JIMMY'S POV

I rolled over, rubbing the sleep from my eyes as I heard the knock on my door. "Jimmy, darling, it's time to get up," my mother, Veronica, called out. I tossed off the covers and swung my legs over the side of the bed, padding barefoot to the door. I opened it, and she stood there, her eyes scanning me as if ensuring I was ready for the day.

"Good morning, Mother," I said, my tone neutral. She smiled and handed me a gentle reminder about my classes, her voice laced with a concern that felt more like a habit than genuine worry.

"Your father isn't here, Jimmy, so you need to take care of yourself. Study well, and don't forget about your GPA," she said, her eyes locked on mine. I nodded, acknowledging her words, but my mind was already elsewhere.

"I know, Mother. I'll take care of it," I replied, trying to keep my tone even. She hesitated, as if expecting me to open up or ask for her advice, but I just stood there, waiting for her to leave. After a moment, she nodded and turned to go, her heels clicking on the marble floor as she descended the stairs.

I watched her go, feeling a mix of relief and frustration. Her concern always felt like a thinly veiled attempt to keep me tied to her, to make me dependent on her guidance. I closed the door, my thoughts already turning to the day ahead.

I got ready, grabbing my stuffs and quickly headed downstairs. The sound of my footsteps echoing through the foyer. As I reached the bottom, I spotted Kelvin, my dear stepbrother, standing by the kitchen island, a bag slung over his shoulder.

I raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on my lips. He hated the way I looked at him every time, as if he was a joke, It was satisfying. I knew he was sick of it, but that’s all I wanted him to feel. Anger, rage, fury. That’s all he deserved.

"Off to study some more, I see," I said, my tone dripping with sarcasm. My mother had gossiped about it to me, as if I cared.

Kelvin glanced up, his expression darkened. I continued, poking fun at him. "I guess you got short of knowledge at the company, huh?".

Kelvin's quietness made me want to tease him even more. I enjoyed pushing him to get a rise out of him, but he rarely reacted. I saw him as a joke and loved watching him get angry. When he lost his temper, he became a different person, a beast, and I couldn't help but want to see that side of him unleashed every fucking time.

Memories flooded back to the day Kelvin's mother was shot and killed 11 years ago. He blamed my mom for her death, and his anger that day was uncontrollable. He was arrested and spent a night in jail, at 7 yeas of age. The investigation later revealed that Thomas Parker, a business rival of Montego's, was responsible for the crime.

Parker was sentenced to prison, and fuck his life, his company or his family. I was 5 years then, i only knew a little.

After that time, Kelvin became a cold and distant person, but lately, he seemed to be thawing out. And i didn't want that to happen, I wanted him to remain a beast, that was what he is.

"What?, Cat got your tongue?" I continued, my tone dripping with provocation. I followed him into the dining room, Ma'am Eliza trailing behind with a tray of food, her curious gaze flicking between us.

"When will you grow up? ," Kelvin questioned, keeping his voice calm and even, . His words hitting straight to my face. How I hated when he used this phrase, 'grow up' on me. "you could learn a thing or two from me if you weren't so busy trying to be an ass every time."

My smile disappeared from my face. I looked at him with pure hatred in my eyes. "Shut up," I said, my voice low and dangerous. "You always think you're some big guy." I said, my lips curling up into a sneer "But you're nothing but a joke. A pathetic lunatic." I stated.

Now my grin was forming again. Kelvin's jaw clenched, and he had to restrain himself from punching me right then and there. He took a deep breath, "If you don't watch your mouth," he said, "you'll be sorry." He warned.

"You wouldn't dare," I laughed, but there was a hint of uncertainty in my voice. Of course he could. He could probably chop off my fingers right here and no one could stop him.

He had a reputation for being hot-tempered and unpredictable when he was angry. He was the kind of person who could explode at any moment, and no one knew what he might do. But I, I wasn't scared of him.

Eliza passed me my favorite desserts, Caramel apple.

I sat across the table digging on it. The sweet caramel melted in my mouth as I savored each bite, my eyes locked on Kelvin, who was seething with barely contained anger.

I couldn't help but wonder why he struggled to unleash his temper on me, despite my best efforts to provoke him, every time. I finally threw in the towel and left.

I drove off, and soon I was on campus. As I stepped out of my car, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. I was the king of this school, and everyone knew it. The whispers and admiring glances only added to my confidence.

I strutted into the school, my head held high. Nothing could bring me down from this high. Or so i thought. I saw my friends from a distance, they were chatting amongst themselves and laughing. I hurried to catch up with them. As i hurried towards my friends, i didn't notice the girl in front of me. I collided with her, sending her books and papers flying to the ground.

Oh shit!

My face turned red with anger realizing it is no other than the Dowdy girl. Again. . "You!" I snapped. My voice was cold as ice. "Can't you watch where you're going for once!" I yelled, my voice filled with rage.

"I'm so sorry," she said, scrambling to pick up her things. "I didn't see you there."

My anger grew even stronger. "Of course, you can never see where you're going!" I yelled.

"Just get out!" I shouted, my voice echoing in the empty hallway. "I don't want to see your face again. You're nothing but a nuisance, and I'm sick of dealing with you."

She ran pass my friends and I could swear she was thanking God for saving her life just now.

"What?. Did you three enjoyed the show? Was it so funny ?" I questioned, anger oozing in my voice. Can't believe I was venting my frustration on my friends.

Chris,Dante and Becks had been laughing the whole time, like I was some comedian. They ignored my anger. "This is just like a scene out of a movie, don’t you think?" He laughed.

"Exactly. The clumsy girl bumps into cruel guy, and they always end up falling in love!" Becks chimed in.

"Fuck, You were supposed to catch the girl and not let her fall. That'd be perfect for the movie. " Dante added.

They continued to joke and laugh, completely oblivious to my mood. Their remarks irked me so much. Falling in love, with a girl like this was far from being possible. I would rather not have a heart to love.

They were insane."It's not funny at all," I said, my tone firm."So shut up!"

KELVIN'S POV The night drew on, and the party continued at the mansion. The atmosphere was thick with music and people sipping on their drinks in every corner. And, of course, I'm proud to say that Kelvin has finally gotten his degree and is ready to join the business world properly." The businessmen around us chuckled and echoed the sentiment, offering their congratulations. I smiled, shaking hands and thanking them, but my mind was elsewhere. Where was she, my wife? She hadn't been anywhere insight since we left the church. I excused myself, standing up. "If you'll excuse me, I need to go find Kelly," I said, excusing myself from the group. As I made my way thr

It had been two days since everything went down, and I was still trying to process it all.I was led to the visiting room, and my mom was already there, waiting for me. She smiled, her eyes warm. "Jimmy, my son," she said, her voice soft. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself, but it was no use. The anger, the hurt, the betrayal - it all came flooding back. The faint smile on her face was like a punch to the gut. How could she be smiling? Didn't she know what she had done? I sat down, trying to keep my emotions in check, but it was like trying to hold back a tidal wave. "Why, Mom?" I asked, my voice shaking with rage and hurt. "Why did you do it?"My mom's expression didn't change, her eyes still shining with a cold, calculating glare. "I did it for you, Jimmy. I wanted to give you the best life possible."The words were like a slap in the face. "The best life? You stole from Dad, from Kelvin's mom.

I took a seat, my eyes scanned the room, finally landing on Veronica. She was smiling and laughing with the guest, oblivious to the storm that was about to hit her. I stood up, my eyes locked on her. My father, seated beside me, placed a hand on my arm, his eyes questioning what I was about to do. I gave him a reassuring nod. The music stopped, and I stepped forward, my voice ringing out across the room. "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for gathering here tonight to pay your respects to my mother. But I think it

The atmosphere was already electric, with sleek cars and rich-looking people milling about. Anna smiled and took my arm, leading me inside. "I've planned something that will take care of Kevin, that'd eliminate him from the company. But not tonight."I raised an eyebrow, impressed. "Hmm, that's good news, Mom."
