EDDY

My father makes the most spontaneous decisions. No wonder it was always difficult to work with him, and he thinks I am still not good enough.

I pulled out another stick from the cigarette pack I had in my other hand. Sighing, I lit it and had drawn a long puff from it when I noticed someone was loitering beside me.

"We just had to board a flight when we had better options," I sighed, leaning back on the wall of the cabin.

I was pissed standing as a family with Freddy, Lola and my father. Freddy was a freaking rival as long as I was concerned, and Lola? an intruder that was going to be done serving her purpose soon. So, I had strolled to a quiet corner to get a smoke or two.

"It's just impossible to please that old man!" I snapped, stomping my feet hard on the ground, pulling my jacket closer, and readjusting my scarf to cover my face.

I drew another long puff from my cigarette, releasing it towards the mass of fog in front of me, my brain suddenly getting weary of the other presence in my space.

I didn't want to turn.

"Get lost," I barked. "You're going to make me lose it."

"Uuhm, I'm sorry, but..."

The voice sounded familiar, but my mind was too busy to figure it out at once.

When I turned, she stopped talking.

"What the hell," I grunted in a low tone.

"Who do you think you are to interrupt my moment?" I turned my body to face hers, dropping the half burnt cigarette stick beside me and crushing it dead under my shoes.

She exhaled deeply, causing me to feel nothing but irritation.

"This isn't intentional. I just thought I could speak with you on something."

A smirk played on my lips, curiosity getting the best part of me.

"Go on!"

"I just thought we could talk about what happened the other day," she hesitated, her breathing short and anxious, her fingers playing against her hair.

"I don't have all day, Lola."

"Look, Eddy," her voice suddenly came up. "I don't know what you heard, but it was certainly not my fault. I promise you, Eddy. I won't jeopardize an opportunity like that. I wouldn't dare you like that." She spoke like the words pricked her tongue, and it made her look even more pathetic. I couldn't bear it.

She was dumber than I thought. I knew what I did. I knew the results I expected, and I know exactly why I went for that, but of course, she was too dumb to read between the lines.

"Get lost. Go away. How is it my fault that you are how you are? You got exactly what you deserved," I tried to keep the perfect expression — Shock. Disappointment.

She just stood there without a single blink, frozen down to her feet.

I don't care. She brought this upon herself, and she had left me with no choice.

"You know what? Maybe, you deserved more than you actually got. I should drag you across the street without clothes. Show the world how much of a good wife you are."

I couldn't keep my cool to the end of it. I glared hard at her like a piece of junk I couldn't wait to discard.

"This is just the beginning, Lola," I dropped coldly. Adjusting the flaps of my jacket, I strolled past her to meet the others in the shade.

I heard her sniffle hard behind me. A smirk stretched across my lips, then it slipped into a smile, but my joy cannot not be complete until she no longer occupies that position in my life.

The day had become brighter, more people filling into the airport with the same excitement and impatience, which was very much different from how much I felt like I was on a noose to be led to somewhere I don't want to be.

Swallowing, I pulled up my sleeve to look at my wrist watch again, hoping that, somehow, we missed the goddamn flight.

It was about seven minutes to our boarding time, and I was sure my father wouldn't allow anything to stop us from taking that flight to Norway.

My chest tightened with all the emotions I was finding very difficult to control, the strong urge to go underwater coming hard at me.

Looking around for a restroom, my eyes fell on a familiar figure, tall, gliding through the crowd while pulling his luggage behind him with that particular urgency of a passenger that was just a minute to missing his flight.

I couldn't believe my eyes, but at the same time, I understood it completely. I'd have been surprised if he didn't show up.

Connor Millow had always been around my wife , like a bee attracted to honey.

Shoving my hands into my pockets, relaxing my shoulders, I waited for him.

I think he had seen me from that distance, but was going to attempt walking past. Connor wasn't stupid though. He knew I'd put him right back in his place if he tried to move funny.

"Doctor Connor. Long time, no see," I smiled at him, my eyes conveying a thousand more messages than my words did.

He exhaled sharply, his breathing hard from the rush of making sure to not miss the flight of his dreams.

"Hi, Eddison," he returned, his fingers fumbling against the handle of the briefcase.

"I didn't know you were taking a flight today," I teased, keeping a straight face to make the punch harder.

His eyes flickered uncomfortably, his expression falling from how much he was struggling to come up with the right words for the moment.

That was very unlike Connor, but I guess he has gone too deep, he didn't even want to deny it anymore.

"Uhm...I am flying with the family," he finally muttered, steadying his stance to face me squarely.

For what seems like the longest five seconds of my life, we stared hard at each other, no words, just energies that clashed and fought to subdue.

"If Lola wasn't flying, I doubt you'd be here," I spoke out, suddenly breaking the silence between us.

"Eddy!" he defended, but his expression fell right back to helplessness.

"You can't even lie to save your pathetic a*s anymore," I giggled threateningly.

"Maybe---," his breathing was hard, "maybe, you should try to stop doing this."

"Maybe, you should tell yourself the truth more," my face hardened with a response.

"This is nothing. I just thought I could support your Freddy," he replied, his best shot at staying neutral, and not excited because he was finally going to get together again with Lola.

"We will be late for the flight," I said, turning around and walking straight ahead.

  • SCORNED BY HIM, DESIRED BY THE THREE   NOT NOW. NOT EVER.

FREDDYI rolled my eyes at the plate of snacks in front of me, sighing at how messy my relationship with my family had become, but having no regrets whatsoever concerning my decision."Everything is wrong here," I muttered, grabbing my glass of water and pouring every single drop down my throat. My father grunted beside me, and Eddy made a tired sound, letting his cutlery slip through his fingers to the plate noisily.I swallowed, pushing the words I had to say back down my throat. My eyes wandered over to where Lola sat, unsettled as usual, her face void of any real emotion. It was almost like she was checking her breathing too, careful not to sniff in the wrong direction.Letting my guards down, I allowed my gaze linger longer on her face, and for some reason, I couldn't help but notice how much of the wrong piece she appeared as on the table — not because I think she wasn't family which was sad enough giving that it had to be Eddy, but because her demeanor made her appear so in eve

  • SCORNED BY HIM, DESIRED BY THE THREE   LIKE THERE WON'T BE ANOTHER TIME

CONNORWhen the door bell rang, I knew it was Lola.I texted her as soon as Eddy left my office yesterday, and she begged me to allow her to come see me today. We agreed on 9:00AM.As I walked to get the door, I glanced at my wristwatch and the time was 8:48AM.I hesitated for a second before opening the door, because I wasn't sure how to face her for an offence we both knew I was guilty of too.Nevertheless, I clicked the door open. Standing before me was a woman, obviously sad and confused, her face long and puffy from probably crying long hours. Not knowing what to say first, I just moved out of the way to allow her inside.Lola walked straight up to a couch and let herself sink in, then she buried her face in her palms, her hair falling all over her arms, depicting a perfect image of a woman who doesn't know what becomes of her.Inhaling slowly, I exhaled loudly."Did you tell Eddy where you were going?"She didn't answer. I let her be. Walking over to the couch opposite where s

  • SCORNED BY HIM, DESIRED BY THE THREE   SHATTERED HOPES

CONNORI had just finished doing the ward rounds for the morning and had sunk into my office chair, ready for my hot cup of tea, but suddenly, I didn't feel like taking anything anymore. The walls of my stomach felt stiff, leaving me wondering if I truly had to go to the restroom again barely two hours after the last time I went. But then, I was waiting for a call for one of my patients, and I had a spreadsheet to quickly inspect.Deciding on just water, I settled in to work on my computer. Not too long after, a quick knock broke against my door. Then, Claire came in with her hands hanging like they normally would when there was an emergency. There was this sense of urgency in her expression that made me almost grab my lab coat from the hanger in readiness to attend whatever medical emergency it could be."There's someone asking to see you," she dropped finally, causing me to sit back in my chair disappointedly."C'mon Claire. You're not new to this job. You know my schedule and you

LOLAStanding in line with the others, we waited for chef Clementine as he inspected our designs one after the other."It looks a bit too...I wouldn't say shabby. Maybe, you could concentrate more next time.""Uuuhm...I don't know, but something is definitely wrong with this.""Okay. Great job."I listened to his comments on the works before mine, and it made me wonder what exactly he would say to me.I had been out of it the entire time I designed, my cuttings weren't straight and my line works were just as messy. A part of my icing design was shaky, on the edge of falling.I knew very well why I had turned out like that, and he knew too, but he is probably going to brush it off.I held my breath when he approached mine.Adjusting his apron, he tilted his head to look at my own designed cake sitting pathetically in front of me.My fingers folded inwards beside me."Hmmm...what is your name again?" he asked, but it was very obvious he was putting up an act. He had asked me my name whi

LOLAMy stomach grumbled from not having anything to eat since last night.I wasn't too comfortable to eat from Connor's, and I was too anxious to eat before leaving the house.I thought about ordering a take out, but then, the consequences that would come from Eddy checking my order description and his demeaning words on my body size of two years made me lose my appetite."F*ck it!" I cussed against my breath, making a mental note to visit the closest bakery as soon as I could get a break from the classes."The chef is unusually late today," a blonde woman with a disturbingly heavy make-up sitting in front of me spoke, forcing me to check my own time only to find out that we had been sitting for over an hour waiting for the first lesson of the day.My stomach grumbled more and louder, forcing the skinny woman sitting beside me to give me a dead ass scrutinizing look."I'm sorry. I skipped breakfast," I muttered, staring apologetically in her direction. In response, she shook her head

LOLAI swallowed, closing my eyes to the pain of the moment suddenly ending because of the same thing I had feared.I was back in my room - the room I shared with Eddy, and I was sitting n*ked on the toilet seat, my face pressed hard against my palms when I remembered that I had forgotten my flops

  • SCORNED BY HIM, DESIRED BY THE THREE   I WANT IT MORE

LOLAMy feet hurried across the corridor, past the first room, then the second, and I was standing in front of Eddy's room.My heart was beating faster than it was while I waited for my fate at the breakfast table a while back. Not because I wanted my brother-in-law to touch me again under my husb

LOLAMy fingers felt numb around the glass. I had been holding it for the past thirty minutes, not bothering to taste its content."Stand close to the bar. Don't follow me around."I was standing close to the bar, just overlooking the show in front of me.The room was all golden lights, and string

  • SCORNED BY HIM, DESIRED BY THE THREE   IT WAS GOING TO BE A LONG NIGHT FOR ME. LOLA

Bulky. Too tight. Top part too revealing. To crown it all, I detested red for clothes, but the fitting assistant had called it "stunning" and Eddy had nodded in agreement. Now, standing in the quiet living room of our home in Malibu in that same dress, my body feeling not like mine, I waited for Ed
