MasukChapter 2
~Selena~• I stumbled backward, my legs finally giving out beneath me. I collapsed right there in front of the Alpha, my body hitting the cold stone floor as sobs tore from my throat. I couldn’t hold it in anymore. The pain of the rejection, the betrayal, the humiliation, it all came crashing down at once. “Are you alright?” The Alpha’s voice was deep, concerned even. But I couldn’t answer. I couldn’t form words past the tears choking me. All I could do was cry, my whole body shaking with the force of it. I heard his footsteps beginning to walk away, and something inside me snapped. I forced myself to stand, my legs wobbling beneath me. “You could do a better job training your son!” The words burst out of me before I could stop them. “Maybe then he’d know how to treat people with respect!” The air went completely still. In an instant, cold steel pressed against my throat. One of the Alpha’s guards had moved faster than I could see, her sword already drawn and positioned to kill. I should have been terrified. I should have begged for my life. But I was too broken to care. I kept my eyes on the Alpha, waiting for him to give the order. Waiting for him to defend his son and end me right here. Instead, a small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. “Stand down,” he said quietly to the guard. Then he simply walked away, leaving me standing there with my heart pounding and my whole body trembling. They all left. Just like that. I dragged myself back to my house and to my room, barely making it through the door before I collapsed on my bed. The sobs came harder now, wailing sounds I couldn’t control. Everything hurt. My chest, my heart, my very soul felt like it was being ripped apart. How did I lose him? What did I do wrong? I blamed myself. I must not have been enough. Not pretty enough, not strong enough, not worthy enough to keep my mate’s attention. But even through the self-hatred, rage burned in my chest. Damon would pay for this. Somehow, some way, he would pay. Selena. My wolf’s voice echoed in my mind, weak but fierce. Kyra was suffering just as much as I was, maybe more. She’d lost her mate too. We need revenge, she growled. He hurt us. Rejected us. We can’t let this stand. “I know,” I whispered into my pillow. “But how? I’m helpless. I’m nothing compared to them.” Seek the Alpha. I froze. “What?” The Alpha. He has a soft spot for us. I saw how he looked at you. How he smiled. “That’s insane,” I said aloud, sitting up and wiping at my tears. “He’s the Alpha. Damon’s father. He’d never—” Think about it, Kyra pressed. What would hurt Damon more than anything? What would make Serena die of jealousy? My mind started racing despite myself. It was crazy. Absolutely insane. Of all the people in this pack, the one person I should never even think about was Alpha Lucien. But the more I thought about it, the more the idea took root. Damon would be devastated. Humiliated. And Serena cunning, beautiful Serena who always got what she wanted she would lose her mind with jealousy. “I’ll seduce the Alpha,” I whispered to myself, testing how the words felt. They should have sounded ridiculous. Instead, they sounded like power. Like control. “I’ll make Damon regret everything.” I tried catching sleep but my throat felt dry. I want to manage but I couldn’t so I stood up and went inside the living room. The moment I got to the sitting room, I saw Serena. lounging on the couch like she owned the place, looking completely unbothered. When our eyes met, something in me snapped. I launched myself at her. “You backstabbing witch!” I screamed, my hands reaching for her hair. “How could you? How could you do this to me?” “Get off me!” Serena shrieked, trying to shove me away. “You’re insane!” We crashed to the floor, a tangle of limbs and fury. I’d never fought my sister before, but right now I wanted to hurt her the way she’d hurt me. “Girls! Girls, come on!” Our younger brother Evan rushed in, trying to pull us apart. “Can’t we solve this with words? Maybe a friendly game of….” “STAY OUT OF IT!” Serena and I screamed at him in perfect unison. Evan jumped back, his hands raised. “Okay! Okay! I’m just trying to help!” “Enough!” Our parents’ voices rang through the house. Mom and Dad stood in the doorway, still in their travel clothes, staring at the chaos before them. “What is going on here?” Dad demanded. “Selena attacked me!” Serena immediately played the victim, her voice trembling. “She’s being completely unreasonable!” “Selena.” Mom’s voice was gentle but firm. “Calm down, sweetheart. We know Serena must have caused this. Whatever happened, just take a breath and….” But I couldn’t. I couldn’t stand there and explain how my twin sister had slept with my mate. How she’d destroyed everything. The words wouldn’t come. So I ran to my room and slammed the door, tears streaming down my face again. “I deserve an apology!” Evan yelled from downstairs. “I was just trying to help!” ----- The next morning, I dressed carefully. I chose a simple training outfit that hugged my curves just enough to be noticeable. If I was going to do this, if I was really going to seduce the Alpha I needed to start now. I made my way to the pack training grounds, my heart pounding. I wasn’t sure if the Alpha would even be there, but I had to try. The training session was already underway when I arrived. Warriors sparred in pairs while the head trainer barked orders. I scanned the crowd, searching for that commanding presence, but I didn’t see him. My shoulders slumped with disappointment. As the session ended and people started to disperse, I turned to leave. “Selena.” I froze. That voice. I turned to find Damon walking toward me, a smirk on his face. Around us, people started whispering. I could hear fragments of their conversations. “Isn’t that the girl Damon rejected?” “I heard her own sister….” “Poor thing, how embarrassing.” “Did you come here to see me?” Damon asked loudly enough for everyone to hear. His tone was mocking, cruel. “I thought I made myself clear yesterday.” The pain in my chest flared again, but I pushed it down. I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. “Go to hell,” I said quietly. His expression darkened. “Watch your mouth. You’re nothing now, Selena. No mate, no status, nothing. You should be grateful I even acknowledge your existence.” He stepped closer, his voice dropping. “You’re pathetic.” I hissed at him, actually hissed and turned to run. And crashed, once again, into a solid chest. But this time, I recognized the scent immediately. Pine and earth and pure power. The Alpha. I stumbled back quickly, my face flushing. “I…. I’m so sorry, Alpha. I wasn’t watching where I was going.” “It’s alright,” he said, his deep voice washing over me. He glanced past me at Damon, something unreadable flashing in his eyes, before returning his attention to me. “No harm done.” He started to walk away, and panic seized me. This was my chance. Maybe my only chance. “Wait!” I called out. He stopped and turned back, one eyebrow raised. “I wanted to apologize,” I said quickly, stepping forward. “For what I said yesterday. About… about your son. It was disrespectful and out of line.” I looked up at him through my lashes, my heart racing. “Is there any way I could show my gratitude? For your forgiveness?” Something shifted in his expression. His eyes lingered on me, really looked at me in a way that made my skin heat. For a moment, I worried he was going to order my execution after all. Then his expression softened slightly. “Do you truly wish to show your gratitude?” he asked, his voice low. “Yes,” I breathed. “I would like to.” The Alpha studied me for a long moment. Around us, the training grounds had gone completely silent. Everyone was watching. Finally, he spoke. “Don’t worry about it. You’re forgiven.” Then he turned and walked away, leaving me standing there with my mouth slightly open and my plan already in motion.Chapter 26SelenaI watched Damon disappear through the glass doors with his shoulders tight and his pride in tatters, and I couldn’t help the small chuckle that escaped me.He’d planned so carefully, had set everything up so precisely, and it had fallen apart so completely that he couldn’t even understand how.I turned back to Lucien and smoothed my expression into something more appropriate.“I owe you an apology,” I said, keeping my voice soft and slightly sheepish. “For earlier tonight, the way I was behaving was strange and unprofessional and I’m sorry for that.”“You don’t need to apologize,” Lucien said, studying me with those sharp eyes. “You said you hit your head and needed rest.”“I did,” I said carefully, “and I think it affected me more than I realized.”“After a fall like that, you shouldn’t have even come tonight,” Lucien said, and the genuine concern in his voice made my chest warm. “You should have called me and told me what happened.”I blinked, genuinely surprised.
Chapter 25LucienThe contract signing with Alpha Kieran went smoothly and quickly, and we shook hands firmly as his representatives collected the signed documents.“This alliance will serve both our packs well,” Kieran said with a satisfied nod.“Agreed,” I replied, already moving toward the door.I had a question that needed answering, and I needed to find Selena immediately.I was barely three steps out of the signing room when Damon appeared in front of me, stepping directly into my path.“Father,” he said. “I need to show you something.”“Not now, Damon,” I said, trying to move around him.“It’s about Selena,” he said.I stopped.“Five minutes,” Damon said, and there was something in his voice—a barely concealed eagerness that immediately made me suspicious of his motives. “Just come with me and see for yourself what she actually thinks of you, and then you can decide if she’s still worth your time.”I studied my son’s face for a moment, weighing my options, and then I decided th
Chapter 24SelenaAfter what felt like forever of banging and screaming into the empty darkness, my fist finally connected with Serena’s window at the right angle and the glass cracked and gave way.I used Serena’s pillow to clear the sharp edges, then looked down at the drop below. It wasn’t too far—maybe eight feet to the side yard—and I’d climbed worse when we were children sneaking out past curfew.I grabbed Serena’s clothes from the styling rack her stylist had left behind—a fitted silver dress that was nothing like my gown but would have to do—and changed quickly, then lowered myself through the window and dropped to the ground below. My ankles protested the impact but I didn’t stop, and I was already moving around the side of the house and onto the street before the pain even registered.I pulled out my phone and called Chelsea. She picked up on the first ring. “How’re you?”“Chelsea, listen to me carefully,” I said, already walking fast. “Serena knocked me out and locked me in
Chapter 23LucienI stared at her, my mind racing with suspicion, and I was about to demand an answer when I felt a familiar presence at my elbow.“Alpha.” Rowan’s voice was low and discreet beside me. “I apologize for the interruption, but Alpha Kieran is ready to sign the final contracts and he’s asking for you specifically—he won’t sign without your presence.”I held up one finger without looking at Rowan. “Give me a minute.”Rowan stepped back discreetly.I turned back to the woman beside me, studying her face carefully and looking for something I couldn’t quite name. She looked exactly like Selena, every feature, every curve, every detail of the gown perfectly in place—and yet something kept nagging at the back of my mind, a whisper I couldn’t ignore. But then she tilted her head and looked up at me with those eyes, and the doubt wavered.Maybe I was overthinking this. Maybe the head injury had genuinely affected her behavior, making her more impulsive and erratic than usual.I p
Chapter 22LucienI checked my watch for the fourth time.7:18 PM.Selena was late, and she wasn’t picking up her phone, and the car was waiting outside and the Gala was starting in less than an hour.I stood by the entrance of the mansion, my jaw tight with irritation, and I was just about to tell the driver to go ahead without her when I heard hurried footsteps approaching.Selena appeared around the corner, slightly breathless, her hair perfectly styled and the green gown hugging her body in a way that made my mouth go dry.“Alpha Lucien!” she said brightly, her smile wide and her energy unusually high. “I’m so sorry I’m late…i got a bit caught up getting ready!”I studied her for a moment, something at the back of my mind registering that something felt slightly off, but I dismissed it quickly because she looked absolutely stunning and I couldn’t think clearly when she looked like that.“Let’s go,” I said. “We’re already behind schedule.”During the ride to the venue, Selena was
Chapter 21SelenaI rushed through the front door, my heart already pounding with a bad feeling I couldn’t shake.“Evan!” I called out, heading straight for the living room.Evan appeared from the kitchen, looking completely unbothered. “Hey, you’re home early—”“The dress,” I said, cutting him off. “Where is it? Did you pick it up from Chelsea’s place?”“Yeah, I picked it up hours ago,” Evan said, frowning. “Someone called me and said you dismissed early and needed it brought home urgently, so I went and got it.”My blood ran cold. “I never called you, Evan.”Evan’s face went blank. “What?”“I never told you to pick it up early,” I said slowly, watching the realization dawn on his face. “Someone called you pretending to be me.”Evan’s mouth fell open. “I… I thought it sounded a bit off but I just assumed it was bad reception and…” He looked genuinely horrified. “Selena, I’m so sorry, I never thought it was actually Serena….”“Where is she?” I asked, already heading for the stairs.“
