Levi’s POV“How long do you think she’s going to be knocked out for?” Kenji asks, pacing back and forth in our sparse living room, worry written on his face.“She used a lot of power on that spell.” I run my fingers through my hair. “It’s hard to tell how quickly she’ll be able to recharge after something like that.”“You both better hope that my daughter comes out of this okay or you’ll know the wraith of a mother.” Luna Aiyana glares at us from her seat across the living room, Alpha Kai holding her tightly at his side. Mostly for comfort, but I suspect to prevent her from attacking me or the Lycan King. She wouldn’t be able to do much damage to either of us, as I’m sure the Alpha has realized, but it would cause quite the issue if she attacked her King. Kenji stops his pacing to stare at the Luna seated on one of the couches. “You have never shown much concern for your daughter in the time that I have known you both, so don’t pretend to start now.” He growls out, turning his back
Kenji’s POV “Maybe Damballa can finish telling us the story of his Realm while we wait.” Now that I know that Jamari has awakened I can finally relax for a moment. I plop myself on one of the dainty chairs that Levi chose to decorate our living room with, letting out a relieved sigh. The tension in my muscles begin to leave as I let myself sink deeper into the tiny chair. “You were able to hear Damballa as he spoke to me?” Levi takes his seat on the couch, elbows resting on his knees as he leans forward, surprise written in his features. My brows furrow at his question. Was I not supposed to hear the Demon speaking to Levi? Running my fingers through my hair, I pull one of my long legs over the other, searching for comfort in this Goddess awful chair. What was Levi thinking when he bought this monstrosity? “I heard the whole conversation clear as if you were both speaking out loud.” I tell him, shifting in my seat. “I thought Demons didn’t have a second identity like wolves.” I
Levi’s POVDamballa’s story about a Realm for the witches and his deal with the Ruler of Purgatory has created more questions that need answering. My mind is still reeling from the fact that our demons are separate beings that live within us just like the wolves. And those beings are former living creatures? This is all too much to take in. ‘Is that how all those in the Demon Realm get their Demons? From souls trapped in Purgatory?’ Kenji asks Damballa, fascinated by the history of everything he was told. ‘No, not all sssubjectsss in the Demon Realm get an inner Demon like Levi here.’ Damballa tells us. ‘Only thossse born from the original Demonsss bloodlines recccieve an inner Demon sssuch asss me, but even then, they are usssually previousss Demonsss that passed before them. Levi isss the exception in that he got a God asss hisss Demon.’‘That all sounds really complicated.’ Kenji says, running his fingers through his hair. It does sound a bit complicated, even to someone that was
Levi’s POVAll of the pieces of the puzzle are finally fitting into place and making sense. Why else would my mother try to unlock the Fae Realm for thousands of years? She must be trying to release her people from their imprisonment. It would explain a lot about me and the powers that I have that are uncommon in Demons. But how has she kept this a secret from everyone for so long? She was with God for a century and then with my father for longer than that. How could she hide her true identity from him and all of his subjects? That is the only piece of the puzzle that I haven’t quite figured out yet. After running these thoughts through my head over and over again, I decide to share my thoughts with Jamari and Kenji. It feels so freeing to be able to share my burdens with others without the fear of being seen as weak. Being the King of the Demon Realm means always being strong no matter what. But now…Now I have others I can share my burdens with. A family that can help lighten the l
Kenji’s POVJamari reaches over and grabs Levi’s outstretched hands. A rush of power moves from Levi, into Jamari, and then back into Levi as their hands connect. Leaning forward to get a better view, I watch as Jamari’s eyes close. Within moments, Jamari’s breathing becomes erratic, her chest moving up and down in fast movements. Reaching out I place my hand over Jamari and Levi’s joined hands in the hopes of soothing Jamari’s frantic emotions. The tension in Jamari’s body begins to slowly ease away, her breathing becoming less erratic before leveling out to normal. Leaning back in my spot, I watch her closely as I wait for her to do whatever it is that they are up to. ‘Feel so useless.’ Ren grumbles through my mind, sinking to the floor, laying his head on his paws, a whimper filling the empty space. A deep sigh moves past my lips at his words, those same feelings plaguing me as well. Enhanced strength, speed, and senses is great when dealing with those in the Human Realm, bu
Jamari’s POVA woman suddenly appears within the darkness, her hips swaying from side to side as she walks towards us. “Well well well…” She purrs, getting closer to us by the moment. Damballa freezes in his spot when he notices the woman that just entered. “Looks like that woman was right about you, dear husband.” She stops a few feet away from us, her hand resting on her generous hip. “Nehmetawy.” Damballa whispers.Shit! Wasn’t that the name of the woman from Damballa’s story? His wife that betrayed him all of those years ago and caused the destruction of the Witch’s Realm. This is not good!Gathering my power around me, being subtle so the newcomer doesn’t notice, I attempt to pull myself out of Levi’s mind and back to my own body. The woman’s sharp eyes turn in my direction, a laugh bubbling from her lips. “Oh dear, you’re not going anywhere I’m afraid.” A predatory smile spreads across her face as she looks me up and down, disdain clear in her expression. Nehmetawy’s attentio
Nehmetawy’s POVHow dare this mortal woman think to disrespect me like this! And in my own temple too! Long gone are the days of being worshipped by hundreds of thousands of people. The lack of mortal admiration has made the Gods and Goddesses less than the great beings we once were. Those people that Thoth made a deal with said that they would bring back the days of worship and human sacrifice, making the Gods and Goddesses more powerful than they have ever been. I agreed to go along with their plan when Thoth brought it to my attention, but not for the same reasons as him.My eyes travel back to the woman still lying on the floor, her pet wolf stuck beneath a pile of debris from her body hitting one of the pillars in my temple. What is the deal with these two? Why is that woman so hell bent on getting her hands on them? They don’t seem like much to me. I turn my attention to where Damballa sits, collecting himself after he hit the wall of my temple hard, blood drips from open wound
Levi’s POVJamari, Rieka, and Damballa have all been missing for a long time now. The only good thing is that Jamari wasn’t in the air choking for very long. Wherever they went though, it can’t be good. We need to find Jamari as soon as possible before something bad happens to her. I’ve tried searching for them using my powers, but my powers aren’t working in finding Jamari since her body is laying right beside me. A feeling of helplessness washes over me as I try to think of what to do. My mother must be behind this somehow. I know the presence that I felt in my mind wasn’t that of my mothers, but that doesn’t mean that whoever it was isn’t working for her. But why take all three of them? Damalla isn’t any good to my mother, even if she did know about him. I begin to pace the room once more, running my fingers through my hair in frustration. Kenji has been sitting with Jamari wrapped in his arms since I snapped Ren out of his rampage earlier. I pause in my pacing to look over at
