I have had a very busy day so am publishing a bit later than normal for me. I have a crazy week ahead of me, but will be planning to post chapters daily. Much love to you all.
Nova’s POV The weekend was perfect, Friday night and Saturday night with Aldo, then brunch with Neville, where we found out that the Brunch place was Aldo's new gig. What a small world! The only sucky things about the weekend were Cassie’s family drama and all the drama with my sister. Adia’s drama seems nearly endless. I think she created more drama than necessary, sometimes. Monday comes and goes, without much of anything exciting. Tuesday brings both rain and announcements about the homecoming committee. I love dancing, but do not want to be on some planning committee. However, most of the school is buzzing to find out what theme days and events the committee will plan. Wednesday trickles by, until after school, when Sidney and I are finally alone working on our ideas for the Avant Garde Night. She pulls me into her room and makes me sit on her bed and says “So I know you are trying to be all nonchalant about it, but I noticed you and Neville talking about you dating some
Aldo POV I have been looking forward to today all week! I am doing my Saturday chores on Friday morning, before I go to work because I have a special day planned for tomorrow. I already told Nova that they need to keep all day clear Saturday, but haven’t told them the plan. I am taking them on an extra special and extra fun date. Most of this week has been just average with the exception of my phone calls and texting with Nova, but it sucks that we are both so busy during the week to see each other. Between my shifts at the coffee shop, band practice (the guys are still being weird but are a little better) and Nova having school and homework, we are both so busy. I have a mid shift at the coffee shop and Adia doesn’t come in until after her classes, so I only have to deal with her flirtations for the last hour and a half of my shift. She bluntly blurts “Are you gay?” after one of her failed attempts at flirting with me. “I am not really sure what to say to that, Adia. I
Nova’s POV I was beyond surprised to see that my uncle Mateo was home, when he interrupted the very nice kiss that Aldo greeted me with when he came to pick me up tonight. Aldo talks about my sweet watermelon kisses, but his are sweet mint and strawberry. I know it is toothpaste and lip balm, but it's so delightful when the flavors come from his lips. I’m also so glad that Uncle Mateo decided to join us. I am not surprised that all of my friends think my uncle is hot. He is older than me but we share some features, his face is a little broader, his nose is smaller, as are his lips and his skin is a caramel color as opposed to my more mocha shade. Then we have the same curly coils, but mine are purple and black while his are a warm brown. We are both known for having the best of our family’s features. I am totally feeling Aldo’s set. He stuck with all love songs, from different genres and time periods and dedicated it to me. I’m still blushing, even though he is now of
Aldo’s POV I’m reeling from last night. My gig went wonderfully, but I hadn’t expected Nova’s Uncle Mateo to be home, nor to join us . I definitely hadn’t figured on him being the same Mateo that Cicely used to have a thing with. Then, he goes and reveals that my babe used to sneak out to do drag performances in the last city that they lived in. Not only that but they were a superb performer.Watching them on stage had me divided between jealousy that others could see my babe move so seductively and proud of them for being so amazing at what they do. The part where they collapsed off of the stage into my lap at the end would have really freaked me out if I hadn’t realized that it was a controlled collapse, for both dramatic effect and a way to quickly get to where I was. This brings me to other things…a protectiveness over Nova was awoken in me. I have never felt protective of anyone other than my sisters, and possible mom. I just want to cradle Nova in a protective embrace, yet r
Nova’s POV Let me just say that Aldo is so sweet, but Oh, My god! Getting me up after the crappy night sleep I had. I just couldn’t fall asleep. I was so fired up from the darg performance, and worried about Aldo second guessing being with me after that. My mind was running a mile a minute and I just couldn’t fall asleep. The coffee and his sweet peck on my cheek were a very nice thing to get first thing in the morning and the look on his face was amusing. How could he look at me with desire and admiration when I know I wake up a hot mess? I really liked his expression when I came out in the outfit that I am currently wearing. What really floored me though is Mami telling him that he could call her “mom” and making most of my favorite breakfast foods for us before we left. My mom isn’t like that with most people. She usually threatens them or acts jovial, but still reserved, but this was a genuine “welcome to the family” type of move, especially when she left us in the kitchen un
Nova\s POV Saturday day and night were wonderful. The ferris wheel was romantic with just the two of us up there together. I fell asleep at some point on the ride home and He carried me upstairs, but had to set me on my feet at the door. He made sure I was stable and could get inside before kissing me goodnight and Uncle Mateo must have been successful in distracting Abulita because she didn’t strike this time. The goodnight kiss was filled with both tenderness and longing. I know he is holding back, that he really wants to move forward, but is also being respectful of both my age and the fact that I may not be ready. Sunday we had a family day, which we haven’t done in a long time. The school day flew by today…I mentioned the idea I had for Avant Garde Night to Sidney at lunch and she liked it. Now, I am standing outside of the auditorium making myself push the doors open only to see Grace standing in front of me. She has been exceptionally quiet the last two weeks, an
Aldo’s POV Here I am Getting ready to Pick Nova up for another one of my Friday gigs and I gotta say work has gone well this week. Adia is less flirtatious. She still flirts a little here and there, but yesterday she was staring at me with a weird look on her face. Flashback to Yesterday: “What are you looking at me that way for?” I ask puzzled by what that expression could possibly mean. “I’m trying to figure you out. You act offended if I ask if you are gay, you act offended if I assume you are straight. You seem straight, then do something that seems very gay. You won’t tell anyone anything about your significant other. You are a conundrum…a very good looking conundrum, but I just can’t figure you out.” Adia replies with a serious expression. I chuckle, “Girl, there are days that I am still trying to figure me out! I am not offended that you asked if I was gay as much as I was surprised. I am offended that anyone assumes anyone else’s sexuality. As for my sig
Nova’s POV With excitement fueling me I rush home from Theater Club to get ready for Aldo to pick me up for his Friday night gig. I’m glad that Aiden is letting him use his car, but I really hope Aiden gets out of the funk that he is in. Aldo might not say it outright, but he is bothered that Aiden still isn’t going out beyond going to work. Last night Aldo texted that he quit his band and that he really hopes that he has never been the kind of asshole that they were all being. I can’t imagine Aldo being an asshole, he’s so sweet and thoughtful. When I get home I see a pile of clothing on my bed with a note from Adia . ‘I decided to clean out my closet. If any of these fit or you can make them work go for it, kiddo. You always have a way of making things look good on you. Much love-A’ I look at the clothes and decide that most of them can at least be worked with and I really do not have enough in my closet so I can try
