Hearing that Ingrid is sick is really not in her vocabulary. And maybe the anger hasn’t sat on her head fully enough that she slightly feels worried about Ingrid. Or maybe it was Helena’s feelings for her sister and not Alana. Because she knows that her suffering would never be enough to pay for the life that was taken away so easily on that night because of her selfishness.

“Your father called, and he is asking if I could bring you back to your house for a while since your sister needs you there,” Louis explained more as they were both in his car now.

“What could possibly happen?” she asked while she was fidgeting with her fingers resting on her lap.

“I heard the news earlier this day that the Adams called off the wedding of your sister and Darren. It must have been the reason why your sister got sick,” he said.

As soon as the reason was mentioned, Helena immediately knew what was happening. It was one of her sick games again, and Helena could really read what she was up to. Just like what happened to her when she was Alana, it would repeat again, this time during her time as Helena.

During that moment, Ingrid paid her a visit at the Montville house. She knew that Ingrid would do everything just to get the spot she wanted so much, and it was all because of Louis Montville. She could really sense that Ingrid wanted Louis now more than she wanted Darren from the past.

Look at how bitchy that woman is. As soon as she saw Louis enter that room, I knew that the horn in her head was immediately activated, and she was eager to replace me instead. Can you believe it? She can betray not just her best friend but even her own sister. I cannot believe she is really that bad, huh?

She was having her internal rage as she wanted to tell Louis what that woman is up to and what could be the possible reason why their marriage was suddenly called off, but she controlled herself.

“Do you have an idea what could be the possible reason why the wedding was called off?” And just like what she wanted to blurt out, Louis already asked the answer.

“Oh…I… don’t really have much of an idea about her relationship with Darren, but I know that they are both madly in love with each other, so I am quite shocked that…they chose to call off the marriage. It seems surreal.” She shared her opinion based on what the two had done to her because of their obsession with each other.

“They probably had a tremendous fight. Your sister seemed petty and overreacting,” he commented, to which Helena laughed a bit.

“You’re too much.” That’s actually too shallow to describe that woman. She is more than that, Louis. She is a narcissistic, jealous psychopath bitch who is so insecure and who wants everything from her loved ones.

She wanted to blurt it out, but she stopped herself. She doesn’t want to just clumsily share something about her past because she still can’t fully trust. Although she had opened up a bit, she knows that her trust issues are greater than the empathy she felt on that night with him.

“Oh, she is probably worse than that,” Louis added, which made Helena’s eyes widen. “I really don’t like your sister.”

“She hasn’t done anything to you,” she said.

“I don’t like her energy, that’s it.”

Helena was really shocked every time Louis would point out that he doesn’t like Ingrid. He is so consistent that Helena could feel Louis would be so hard to get, despite how Ingrid would desperately seduce him.

When they finally arrived at the Ashers’ mansion, the Ashers welcomed them as her mother hugged her tightly.

“Oh, I missed you…”

Helena smiled and hugged her back. “I miss you too, Mom…”

Her father kissed her head as well, and they also welcomed Louis, who looked strict while he just stood behind like a wolf who was protecting a sheep.

“What happened?” Helena asked while her mother was now

“She is devastated. She hasn’t told us the reason why the Adams suddenly called off the engagement, but she has been locking herself in her room while crying nonstop and drinking wine until she passed out from stress,” her mother explained while they were now heading upstairs to go to Ingrid’s room.

Helena wanted to roll her eyes and make a face to hear how Ingrid has been dramatically playing her little game to make them believe that she is really heartbroken when Helena knew so well that she is now plotting another evil scheme behind their back.

“She really wants to see you. Your sister wants to vent out on you. I hope you give her a little of your time, Helena. She needs you right now,” her mother said pleadingly.

Oh please. She just wanted the attention. She wanted to get Louis’ attention—not mine, for sure. It’s what was roaring in her mind, but she tried to control herself and acted like she was concerned, but deep down, she wanted to just roll her eyes continuously.

As soon as the door opened to her room, Helena saw Ingrid on the bed, looking so weak with her puffy eyes that Ingrid immediately got out of bed and ran to her. Helena stopped midway until Ingrid hugged her tightly and cried in her arms.

Behind Helena were Mr. Asher and Louis, who watched the two and looked at Ingrid, who was suddenly emotional seeing her one and only sister.

“I’m glad you are here.” Ingrid cried while she was pouring everything out of her like a kid who finally got her own alley.

“They’re really close,” Mrs. Asher told Louis, who just stared at the two.

They all gave them space inside Ingrid’s room so she could open up to Helena. And as soon as the door closed, Ingrid continued her drama just to let Helena see that she was really heartbroken.

“What happened?” Helena asked.

“He called off the wedding,” she confessed and bowed while wiping off her tears that kept on trickling down, making her look more devastated.

“Why? Did the two of you fight?” she asked while they both sat down on her bed and Ingrid was holding her hands.

“I feel like he has another woman, Helena. I feel like Darren is cheating behind my back.” Her shoulders trembled miserably. “I couldn’t tell it to our parents because I don’t want to disappoint them that I might not continue the arrangement between the Adams if they found out Darren has been cheating behind my back.”

Helena couldn’t seem to process what Ingrid just said. She didn’t know how to react either. But one thing is for sure: she knows that it was just one of her pretentious dramas to make herself the victim and to fish for some sympathy.

“He seems madly in love with you. It was shocking that he would cheat behind your back,” Helena stated, trying to act like she truly cared and was concerned, but at the back of her mind, she was already saying the opposite of the words she uttered.

“I was shocked too. I cannot believe he could do that to me,” she cried.

“But he seems like a cheater. He looked like a cheating asshole who would make a woman cry and stab her in the back while her feelings were genuine.”

Ingrid nodded while covering her face with her two hands as she cried even more, but she was already hiding her reaction because she remembered what happened to her best friend, and she was feeling a little bit of guilt because of her death.

“Don’t worry, Ingrid. I will pray to the moon goddess that he will get his karma for cheating behind your back. I will pray deeply that those cheaters and manipulators will taste their own medicine and get the punishment they deserve. They don’t deserve kindness,” Helena said in her thickest voice, her rage lacing in it as she was pouring her heart out.

Ingrid was a bit moved by her words, and it felt like it was also meant for her. But she knew that her sister had no idea what she had done; that’s why it made her a bit more at ease.

“Darren loves me, Helena…” she whimpered.

“If he loves you, he would never cheat on you. Maybe that’s the real person he is, a cheater. We should tell this to our parents so they would not involve themselves with the Adams. Darren deserves to be exposed in the town so everyone would know what kind of person he is and no girls would dare to date him,” Helena suggested, which made Ingrid shake her head right away.

Of course she would not let Darren get exposed in the town because it’s a big headline and others might dig deeper on his secrets that would also put her on the spot.

“No…No… It’s okay. I don’t want to exacerbate this, Helena. The Adamses are important in our family, and let us just…give Darren the benefit of the doubt. I don’t want the townspeople to hate him. I know he is nice.”

“Nice? He cheated on you. We don’t really know what more he could do, and it is more convenient if he is exposed, Ingrid. In that way, his true colors would be revealed. Don’t you want that? He would get his own karma for cheating on you.”

Still, Ingrid shook her head. “No. That is too much. I don’t want to hurt him the way he hurts me. Let’s just keep this, please.”

Ingrid was fuming mad that Helena is trying to add more to her plans that she did not see coming. She always sees Helena as someone who seems like a sheep who doesn’t even fight back or is just too silent to voice out her opinion, making her introverted. She is the kind of sister whom she knows she could easily manipulate, and to hear her speaking so boldly made her blood boil to the core.Helena’s suggestion would put her in danger, knowing that she knows too well that there is much more behind what she was saying right now than what is buried beneath the surface. It was darker than Darren’s cheating allegation. It was not just adultery but also a truly heavy crime. And she would not let her ruin her image for her sister’s suggestion. She would never allow it.“All I just want right now is to isolate for a while so I can think better, and I want it to be with you. I want to open up to you just like the past years, Helena. You have comforted me a lot of times in the past, and I have b

“Ingrid!” Mrs. Asher rushed to her room as soon as the announcement was made by the Adams, just like what they had planned the other night for Ingrid’s plans. It was Darren who called it off so that Ingrid’s family had no choice but to accept it, knowing that Darren’s parents would easily agree to everything he wanted. And as soon as Mrs. Asher got into Ingrid’s room, the tissues on the floor and even the state of her clothes—the bottle of wine she was drinking while Ingrid was on the floor crying helplessly made Mrs. Asher’s anger turn into concern.“What is happening, Ingrid? Why did the Adams call the wedding off?!” Her mother asked worriedly while watching her daughter’s lament. She caressed Ingrid’s back who reached for the bottle of wine to gulp it down, but her mother took it from her hand.“You are a mess, Ingrid! Stop this and tell me what happened!” her mother demanded.Ingrid continued crying, just like how good at acting she is, showing her mother that she was wrecked and

It was a heavy topic for Helena, but what’s different about it is that for the first time, she was able to talk about her experience from the past with someone else who was willing to listen. And she knew that it wasn’t just a nightmare while she was asleep; it was also her nightmare when she was awake. The call made her night a little bit more comfortable afterwards, and she was able to sleep so soundly. When tomorrow came, she was already looking forward to Louis’ promise that he would visit her and they would eat together. She couldn’t come home to the mansion of the Montville yet because of her ongoing classes at the camp. Her subject in class A to determine her strength when it comes to close combat, was now the main highlight of her day. She listened carefully to the lesson while their coach was a woman this time.“The strength of a person cannot be measured by gender, because there are women like me who are stronger than a man. I could pin five men down in just close combat and

“Shut up about him. He is not important between us,” Darren murmured.Ingrid was already internally screaming in frustration, but she wanted her plans to work out, and she could not achieve it without Darren’s help. She needed a good alibi, an ally to achieve her dark goals.“No, listen to me, Darren. The Montville, especially Louis Montville himself, might be hiding something else. He is now the fiancé of my sister, and I am just worried, you know. Now that the Montville is close to the Asher, isn’t it more convenient for both of us to investigate and to know about his weakness? Don’t you want to be the top in Emerald Ville? Hmm.”With Darren’s silence, Ingrid knew so well that he was now contemplating her words. She smirked wickedly as everything was slowly favoring her.“What do you want then?” he asked.“Well…” She cleared her throat. “I want to call off the wedding.”“Fuck, Ingrid. Are you fucking kidding me? After everything we have done? Are you kidding me?!”“Calm down, okay!

When Louis noticed she was staring too much, she immediately looked away and put her attention on her food instead.“You seem comfortable with Bruno. I am expecting you would feel comfortable with me too,” he said.Helena then realized that he might have seen the way she laughs at Bruno’s jokes earlier and noticed that she is indeed more comfortable with Bruno than the way she behaves when she is with him.“I just find you too intimidating sometimes; that’s why I am still trying to… adjust to you,” she reasoned.“You don’t have to adjust, you know. Just be yourself.”“Bruno is quite funny; that’s why I laughed at him earlier,” he pointed out.Louis’ brow arched. “Is that low-key telling me that I’m boring?”Her eyes widened so much that she shook her head in a panicking way. “No. I mean, you are way too serious sometimes, and it is hard to talk to you since you seem like you would blatantly say mean things to me if I didn’t answer you right.”“Well, I’m used to being like that, but… i
