Carolyn's POV

(16 Years)

"Hey, you piggy! Our toilet was clogged and leaking the other day. Wanna come and take a dive. Oh! Sorry, I forgot that you won't fit in."

"She'll break the pot with her foot. But honestly, Adelyn, don't you feel ashamed? You're only sixteen and you look like... Like a mountain."

"Don't offend her, Peter. What if she comes at you? You won't be able to survive her push, let alone her fat body. Anyway, fatty, I've got some chips here. Take them."

A packet of chips came out of nowhere and hit my head. It dropped with a sound. I was glaring at it with stinging eyes.

This is the most painful time of school. Though every hour is painful, the lunch break is when all the doors of hell are sprung open. And these devil's come with their snide comments, hurling them at me from all the sides.

Nothing has changed in my life. I'm still pretty big. In fact, I've become bigger. I can barely fit into the backseat of my father's car. In the end he made me take the bus. But the kids in the bus are horrible. They wouldn't let me board. They say I'll break the bus with my weight. Even the driver didn't stop them. He rather looked at me like a juicy chunk of beef. You know what I mean, right?

"Where are you lost, baby whale?" A bottle hit my forehead and my head lolled to the side.

I raised my teary eyes to find Scott Blueburt, the new student. He joined last year and he's the cutest. His father is a successful businessman and owns a billion dollar huge empire. Scott is his only son. They had left the pack for business expansion and settled elsewhere. But his father was homesick after achieving all his goals and decided to return home i.e. The Night Storm Pack.

Every girl is crazy for Scott. He's got this cute smile and chiseled jaw that every girl drools over. You see, I am not immune to it like everybody else. I think I am in love with Scott. I never dared to tell him because a guy like him would never want a big chunky girl like me, will he?

Everything aside, he hasn't bullied me before.... Until today. And it hurts like someone shoved a hand down my throat and caught my heart in a squeezing hold.

"Sorry, Carolyn. I wanted to see if the bottle would come back to me. You know physics." He shrugged as my sister, who is his girlfriend, chuckled at his words.

I lowered my head and clutched the straps of my bag. I was about to turn and flee when Gemma, one of Adelyn's puppets, blocked my way.

"Where are you going, baby Elephant? Take the bag of chips with you. You'll need it after you run from here, won't you?" She came forward as I took steps backwards.

I opened my mouth to plead. But no words would come out. With my body, my tongue has also become thick over the years. I can't fight back. I'm no longer the girl I used to be. I can't stand against them all. Not when my own sister, my very twin sister, watches everything happily.

Years of body shaming has sealed my lips together. All I do is beg.

"P-please..." I whispered and trailed off as Scott came forward.

Adelyn was frowning at his back. She gritted her teeth when Scott pushed Gemma aside and wiped my tears.

"Hey, Carolyn! Stop crying. We're sorry. We didn't mean to hurt you. We're just having some fun." My heart thrummed in yummy delight at the sound of his words.

Did I mention that Scott was the very first person who agreed to do a group project with me so far? He helped me, unlike my sister.

"Are you okay?" He asked while cupping my cheek.

My face instantly heated up. This is the first time a guy is touching me. I observed Scott and felt my stomach overturn. He's the tallest guy in the school. We are the same age... All Sixteen. But still he overshadows all of us like a tree.

"I... I'm fine." I spoke in a small voice.

"Look, the piggy is blushing." Gemma snorted.

Scott narrowed his eyes with a barely there smile, "Blushing? I don't see much. And wait, you blush only when you like someone. Carolyn, does that mean... You like me?"

I bit my lip as I avoided his gaze. I don't know when and how it started. But I like him more than my own life.

"Yes, Carolyn... Do you like me?"

"I... I..."

"Don't be scared, love. Just tell me the truth."

Love? A-am I dreaming? Scott wouldn't... He couldn't... I'm the ugliest in the pack. I stand no chance in front of my sister.

  • Rise Above Rejection   Chapter 64

64Oliver's POV "Love, you're being too—" "Shut up, Jean, you've given him unnecessary freedom. Look what he's done! He shared Rafael's story with a girl who's unleashed chaos in her old pack. How can he not know about friends and enemies? He's not an eight year old!" "He's just kind, Hannah. He didn't know Carolyn Cooper's back story. He—" "Stop defending him. Her being another Alpha's daughter was enough knowledge for him to know where to open his mouth or not. He didn't just tell a girl a secret. He handed information about our pack to someone who could use it against us.""He didn't know it'd come down to this, Hannah. Stop making him feel like it's his mistake. He didn't mean it." Dad wiped a hand over his forehead. Mom seethed, "It's not just one mistake, Jean. His mistake has turned into a disaster. An innocent soul suffered days long of oppression. You heard what they did to him, right, Jean? Rafael could've died because of his one mistake."I gulped as I looked at her, "

  • Rise Above Rejection   Chapter 63

63Oliver's POV With my mind occupied, we silently journeyed back to the pack. Mom and dad left to meet the Alpha while I came home, making an excuse that I needed to freshen up. They didn't mind because they were bound by pack duties as the lead doctors of the pack, not me. Nevertheless, the second I stepped inside our house and into my room, I retrieved my phone from the desk of the bedside table and switched it on. As expected, my phone hung for a few minutes after I connected Wifi because of all the messages I received. There were so many. I right away went to the college's group chats and read all the unread messages. My stomach knotted when I read some of the things. The chats were full of disgusting rumors. More than what Rafael had endured... It was being discussed around like some startling scene from a movie. My nerves contracted after reading a certain message— It was about Rafael râping some girl. "People are so twisted. How can they spread this without knowing him! T

  • Rise Above Rejection   Chapter 62

62Oliver's POV My heart cluncked against my ribs and constricted. I wiped a hand on my face as I dashed out of the college building. The back of my eyes was burning with the heat of tears wanting to let loose. But I somehow reigned in my emotions and came to where my car was parked. I placed my hands on the hood and hung my head. My breaths were coming out in heavy pants. I... I don't like the things I said. They were brutal. I didn't really mean them. And the look Carolyn sported when I was spewing all that? It was like a javelin stabbing right through my soul. 'You're a better person, Oli. It's okay. We all lose our shit. You didn't mean it.' My wolf whispered to me. But it didn't stop the feeling I was feeling. I shouldn't have said that. I'm indeed a better person. Carolyn is a better person too. She's just a little dumb. 'Little dumb? She's vulgar. I never wanted you to become friends with her, remember. You saw why.' My wolf sniggered. 'Now be cool and stop feeling like yo

  • Rise Above Rejection   Chapter 61

61 Carolyn's POVThe second the words left my mouth, Rafael staggered. His hold on my arm loosened and he moved backwards, assessing me from head to toe."I... I d-didn't intend to do it. I-it—" "You did it! You!!!" My heart took off in a sprint, rattling around in my rib-cage like a wild animal as Rafael scoffed that. His voice was full of malice and disgust. The way he said 'you' it was as though he was referring to a pig that just took a dip in a pool of shít. I lowered my eyes to the floor and nodded quietly. "I can't believe it. It's you!" He spat again. My eyes were burning and my skin was scorching under the heat of his impending madness. Since it was utterly silent, I dared to raise my head and my heart yelped in dread. Rafael was looking at me with that tilted head scary look you see psychopaths giving before committing a murder. I know I shouldn't say anything. The guy was wounded, wronged and became everyone's favorite topic for gossip. But my heart, my guilty throbbi

  • Rise Above Rejection   Chapter 60

60Rafael's POV I recalled being taken away. The Luna's slap and crazy screaming. Accusing me of defaming her. The Alpha's futile attempts to let me get away. But she didn't listen to anyone. She demanded severe punishment for me, and since I was the Alpha's bastard, she demanded a special body of Elders to do it since she was doubtful Alpha Anthony might be partial. They punished me with four days of detention in the dungeons. I knew that wasn't all because that very evening, the Luna's guard brought two leering soldiers to my cell. I dipped my head to take in the fainting bruises on my skin. They did all this painting on my body. I don't even remember the number of tools they used on me. From a baseball bat to a crowbar, iron rod to barbed metal clubs... They used all the tools on me. The first two days were brutal. I didn't cry in their presence while they were unleashing hell on me, but deep inside I was drying every second. My body pleaded for death until it became so numb th

  • Rise Above Rejection   Chapter 59

Chapter 59Carolyn's POV I gulped a knot of anxiety down my throat as Pansy basked in the sight of my appearance. “Heard Rafael has been thrown in the dungeons after two long days of heavy torture." She said with a wince. "I also heard the Luna never gets rid of her grudge easily. So the poor guy is in for a brutal ride down to hell.""And whose fault is that?" Naomi didn't look up from her nails. "A certain heavy weighted blob, who doesn't even know how to differentiate between a friend and a foe." Pansy tutted. "If I were you," Naomi crossed one leg over the other as her eyes came to me. "I would've already packed my stuff and disappeared." "Indeed. You think after the hell Rafael's living through, he won't come to catch whoever raised this hell for him?" My stomach dropped in dread. I didn't reply though. I just got back on my feet and exited the cafeteria. On my way out, I heard people talk about the ràpe rumors. "That's probably a rumor.""But what if it's true? You know,
