Chapter 2

From the car where she sat, Amelia glanced at the young man, who tapped on the steering of his Rolls-Royce Sweptali, smiling widely and swinging his body to the music that blared from his music player.

For some reasons she couldn't decipher, his car window glasses were rolled down in such a way that people outside would catch a little glimpse of him.

He had designers sunshades on and everything about him smelt of wealth and class.

He looked young, vibrant and fulfilled. Not only that, he just got a deal worth over two million dollars.

“Dear car, I love you, but I guess I need a change”, Alexander said to his car and broke into loud laughter.

He had just purchased the car some months ago, but he was beginning to get tired of it. The car was worth thirteen million dollars and that was only a tip of an iceberg, compared to what he had laying in his account.

The traffic suddenly heightened and all the cars came to an abrupt stop.

Amelia observed how many people stared at his car and got lost in sight of it, together with people walking who took a pause to wish they could own a ride like his.

With the little thing Amelia noted from his appearance, she was certain that he was living an ultimate life.

“What the hell is this traffic for?” Alexander asked in exasperation and slowly gazed out of the driver side window.

He poked his head out of the window, in a bid to catch a glimpse of the reason for the unusual traffic.

A loud hiss escaped his lips when he couldn’t place his hands on anything tangible. He was at the verge of rolling up the window when he caught sight of something.

Someone in a car parked next to him rolled down the passenger side window as though they wanted to talk to him.

He scrunched his brows in confusion, wondering if he was only making fake conclusions.

And then, he saw a face that radiated even though it was night.

He concluded that she was the daughter of a rich man and without having any more thoughts, he rolled up his window.

Amelia gulped down hard when she saw him driving off. For the first time in her life, she wished that one of the numerous scenes she watched in movies would surface in her life. She needed someone to save her, and she wanted that person to be the handsome young man inside the Rolls-Royce.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the loud and baritone voice of the man who was still driving.

“I understand that you are exhausted. I wonder what could be the reason for the traffic”, he said and sighed deeply.

Amelia remained mute and that was when something struck her brain.

Traffic…

She quickly sat up, staring at the man, whose gaze was focused on the road. She darted her eyes to the right and caught sight of the car she had seen earlier. It was now a distance away.

“Run!” That was the only voice she heard in her head. She closed her eyes for a second, taking in quick breaths and getting ready to try something she never thought she would in her life.

Just before the car moved forward, she leapt out of it and took to her heels.

Alexander’s car screeched and came to a stop after his eyes met a hand furiously tapping on his driver side window.

He looked back immediately and saw the lady he had earlier seen inside the car. On the other hand, the car was swerving around and trying to catch up with her in the traffic.

Amelia kept running, looking back at intervals and hoping that she wasn’t chased by the man. She was certain that he couldn’t run, but she would rather not think that he had no other plans or options.

Her eyes were transfixed on the Rolls-Royce that was now standing still. The traffic was fierce again and all the cars had come to another stop.

She looked back and saw that everywhere looked quiet, apart from the unnecessary honking coming from impatient drivers.

Amelia stopped running when she approached the car for a second time. It was an expensive car, and she only hoped that the owner would have a nice heart.

“Please, help me!” Emily banged her hands on the window the moment she got to the car.

She was breathing heavily and swiftly looking around. That old man back there was too serious with her. He would never let her go without a fight, and she knew it.

“Help me! Please”, she shouted again, tapping the window and hoping that the person inside would bless her with a gaze.

Alexander was shocked to his bones as he glanced at the beautiful lady who was pleading for help.

Inasmuch as he wanted to help and know what the problem was, he would rather not do that at the expense of his reputation and social status.

At this, he returned his gaze to the road, hoping that the traffic would clear off soon enough. He needed to get away from the strange, beautiful lady who smelt like trouble.

His car was tinted, and this made it difficult for Amelia to ascertain if he stared at her for a second. She was losing hope at this point because her dream of getting saved by this young man was beginning to get blurry.

“Please”, she muttered with the last strength she could find, and she looked back to see two men clad in black suit, hastily walking towards her.

“If you don’t help me, they would take me”, Amelia said and finally, resigned to fate.

The strange man inside the car was never going to help her. She sighed deeply as every urge to run swirled out of her heart.

“This is my fate”, she said in finality, and decided to wait for the two men.

Alexander had made up his mind to leave, but had to rethink when he saw two men approaching her.

“This doesn’t look good, and it doesn’t look bad either”, he said with a scoff and finally rolled down his side window.

“Get in, hurry!” He said to Amelia, who couldn’t believe her ears.

She opened the car door and hopped into it, looking back at the two men who suddenly stopped in their tracks.

“Thank you”, she muttered and breathe out a massive sigh of relief.

“No. Don’t thank me yet. You would see why I said so”, Alexander replied coldly and returned his gaze to the road.
