I’m sitting on the white couch that I and Charlie bought a few weeks ago with our hard-earned money. Since we moved into this city in New York, we have been working our butt off just to provide a living for ourselves. It isn’t easy, but since we have each other, we do it simply out of love, and if you ask me, we have been doing fine, or so I thought.
Just right on the dinner table, I can hear Charlie’s phone ringing. I ignore the call because he is in the bathroom, and whenever he is done, he will take his call. I go on reading my book, crossing my leg over to the other.
It’s my off day today at work. I really don’t have much to do other than prepare breakfast for Charlie and read the loads of books, which I had stockpiled for over two weeks.
I focus on reading the third line of my novel when the phone buzzes up again, whoever it’s kept on calling, causing me to baffle.
"Charlie, I think you have an urgent call!” I shout so that he can hear me, but most times the sound of the water from the bathroom prevents him from hearing my voice.
There is no response from Charlie, and I'm honestly right that he didn’t hear my voice despite cracking up my voice and almost tearing up my throat from within.
"Charlie, I'm going to see who is calling since whoever it is wants to run your battery down.” I holler at him, and I'm certain he still didn’t hear. I jump out of the couch as I stride to the dinner table.
The phone keeps vibrating on the table, and I pick it up immediately.
"Charlie, why the fuck are you not taking my calls? Jeez, I'm so horny, and I've been calling you to come over to my place so that you can give me some fucking great sex!” She speaks hurriedly, and I freeze on my spot after hearing all of that. "I just can't take my mind off the sex we had last night in the bathroom."No. no. no.
I’m sure it’s the wrong number; I hang up the call without thinking much about it. She fucking called the wrong number, and she will realize that after she didn’t get any response and hung up on her.
I’m about to put his phone down on the table and return to my reading when I hear the phone ringing again. I grab the phone, and it’s the same number calling. Goodness, what is wrong with her? Doesn’t she realize that she is calling the wrong person?!
I’m about to get mad already, but no, I think I should just tell her straight away that she is calling the wrong person, so I answer the call."Look, young lady, don’t you realize that you are calling the wrong number?” I speak softly, trying to advise her to check the number she is calling.
"Who are you? Why are you on Charlie’s phone? And for fuck sake, I'm not calling the wrong number; I'm calling my boyfriend!” She yells at me, and I ridiculously let out a small laugh as though I just received a blow on my chest.
"C..Charlie, your boyfriend?” My hands freeze up, and I don’t realize when I start stuttering in my speech. What is this lady talking about?
Charlie and I had been mated as one; we have consummated our union as werewolves and humans. According to humans who are so fluent with English, they call this marriage. So, in short, Charlie is married to me. What does she mean by Charlie being her boyfriend?
No, this must be a mistake. I’m about to hang up the call again when I notice her number has been saved on his phone.
Hell, no. I whisper in my hot breath. Elisa?
I hang up the call with my cold, shaking hands as I go through his W******p page, searching for her name, but I can’t seem to find it until I click on the search button at the top bar, typing out her name.I feel a huge blow across my chest. No, it’s more than a huge blow; it’s as if someone had stepped on my chest and I could barely take in air for survival. I blink my eyes again, seeing that he hid her chats under archive messages. That isn’t the only thing; her name saved on his phone is Elisa in my heart.
I can no longer feel my feet; they have gone dead, and I'm only on my feet with numb legs. I haven't reacted yet, but my cheeks are already flooding with tears as my heart continues to crack.
I left his W******p page and decided to call the number again. She picks up the call immediately, as though she had been expecting him to call back.
“ Charlie?” She calls his name, and I sink my teeth into my button lips, baring my teeth so I don't spark like fire, seeking confirmation that there must have been a mistake somewhere, so I keep quiet to listen to her voice. Her voice is soft; it sounds more like a lull, way softer than mine. Thoughts roam in my head as I remain silent.
"Charlie, why are you not saying anything?!” She barks as silence fills the air. No, this cannot be true. My neck feels tight as I drag in a long breath, as though invisble hands are wrapped around my neck, and a fat man sits on my chest as I struggle to breathe, the way I had been breathing freely just a while ago before this call.
"Charlie, who is that woman? Wait, are you cheating on me?” She changes her tone; now it’s real; a woman cannot repeat this statement more than twice. A woman wouldn’t delibately fool herself with a man if he wasn’t welcoming her with open arms."You said I was your only lover!” She screams. I don’t know when my hands quiver with shock as the phone slips away from my hands and crashes to the ground. I’m freezing on my spot as I stand firm like a statue without even being moved by the breeze coming through the window. I'm in such deep shock that I can neither scream nor cry; it’s as if my voice is trapped in my throat. “ Honey?” Charlie shouts my name as he walks out of the bathroom. I turn to stare at him as if he were a ghost as tears trickle down my cheek. “ Goodness, Are you okay, Lily?” Goodness, his voice is so gentle and filled with so much fake innocence; he is painfully gorgeous. With a natural tan, light brown hair, and a slicked back, his square, masculine jaw was sharper than a knife. He looks like sweet sin and regret. He steps forward until he can see the tears flooding my cheek. I watch the sudden shock in his eyes, and then the confusion sweeps across his green hazel eyes as he sees his phone lying on the flo
Troy POV It’s 2 a.m., midnight, and it’s impossible for a guard to knock by this time. Was Shrike locked outside the palace, or has he sneaked out to see his family again without any permission from me? Shrike is one of my favorite guards who finds it more comforting to take permission from me than my father or Zac, my elder brother. My father is the strictest and fiercest man on this planet, a man who will kick his only daughter out of his life without a second thought. He should be a man you should never move an inch to. A man you should always battle with your breath whenever you are near him. “ Shrike? Is that you?” I move quietly towards the door. This door is a secret passage to the palace, and only very few of us know about it, including Shrike. I hear no response from him, causing me to hesitate in my steps. It’s unusual; I should have heard his whispers asking for help to let him in. “Who is that?” I shout with my fierce tone, and the tone is lowered so that no one in the
The tears are blurring my vision, and I hate that I can’t help it. My life has been shattered in a blink of an eye. I have nowhere to go, and I have nothing with me. Charlie left with the bank card we had. We used a joint account and had only one card because we had to cut down on expenses since we were striving to live peacefully on our own without depending on our families. Charlie doesn’t have a family; he is an orphan and the only child of his dead parents. I promised to give him the family he never had; we promised to be each other's family and love each other dearly. But I don’t believe Charlie will ever do this to me; it feels like a nightmare—a nightmare that I'm screaming and struggling to come out of. It feels like a nightmare that my breath is being snatched away. I can’t help it; I can’t stop thinking and reminiscing on every word that came from Charlie. The more I think about it, the more it feels like my head wants to roll off my neck. The more I feel like I'm suffocat
"What do I do now?” The moment I say those words, I feel my whole world crumbling down like a wall. I've never been more scared than I am right now.“ Lily....." He sighs first as he opens his mouth to speak before his phone begins to ring in his pocket. I can see confusion and anger all over his face, as if he is helpless about what to do."Zac is calling," he tells me as his blue eyes get sadder. It’s a sign that he has to go now. I think he has sneaked out of the palace to come after me."Lily, I'm so sorry. I have to leave now before Archie finds out. Zac just...” I stop him from explaining too much. I already know what is going on. Father had bound them from seeing me; he didn’t need to explain much; he looks so pathetic when he does."I think I will be fine. Go now. I don’t want anything to happen to you.” I push his hands away from mine so that he can leave already. He quickly turns his back, so I don’t see the tears on the brink of his eyes. "Alright, take care," he says with a
Charlie’s POV"What took you so long, Charlie?” She sits on a black wooden chair behind the fireplace, swinging the glass of Domaine Leroy Musigny Grand Cru wine in her hand. It’s one of her favorite and most expensive wines. She stares seductively at me with her dark brown eyes. I stiffen as I walk closer because whenever I go close to her, my dick shamelessly sticks out from my jeans as if dancing to the tone of her tight, clammy pussy."I was getting rid of everything that could stop me from making love to you tonight.” I wink at her as I throw my bags on the white fabric couch. I always love the aura of her room, especially the romantic candles she always lights up whenever she is expecting my arrival. Then a couple of paintings were attached to the walls of her spacious bedroom. I stared long at the art of the lady nude with heavy boobs around her chest and the curves of her slim waist. The lady in the artwork looks exactly like her.The first time I came, I had mistaken the art
I remain on the floor, leaning at the door of the apartment, which has already been locked. I have nowhere to go but to lie on this floor.I have no friends, and I can’t go back to my home. My life is no longer safe in my home. I can’t believe I suddenly became an outcast in less than forty-eight hours. “Ma'am, you have to leave; it’s cold out here, and beside, someone who wants to rent the apartment is coming to check it out soon. It won’t be nice if he sees someone sleeping in front of the room that he is about to rent.” The owner of the building advises me to leave since I’m no longer a tenant in the building. “Can I stay a little while, please? I have no where to go; I’m pregnant, and I’ve been abandoned by my husband.” I hated that I started sounding like a beggar. It hollows out a pit in my stomach as I squeal. “Sorry to hear that.” He calmly says, turning his heels to leave me be for a little while. I have stopped crying, and I'm now so numb that I can barely feel myself. I
“You need to stop beating yourself over that guilt, Lily.” Diana smiles enthusiastically as she stops the car in front of a building. It’s about a two-story building. I get out of the car as I stare at the building with hope in my eyes. I think my suspicions are right; Diana no longer lives in Yonger.“That’s more like it, Lily. I want you to smile and be happy because no man is worth your tears.” She walks around the car from the driver's seat to meet me as she holds my hand.“Are you stunned that I now live in New York?" She blushes, tucking her long black hair behind her ears as she leads me through the building.“I am, Diana.” I say, quietly.“Well, I moved out just to start over somewhere new; it had to be in New York because I found a very good job here.” She stares happily at me as we walk through the stairs leading to the second floor.“I wish I didn’t leave you.” The sadness in my tone is something I cannot easily get rid of. I’m guilty as fuck, and I have to go through it.“
The room is spacious and really girlish, with colorful art and flowers around every corner of the walls.Diana leads me into an empty room. It’s comfy, with soft blue blankets on the bed and a window with beautiful views from the outside. “This is your room; I hope you like it.” Her face radiates as she turns on the colorful light from the TV side.“Like is an understatement. I love it.” I stare happily at her as she comes to sit on the soft bed with me.“I want you to take a quick bath and come out for dinner.” She caresses my face, then pats my hair before she gets off the bed.She is about to walk away when I grab her wrist , "Thank you so much, Diana.” She meets the intensity of love and sincerity in my eyes.“Don’t sweat it. I told you I would always have your back from now on.” She rubs the back of my hand calmly until she drops it slowly on the bed and makes her way out of the room.“I will be waiting for you. You need to eat something for the sake of your babies.” she hollers
