I could complete the rest of my chores.
The girls clustered around me, exhausted and frightened, wearing only their underwear, some of them holding others up. I did not ask the obvious; these girls were not alright, and after what I had suffered, I knew they were living in a nightmare, and I had to get them out of it.'Follow me.'I told them, heading toward the stairwell, ignoring the fighting going on around me. Opening the door, I ushered them through and told them to head up the stairs, pointing to the exit door visible through the top door. They did not hesitate, helping those more traumatised than the others, they moved en masse upwards, and I waited until everyone of them got through it and out into the fresh air. When the last girl went through, I turned back into the melee behind me. I had to make sure no other Shifter remained trapped in this hell, so I dropped down onto all fours, shifting into Eclipse and allowing her to use her senses. We padded around the edge of the fighting, keeping to the shadows while scen
The fighting is intense as we make our way through the laboratories. The humans had thrown a huge army into guarding them, such was the secrecy of the work they did. Most of the human race was completely oblivious to what was going on behind these huge concrete walls. The dreadful experiments on living creatures, aimed not to help humankind but to cause as much pain as possible to the Supernaturals, and to find ways of taming them and if that was not possible, killing them. This is why we had to destroy them completely.'Alpha, there's a group of their Elite Soldiers ahead, holding down an area the size of a football pitch, must be something important.'Liam mind-linked me, and I moved ahead, crouched on my belly, ears pricked and listening to their chatting. They were so dumb, having no real concept of the Beings they were fighting, to my way of thinking, they were cannon fodder, given orders to fight to the death to help their fellow humans. In reality, they never stood a chance, a
I step back from the body of the 'Professor', dropping his head to the floor and turning to look at the four other humans working on their computers. They are all frozen, still in shock and fear as they stared at me, a huge, blood-soaked, silver Werewolf looking for more fresh blood. Growling from deep in my chest, my paws tip tap on the marble floor as I move toward the nearest male. He is so frightened that he cannot move, so removing his head from his shoulders is far too easy and instantly the other three begin to panic. I stand watching them run around, unable to find their way out of the secure room, tripping over themselves and each other as their fear of their upcoming fate makes them even fight each other. I walk calmly into the middle of the room and wait, knowing I don't even have to chase these foolish creatures. One by one, their panic makes them run directly at me, arms flailing and screaming their anger and fear, trying to attack me. With barely any effort, I dispatc
Carter woke me up after only a couple of hours. I was surprised I had drifted off but my body had been exhausted so it was hardly a shock that it had given up on me when it had the chance. 'Alpha, the Leaders of the other Shifter Realms are arriving.'He told me and I jumped to my feet running my fingers through my thick black hair trying to tame some of the wild curls that hang down past my shoulders. 'Where are they?'I yawned and then shook my head pushing away the remaining vestiges of sleep.'Time to find my mate.'I think, as I headed to the centre of the area we had cleared for this meeting.Standing waiting to greet me are two huge golden haired men,'Thank you for coming.'I rach out me hand to the twin Princes who wil one day take over the Pridelands, their father had defeated the previous King who had allowed his sons to violate my mate. All three had been slaughtered when King Mufasa had decided their arrogance and bragging about how they were going to be Kings of all th
It took me a long time to come around. Whatever he had drugged me with kept me sluggish and unresponsive for hours, but I did become conscious long before I could actually do anything about my situation.I listened, though. He was talking to someone, and he was telling whoever it was about me. Everything about me.What he had done. What he had given me.How he had drugged me.My foggy brain kept repeating one thing.'Why does whoever was on the other end of the conversation want to know so much about my capture? It was a few hours later when the fog finally cleared, but I remained still, letting the 'Professor' think I was still under the influence of the drugs. I was waiting for him to get close to me, and then he would discover the mistake he had made.He did not know how fast I could shift, and Eclipse was ready and waiting to give him a taste of her kind of justice.I heard the 'Professor' approaching, and Eclipse tensed, ready to shift, but he was not alone. Two pairs of highly
My men bring the Janitor out to me and he looks terrified, with good reason, I am furious with his betrayal of our children and what it has led to. 'Take him back to the Pack House and prepare him for questioning.'I tell them and then walk across to the Principal who is chatting to Matty. Both men bow their heads respectfully when I reach them.'Alpha?'Matty questions and I turn to the Principal raising an eyebrow,'What can you tell me?'He swallows a couple of times and thens sighs deeply.'He came on the recommendation of one of our teachers, he's her brother, a recovering drug addict, so she said.'He stopped talking and ran his hands through what little hair he had left on his almost bald head.'I thought I was helping the guy, you know?' He groans and shakes his head.'I'm so damn sorry.''Please, tell me what you know?'I order him and he bows his head again.'Of course, Alpha. He was blackmailed from what his sister has told me. They found out about his past and threatene
