Chapter 1

Adam's POV

"Don't forget, Diana. Adam's lifelong dream has always been to start his own exploration team. Now that he's lost an arm, can you bear to—"

My wife, Diana Nelson, cut her doctor friend off without hesitation.

"He's had it easy his whole life! He wanted to marry me, and he did by just sweet-talking my family. Then he went on to make a name for himself in the exploration team.

"But Flynn didn't come from a good background. How could I just stand by and watch him get sent to Nambara?"

Separated by nothing but a door, I could hear the pain in Diana's voice when she spoke about Flynn.

The hallway fell silent for a moment before she finally composed herself. "You're an orthopedic surgeon, but that's not why I came to you. Do me a favor and find a drug that can numb the nerves. I want to make sure Adam's arm never regains any feeling."

Her doctor friend realized there was no talking her out of it and sighed deeply. "As your longtime friend, I'm telling you this because I don't want you to regret it."

Hearing the truth, I broke down in tears.

I didn't know the woman I had loved for six years had been this unwilling to be with me. She was even willing to sacrifice one of my arms just to clear the way for Flynn Cooper's future.

What she didn't know was that the storm had taken more than an arm from me. It took away my ability to have children, too.

A young nurse who had overheard the conversation looked at me with pity.

I numbly shook my head and forced the words out through the pain. "Put the diagnosis in a box for me. She deserves to know."

The nurse wrapped the surgical tissue in gauze. Just as she was about to open the door, Diana walked in. The smell of blood reached her, and she instinctively covered her nose.

Only after the nurse left did she lower her hand. When she saw the tears streaming down my face, she gently came over and wiped them away.

"Oh, Adam. Please don't cry," she said softly. "You might have lost an arm, but you still have me. I'll be your other hand. I will never let you suffer."

Ironically, she was the one who had caused my greatest suffering.

I frantically dug my nails into my right arm, but it was limp and useless, like a slab of dead fish. I couldn't feel a thing.

Diana quickly covered my arm and pulled me into a tight hug. "Stop it, Adam! I promise things will get better!"

If I hadn't overheard what she said in the hallway earlier, I might've been so moved that I would've kissed her. But the truth had found me. The woman I had loved for six years was nothing but a cold-blooded monster.

Just then, Diana's doctor friend came in with a syringe.

I fought desperately to break free from her arms, but she held me tighter. "It's okay. It's okay. The doctor is here to treat you. You'll be better in no time."

Somehow, her gentle voice was completely devoid of warmth.

Like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered, I finally stopped fighting.

Adam's POV"Where's Diana?" Flynn asked.I was just about out of patience. "I have nothing to do with her anymore. Leave me alone."I turned to walk away, but he kept coming after me, backing me toward the edge of a deep excavation pit. He sounded openly defiant."She stopped talking to me after you came to Nambara. How can you say she has nothing to do with you?"I cautiously told him to calm down while inching sideways, trying to create some distance between us. Just as he was about to push me over the edge, Diana rushed in and yanked Flynn away."What the hell are you doing?" she yelled. "As long as I'm around, you're not touching Adam!"The second Flynn saw her, he threw himself into her arms, sobbing dramatically. "I only came to find out where you were. Diana, I've missed you so much…"Since Adam made it clear that he doesn't want you anymore, why can't we just be together? He's not worth it!"Diana shoved him away in disgust and chose to stand on my side. She hurriedly

Adam's POVA bitter, restrained laugh slipped out of Diana. She pointed toward the group inside the private room, where my team members were."You consider these people your friends? I'm your wife. I'm the one who genuinely cares about you!"My wife? How ironic of her to call herself that?Diana looked down on my colleagues, but I had nothing but contempt for her either.I shoved her away, my anger finally boiling over. "You think you're so much better than all of us? Everything you've done makes me sick to my stomach!"With that, I raised my hand and slapped her across the face.It wasn't a particularly hard slap, but it was enough to stun her. Her eyes were red as she stared at me.I had never laid a finger on her. To her, I was always this pathetic man desperate for her love. As long as she didn't shake me off, I would keep following her forever. That was why she never had to worry about losing me. Sadly for her, I wasn't that clingy man anymore. After a long silence, Dian

Adam's POVAfter landing in Nambara, I reached out to the local authorities and spent the next few days settling in. The environment wasn't as harsh as I had imagined. Instead, every corner was filled with wonder. As an exploration geologist, I couldn't wait to throw myself back into work. Even with only one arm, I could still guide the team just as well as before.During dinner, one of my teammates showed me the trending story on his phone. "Captain Henderson, is that you they're talking about in the news back home?"After learning the truth, Diana clutched the diagnosis report and cried her heart out. In that short video, she looked as though she had aged ten years. Maybe she did regret what she had done. She must've realized that if she knew I would lose my reproductive ability, she never would've thought to lay a finger on me. Alas, it was too late.I was disabled, and I could never have children again. No matter how hard she cried, nothing would change.I watched the video

Third-Person POVDiana shoved Flynn away and rubbed her temples, her face flushed with anger. "Who the hell do you think you are? Adam is my husband! He's the only man I want to have a child with!"Flynn couldn't believe his eyes and ears. How did the woman who had once defended him suddenly become so cold?Biting his lip, he put on a wounded expression. "Just admit it, Diana. You love me. If you didn't, you wouldn't have taken my side and mocked Adam with me at the inspection ceremony!"At that, Diana immediately panicked. "What do you mean? Are you telling me that Adam never tried to hurt you?"Without thinking, he blurted out the truth. "How could a cripple possibly hurt me? I just wanted to prove that you loved me—and I was right."She collapsed into her chair.Flynn was right. She should've taken Adam's side. He was too kind a man to have done something like that.Looking back, she realized he had also been injured that day, tears still clinging to the corners of his eyes.

Third-Person POV"We're deeply sorry to hear that your husband has lost his reproductive ability, but are you saying you had no idea this would happen? If you'd known your plan would leave him infertile, would you still have gone through with it?""Now that your husband has gone to Nambara for work, are you willing, as the CEO of Nelson Group, to let him work in such harsh conditions?"The questions kept coming. Before long, the story became the top headline and spread across the internet.Diana no longer had the strength to answer. She couldn't even think straight. For the first time, she contemplated whether she should go looking for Adam.If she found him, how should she even face him? She could barely face herself.Clutching the report, Diana left the venue in a daze. Still holding on to a sliver of hope, she called every friend she could think of. "Find out which city Adam landed in. I need to know his exact location."However, every answer came back the same. "Can't find h

Third-Person POVDiana stared at the box, her heart pounding so hard she could barely breathe. She stepped forward, her brow furrowed. "What did you say? What did Adam find out?"The nurse placed the box on the table and looked at her with contempt. "I heard the conversation in the hospital hallway that day, and so did Mr. Henderson. Honestly, I feel sorry for him for having a wife like you."With one last look of disgust, the nurse turned and walked away.By then, Diana had gone awfully pale. It turned out Adam had found out the truth from the very day of the accident. No wonder he hadn't told her that he had accepted the assignment to Nambara. But life with only one arm would already be difficult for him, let alone working in such harsh conditions. How could he possibly survive in a place like that? That thought sent Diana straight to Julian, her eyes red with panic. "I have to bring Adam back. Please, tell me where he is!"He sighed and shook his head. "The exploration team h
