CHAPTER ONE

Marie's POV

It would have been a little better if I wasn't working at the same place with my boyfriend, Callum.

Knowing that you got cheated on, and seeing that you got cheated on are two entirely different things.

Maybe if I'd just heard it, I'd have forgiven Callum, but I caught him with Nancy, another colleague, at the worst possible time and place.

My boyfriend for three years was sleeping with my only friend at work, during their short break time.

I stood at the door of the storage room, my mouth wide open as I looked at them.

“Damn it, Marie, why are you acting like such a creep? You look like you’re going to freak out.” Callum asked the moment they sprang apart.

He was zipping his trousers and tucking his shirt as I watched.

Nancy had only had to lift her skirts and bend over a table. She was arranging her clothes now, completely avoiding my eyes.

“Freak out? I haven't even said anything,” I rasped.

There was a thick lump in my throat and it made speaking quite a task.

“Then maybe you shouldn't be standing there like that,” he went on. “Come on, Marie. Stop being dramatic.”

“I haven't even said anything, you bastard!”

That was it. I was mad enough to lose my cool.

“Listen, whatever you saw here wasn't anything you think it is,” Callum said, waving his hand at me defensively.

He always had his way around with words.

Like the time he borrowed some money from me and never returned it. Or like when he took my newest coat and never brought it back.

Maybe he'd given it to some girl. But I didn't really care.

“Callum,” I breathed, trying to regain my calm even though my hands were trembling badly. “Explain to me why you're fucking Nancy in the storage room during your thirty minutes break at work!”

“Stop shouting,” he whispered.

“Well, Talk.”

“Nancy and I had some errands to run here. We're supposed to be sorting out some items in the storage room,” he said, his hand raking through his hair.

He was really a boy. Maybe I didn't have any business dating a twenty six year old boy who wanted nothing more than to own a few fancy clothes and take nice pictures for I*******m, but I loved him.

“Even a toddler would doubt such a poor lie,” I declared.

I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes now. The lump in my throat only grew bigger and became impossible to ignore.

“Well, if you weren't so insecure and distrusting, you'd have seen that nothing odd was going on here,” he spat maliciously.

That was it.

I was going to lunge at him, rip out his eyes and stuff his mouth with the roughest thing I could find.

The bastard of a boyfriend hadn't just cheated on me, he was calling me stupid for seeing it!

But the manager called.

“Marie, you incompetent bitch! I asked you to grab a bottle of wine and get back here!”

Yeah, Brandon was toxic like that. I didn't take it to heart. I walked off, grabbed the bottle of wine and headed back to my duty, quickly wiping off the line of tear that had stained my left cheek.

My hands were still trembling and the lump was still in my throat.

Usually, I cried into my pillow after an extremely hard day. So maybe I was going to get through my double shifts as a good staff and then get home and yell into my pillow.

Some days, being an orphan who grew up without siblings was the most fucked up thing, and on some days, knowing that your rent had expired and you couldn't repay it yet, was even worse.

But finding your boyfriend cheating with the only girl at work you ever made friends with, was the most fucked up thing ever.

But this was my life and there was no escaping it.

I continued waiting tables for the day.

I was cleaning glasses when the glass doors got pushed open and two men—real men walked in.

That was Ryan Cole, the CEO of Turnip Corp.

This was the first time our bar, as classy as it appeared, was going to host the wealthiest man in Glendale.

This would make Brandon jittery. He would expect us to be at our best behaviors and smile extra wide when we got called to serve his table.

I didn't care. My life was falling apart and my rent had ex

pired.

“Clean the damn cups you slow bitch!” Brandon snapped from behind me.

CHAPTER FIVE Marie's POV If Ryan Cole didn't show up the next day or send people to come for me the next day, I was fucked. My life had just gotten more complicated in the past twenty four hours. Before Ryan Cole, I had a stable job. Brandon was toxic and he hated me, but he let me have my job for over two years. Now that was gone. I was home now. Tired from all the cruelty I'd had to deal with in just one day. The electricity had been disconnected from my room because I hadn't paid up the bill. And I didn't have water running in my apartment. This was classic rock bottom. This was probably the point where people gave up completely. I dropped on my bed, kicked off my shoes and decided it was the best time to cry. But I didn't cry. I just lay staring at the dark ceiling. The only source of light I had in the room was the light from the streets streaming in through the window. Ryan Cole. The man looked like he had stepped out of an exotic magazine. He had everything that w

CHAPTER FOUR Marie's POV Be my Fiancee for one week? That sounded like the kind of things that I read in romance books. You know, stories where the woman agrees, and then she ends up falling in love with the man. This is reality. Things like that don't happen.“Uh, I appreciate whatever it is you're offering, Mr, But I'd rather be behind that counter before Brandon comes at me.”“He wouldn't be stupid enough to do that while you're standing here,” he said with authority.“Please I have other tables to attend to, I'd appreciate it if…”“Two hundred thousand dollars for a week, Marie. You simply have to act like my fiancee and not resist me.”“What are you talking about?”“I mean it. You'll be out of this gutter of a place and—”I pulled my hand away from him in one swift movement and walked off, my face hot from embarrassment. Was it so clear that I was poor?Did he really assume he could just come in here and buy me off?I had a job. A life. A broken heart to nurse back to health

  • Roleplaying with the billionaire    The offer

CHAPTER THREE Marie's POV It was bad enough that I was walking around serving tables with tears threatening to drop off my eyes, and with Brandon constantly cussing me out. I didn't want any more troubles for the day. But Ryan fucking Cole did not stop looking in my direction once he saw me. Brandon came to me as I stood behind the counter preparing the order of a customer.“Listen, girl,” he said in that ugly voice of his, “There's something more important you're going to have to do now.”“I'm preparing an order, Bran. Unless you want some woman screaming down this place, then there's nothing more important than this order I'm preparing.”Brandon was looking at me, his mouth open.“Where did you buy the guts to talk to me that way?”“I'm just saying…”“Don't get into a fight with Brandon now, Marie,” Nancy said from behind. I didn't realize she was back on duty. Right after fucking my boyfriend, she was telling me what to do.“Fuck you! You cheap ass whoring bitch!” I screamed

CHAPTER TWO Chapter TwoRyan Cole “There are very few things I can tolerate, Pete,” I said to my best friend as I leaned into the not-so-soft cushion of the bar we'd found ourselves in.“Just do what the old man wants,” Pete advised. This was like the third time he was advising me to just do what my father wanted. “I can't say you've been helpful with your counsel, Pete.”“I don't see another way out of this,” he maintained. “Is that why you brought me to a cheap bar with tough chairs?” I demanded. Pete genuinely looked amused.“The bar is not cheap and the chairs are not that hard unless you're trying to get too comfortable.”A fat man with tiny red eyes came to our table. He was well dressed.“Good afternoon, gentlemen. Welcome to Quinns Bar. I'm Brandon and I'm happy to serve you,” he said. His smile was too wide. His face was too fat and…Damn it. Everything was pissing me off. “We'll let you know when we want something,” Pete said. The man nodded and walked off. My prob

“You made it to my bedroom, little one,” Ryan Cole growled as we got into the undeniably huge master bedroom in the penthouse.Made it indeed.“First, I'd appreciate it if you stopped calling me ‘little one’ and just refer to me as Marie,” I said. “And second?” He asked, his eyebrow coming up. “And what's it with making it to your bedroom? The arrangement demands that I sleep here anyway.”He walked off from me, stopped at the vanity and started taking off his cufflinks. I stood there watching him, not exactly sure what I was supposed to be doing while I was still in the insanely expensive wedding dress. “Little one sounds like something really…medieval,” I muttered. He walked back to me. “Let's get you out of that dress, little one.”There. He said it again. But I was going to be a good actress who was paid well enough to do her job, and I'll just pretend he didn't coin that nauseous pet name for me. “Fine, help me out of it,” I offered. He came closer, looming over me, his
