LOGINMelissa's POV
I gazed down at the rusty silverware in my hands, and a gut–wrenching pain shot through my chest. Next thing I knew... a teardrop pricked the corner of my eye. This was it. My death sentence. I knew I was destined to die a quick death, but I didn't expect it to be so soon. “Player 101, step out of the box at once," The system said, its voice hinting at annoyance. Letting out a deep breathe, I stepped out of the box. My steps were shaky as I walked into a flight of laughter. It was the players, their gaze fixated on me, as they rejoiced over my failure. “It's safe to say, we know who is dying first," One of the other players said between fits of laughter. She was a pretty blonde with sparkling green eyes, and perfect features. Her eyes were watering from her intense laughter. “It's such a pity, but I'd rather it be her than the rest of us. After all we need pretty faces to keep the game interesting," another chimed in. I rolled my eyes, my lips narrowing into a thin line as I turned away from them only to be confronted by more stupid floating text. “OMG! Player 2 is such a sweet soul. She smartly put that smug witch in her place," Mrj2004 commented. “You can say that again Mrj2004, player 101 is trash and should be treated as such. I can't wait for the game to begin already so we can get rid of that witch already," Nelly34 wrote. I let out a cold, contentious laugh. I wasn't surprised. This world– like most was controlled by beauty standards, and influence. They were willing to fawn over that bully cause she was as cute as a doll. And as for me– I could burn for all they care cause I was not nearly as pretty. I don't blame them though... That is just the pattern of life. Who cares? I am done letting people get to me. Taking in a sharp breath, I turned to the sparkling ball of light, and said something that made the other contestants tremble. “Hey, dumbass," I called out, my voice filled with impatience. Just then a loud gasp ran across the room, all eyes drifting to me with curiosity, and disgust. “Are you referring to me human?" The system's cold voice echoed. Its tone hinting at confusion. “Yeah! duh!" I said, nonchalantly rolling my eyes. “Open the door already so I can take this trashy trinket for a test run." The room fell silent as the words concluded from my lips. The confused stares of onlookers, growing ever so slightly. An air of suffocating tension loomed over our heads. Then suddenly came a hellish laugh which scattered the peace. “I see you are in a hurry to die. I like that," The system giggled. I didn't flinch. Instead I fixated on the glittering ball, my face expressionless. “Very well then, you may leave," The system shrugged, and just then a gigantic portal opened up at one end of the room. It's bright, white light threatening to blind me. “You have two minutes to exit the bunker, or die," The system announced, and the room immediately plunged into chaos. “Way to make things more dramatic systems," I snarled with an unimpressed sigh. Quickly, the players began jumping in one by one. I on the other hand was in no such hurry. I'd prefer they survey the environment for me. A couple of seconds later the room was almost empty, with just a few players standing idle at the side. I strutted towards the entrance, ready to jump in, when he resurfaced. My arrogant savior. His mask was gone now, revealing his dazzling face. He had a lollipop clenched between his perfectly white teeth, his monstrous weapon resting on his right shoulder. With his killer looks, weapon, and face he could easily pass for a male lead in a dark fantasy novel. He brushed past me, whispering the words. “Perfect weapon choice princess," To most women that might sound like a compliment. But not me... I knew better. He was insulting me– Telling me that my choices were pathetic. A wave of anger coursed through me. I clenched my fist, ready to give him a piece of my mind, only to turn and find nothing. He left, he irritated me and ran off. Well... I wasn't going to let him off the hook this time. Letting out a sharp breath. I braced myself, jumping legs first. A blinding light hit my face, followed by a loud roar. When I opened my eyes again, I was back in that dark street. As expected all the players stood rooted in place. Their eyes twitching like they had spotted something scary, probably the monster from before. My heart skipped at that revelation. Stiffly I turned my neck to the direction of their eyes, only to come face to face with a scene that almost caused my eyes to fall off. There they were, a dozen or so half wolf– half owl creature, with human like nose, ears and limbs. Their large red eyes fixated on us with unblinking gaze.. Their large, white, sharp gleamed in the dim lighting. They stormed their tiny human legs against the marble, leaving behind patches of pus. They let out a loud roar as though trying to communicate with one another. Their breath smelled of decayed meat, and a metallic scent of blood. That was when I heard it– there was a deep, drawl, masculine voice in my head. “Prepare to be our dinner, Humans," The voice said nonchalantly. A cold sweat broke on my forehead. I looked up, my eyes locking onto the largest of the Devourers. It had this predatory look on its face, like it was trying to establish its dominance. I glanced around confused, worried. ‘Was I the only one hearing that voice?'– I wondered but before I could even conclude, the heartthrob from earlier stepped forward, his magnificent hammer clutched in his grasp. “Stand back. I will handle this," He announced, his steady voice like a lifeline for us. After all he was number 1 for a reason. “You got this Tyler," Another player chatted, that was when I knew what his name was. “Tyler" a beautiful melody. The type of name a male would have. A small smile tugged at the side of my lips. My heart was still racing but there was this assurance that came with his intimidating presence. Tyler stood before the biggest of the Devourers, raised his hammer and spoke. “Hear me, demon. Tonight I'll put an end to..." Before he could conclude his head was chopped clean off.MELISSA'S POV “Player 68 has been eliminated," the system's voice cut through my daze. The earth rumbled beneath me, a deafening growl that sent my heart racing. The worm burst from the ground, its massive body writhing like a living whip.Screams pierced the air as players scattered, their feet pounding the dirt. A player tumbled to the ground, his legs tangled in a mess of vines. The worm's jaws yawned wide, a dark cavern of death, and swallowed him whole. As though the other players weren't scared enough, now their hairs were practically turning white with fear.A handful of them ran towards the same direction, they slipped, falling on each other like a school of sardines in a can.I tried to scream, to run, but my legs felt leaden, stuck in place. Finally, I summoned enough courage but the moment I took a step forward— the ground trembled and I fell face first in the dirt.I crashed heavily against the sandy ground.A loud thud echoed as my forehead collided with a small rock.B
MELISSA'S POV Player 37 was death? How? cause he ate an apple?Damn, this game truly was getting scarier.A loud scream pierced through the arena— followed by francy of running players. My heart stopped for a moment as I slowly took in the entire situation. The player who had just consumed the poisoned fruit slumped to the ground— his body decaying rapidly. In under seconds he was nothing but sand and bones, his body merging perfectly with the soil like it was meant to be here. In that moment I forgot to breathe, fear gripped my heart like a heavy iron chain.I should have ran, but unfortunately I was paralyzed by fear, and apparently I wasn't the only one experiencing that. Even Zoe the usually cool, composed goddess was on her knees, shaking like a leave. Her face was tears streaked and she was as pale as a ghost. Gavin stepped forward, pulling his soulcutter from his pocket dimension.“Every stand still, this place isn't save," his voice cut through the chaos. Everyone as t
MELISSA'S POV I stepped into the pitch black portal— a suffocating type of fear literally surfaced in my throat. My mind raced with possible scenarios. What was I to expect?Man eating trees?A zombie apocalypse?A dead trap dessert?I couldn't tell, but one thing was setting, I was so not going to like it.I squeezed my eyelids tightly, my heart threatening to leap out of my throat.I gulped down a world of saliva, as I awaited the inevitable but to my surprise when I opened my eyes, I wasn't in hell.If anything I was Heaven. My eyes widened in shock as I gazed upon the marvel before me.It was sincerely the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.We were in the middle of a massive forest, more like a type of spacious garden— since there were more flowers than trees. Surprisingly, the flowers here were oddly familiar, we had; Lilies, ivies, roses, sun flowers, hibiscus, basically any flower one could imagine and more. The air was heavy with the soft fragrance of flowers and damp ea
MELISSA'S POVThe air was packed with a suffocating type of silence that made one's scalp tingle. Each player was stiff, unable to process the sick prank that played in their ear drums. A large white portal appeared before us, but the horrors of the game had already done it's job by scaring the players into paralysis.I glanced into the portal and what I saw made my blood freeze. This particular portal was different. It was bright like the other. It was calming— it was pain numbingly frightening. The portal was pit black. Looking deeper I could faintly make out the figure of rusty weapons, and decayed carcasses, not those of animals. They were of humans, players to be exact— the tattoo on their half rotten flesh said that much. That was when I realized it— I was freezing literally, my teeth were chattering and a trail of goosebumps had surfaced all over. My heart slammed violently against my ribs that it felt like my ribs were about to break any moment now. Then the system's
MELISSA'S POV Sylvia wobbled towards me, practically hopping like a kangaroo.I glanced down and froze at the sight before me. Sylvia was standing on one leg, her left leg visibly chopped at the knee off— leaving behind a patch of clotted blood and bones. The point of dissection was characterized by torn chunks of flesh. Obviously cut out my a blunt weapon. My heart stopped. I bolted towards her, my mind filled with panic. “Sylvia what happened?" I asked, scanning the point of injury. My heart hurting as though I'd be stuck straight in the heart. Sylvia's lips curved into a visibly forced smile. “Oh this?" she waved it off casually like it was some minor scratch. “Punish, we lost and apparently the group decided I was the most expendable player."Her words were straight forward, but they didn't sit well with me one bit. What was the meaning of most expendable? And did that have to do with her leg being chopped off? I shook my head, trying to narrow my thoughts. “What do y
MELISSA'S POV The arena fell deadly silent, leaving behind only the sound of our racing hearts and heavy breathing. The air was heavy with tension. The atmosphere suffocating with unease.Gavin and I stood at a stand still, his jaw clutched with annoyance.I too was furious— balling so had on my fist so hard my knuckles turned white. My body trembling ever so slightly.I opened my mouth, ready to curse Gavin out further when “DING!"A sharp chime cut through the air.“[SYSTEM ANNOUNCEMENT]”“[CAPTURE THE FLAG GAME COMPLETED]"“[SURVIVORS CONFIRMED]”“[WINNING TEAMS: 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, AND 11]“[REWARDS OBTAINED…]**Immediately a warm, soothing golden light descended around us— engulfing us in one go.Instantly my wounds were gone. They vanished without a trace, as though they were never there to begin with. All the pain fading instantaneously .Screens flickered before my eyes.“[REWARD: HEALING POTION ×1]”“[BONUS: +15 AGILITY POINTS, 1 PICNIC PACKED MEAL, 1 WILDERNESS SURVIVAL PACK
THIRD PERSON'S POV Gavin's palms were sweating. His heart raced like a cattle wheeled into a slaughter house. He was nervous— no, more than nervous, he was scared. He was scared that she might reject him. This was the first time he had approached a woman directly. Normally with his rank, he w
