Something that will benefit me? Right now, all I wanted was to see Sabrina.

"Interesting, right?" Beta Darius pressed, lifting his brows. "This offer is only for the second-chance mate of the Lycan King. You."

My eyes narrowed. Something felt wrong. This could be a trap.

"What are you planning?" I asked, glancing back and forth, ensuring no one would hear us. "You are serving the Lycan King. Offering a proposal against his back is some kind of betrayal. Are you out of your mind?"

"I'm only helping you and the Lycan King."

"Helping me? How? You don't even know me. I don't want any help from somebody. I can handle myself. No offense, Beta Darius."

He looked at me for a long time. "I know you can. That's why you are the perfect candidate for this simple task."

When it comes to the Mad King, there was nothing simple about it.

"Spill the beans."

"You are his mate."

"He was not happy about it."

"That's your challenge. I need someone to save the Lycan King from the madness surrounding him."

"I'm not his savior." Besides, I came here to look for Sabrina. She will be the only one I will save. "Ask some women who loved him. I am certain there are a few of them in the corner."

"Don't you feel sorry for him?" Beta Darius asked.

We turned left.

The servants greeted him, and by the pleasant look on their faces, I could say that they liked Beta Darius more than the Lycan King.

I scoffed.

"Sorry for him? Excuse me for saying this, but are you out of your mind? He is the reason why parents cried for their missing daughters. He is the reason why Father lost his two daughters. The Lycan King whom you are serving with all your life? He is not worth it."

I tried so much not to be swayed by my anger, but I failed. I hate him so much that I want him to suffer for what he did to our pack.

"It wasn't King Elio's fault," Beta Darius said, defending him. As usual.

Looking at him with an angry expression, I said, "Of course, it is not his fault if you will be asked. You love him with all your life. You are blinded by him. You cannot see how evil he is."

"Believe me, but he is not the reason for the women's disappearance. I am still looking for the real culprit. If you listened earlier, you would know it may be because that person wanted to create another fuse between the Lycan King and his people. "

I already knew the people did not love their king, but it was their fear of him which made them follow him.

I fisted on the cloak. "You make me sick for defending him."

"King Elio is a good king."

I rolled my eyes as I let him see. Then stopped. "Did you ask his people if you shared the same opinion?"

He did not answer.

"He is not good. He is mad."

"I can punish you for saying that."

Did I look like it bothered me? No. "Do it. I dare you, Beta Darius."

"You're a feisty one. You will match the Lycan King. The fiery look in your eyes told me you are not someone who would easily give up. I will forget you said the Lycan King is mad. I still need you."

If I gave up, who would save my sister? I promised my father that I would bring Sabrina back to our pack. Safe and sound. I would never return empty-handed.

"If he is a good king, he would never punish our pack. He had already annihilated the group that killed Eva. Why would we continue to suffer for their sins? Why?"

Beta Darius's face hardened. "It's not my story to tell. Only the Lycan King could lift his punishments on your pack."

"Until when we suffer? I don't want my future pups to see how cruel their king is."

"If you succeed, the punishment will be lifted."

"I don't get you, Beta Darius."

"You will when I explain it further. We are here now."

We stopped in the farthest part of the wing and in front of the door, which was decorated with two swords intersecting. It looked sharp and cut easily.

The hallway was empty. It felt like this wing was treated as the forbidden wing.

That would be a good thing for me.

"Will I be sharing anyone's room?"

"You should be. After all, you are now the Lycan King's slave. But you are not his attendant. He did not have anyone. He is technically a loner and does not trust anyone except me."

I faced Beta Darius, my eyebrows meeting. "Why are you telling me about the Lycan King's private matters?"

"Isn't it obvious? I want you to have his heart. Make him fall in love with you. You are the only one capable of doing that because you two are mates. It would be easy for you. Both of your wolves recognized your connections. They would be the ones pulling you towards each other."

Making the Lycan King fall in love with me?

I didn't even know how to seduce men! I was focused on honing myself to become the best fighter to prepare for this day, and I forgot I had a lot of girl's stuff that I missed, such as having tea parties and talking to the other ladies in the pack.

"Why would I do that?"

"In exchange for your freedom."

"I don't want it. I am okay with being a slave."

His face fell.

Beta Darius folded his arms in front of his chest and leaned on the doorway.

"That's a first. Slaves technically want their freedom before anything else."

"Not me. If you don't have to say anything, let me enter inside and see what I can do while the Lycan King will know what he wants to do with me."

"What do you want then?"

"Why do you care, Beta Darius?"

"I'm doing this for King Elio."

"The question is, will he be happy if he found out you are doing this?"

"He won't. But he will understand."

"He won't."

I opened the door, still securing the cloak around me. However, Beta Darius stopped me from doing so.

"We are not yet done."

"We are."

"Tell me what you want."

Sabrina.

My jaws clenched. "I said none, so far.  I will tell you about it if I already think of something. Step aside, will you?"

"Tell me what you want. I insist. You may not fathom the power and authority I possess in this palace, but I can also move mountains, Flora. Just make the Lycan King fall in love so that he will return to his usual self."

"Beta Darius. You tend to forget that the usual self of the Lycan King was a bloodthirsty bastard who killed for pleasure."

"That won't ever happen. Again. This time, I will save him and all the people around him. I don't want him to commit the same mistake over and over again. I saved him once at Howling Pack. I will do it again."

I stared at him for a long time and clapped my hands.

"Wow. Just wow. Such loyalty. I wish I could share the same sentiments, but my judgment of him will never change. The Lycan King is a bastard. A jerk. An asshole. And a lot more."

"He can still redeem himself. You will help him do that."

The Lycan King was beyond redemption. He was a lost cause.

"What made you think I will?"

"We all have one desire in life. And I, Beta Darius, vow to make it happen if you will help me. Do everything to make the Lycan King fall in love with you."

The vow caught my interest. "I have one desire."

Beta Darius's face lit. He stepped forward and leaned closer to me.

"I am correct. Tell me what it is. I will make it happen if you succeed."

Leaning backward, I said, "I will tell you about it if I succeed in making the Lycan King fall for me."

Beta Darius's mouth lifted. "You made the right decision. Whatever that is, consider it done."

I hoped so.

He opened the door for me. "From now on, I will assist you in carrying out your plan. I am expecting a good result, woman. Just tell me about it."

"The first thing you can do for me is gather all the comfortable clothes for me to wear. And a pack doctor, please. Someone should see my wounds."

Beta Darius snapped his fingers. "Your wish is my command, woman. The future Queen of this kingdom."

Future Queen. If that was beside the Mad King, no thank you.

"Flora Hernandez. At least you should know the name of the person whom you are having a business with."

  • Save Me, Lycan King    EPILOGUE

One year later…Something was wrong with me.I had been noticing the changes in my behavior and I did not like it all. I was suddenly grumpy and sick at the same time. Something which made me panic. Elio was attending some business and I could not call him and tell him to come to me.“Your Grace. The sun is already out. You need to move your butt.”I glared at the woman in front of my bed. Candice. One year ago, the Lycan King had assigned Candice as my personal attendant. At first, I rejected the idea, but Elio kept on forcing me to have one. He was always saying that he did not want anything to happen to me again. If that would happen, he was afraid he could not control himself from killing anyone. Another bloodbath will take place, something I did not want to happen.“I’m not feeling well, okay?”“You haven’t eaten your breakfasts.”“Oh, please. I will eat anything if I am feeling well, but I am not.”“Did you eat something yesterday?”“That’s the problem, Candice. I haven’t eaten

  • Save Me, Lycan King    87. Return

Howling PackEli and I finally visited my pack. They prepared a lot and were excited to see us. It was Dad who welcomed us and the alpha beside him. They prepared signs welcoming us.I cannot help but feel giddy at their warm welcome.“We are grateful for your presence, Your Majesty,” the alpha exclaimed while his gaze darted in my direction. We shared a look, and his eyes were back to the Lycan King. I would never go back to the path I had chosen a couple of years ago. That was already a closed chapter of my life. I was no longer an assassin and a killer used by someone else.Later, I will ask for a private talk to the alpha. I want to tell him that I will be the one to tell the Lycan King about my past. I wanted it to tell him directly.“The pleasure is all mine.”Eli’s eyes scanned the surroundings and his eyes darted at the remnants of his fury. Burned buildings. Statues. Withered black trees. The alpha could tear down the burned buildings and replace them with something new, bu

  • Save Me, Lycan King    86. Making Love

One week had passed after that incident. I could say that I was healed already. Iris was making the best of her ability to heal my wounds and broken bones. After a week of bed rest, my body was brand new. “Stay still, Lora,” Eli ordered. He was reading some documents while guarding me. I tried to sneak and go outside, but he caught me and gave me a proper scolding telling me that I nearly died. This was my second life. I should have taken care of this one. No matter how many times I told him that I was already healed from my injuries, he wouldn't believe me. He refused to believe me. Eli filled me out with the details of what happened to Ayla. She was imprisoned behind bars. Rooting in the cold prison. Day and night, she was requesting His Majesty’s presence, asking for his kindness. I felt sorry for Ayla. Sometimes. But when I remembered my sister. Of how she was killed, my hatred changed my pity. Ayla already confessed to all the crimes she had committed and that his accom

85FLORA “LORA” HERNANDEZ Ayla? The fucking bitch was the culprit. Was she the one who also killed the others? Especially my beloved sister? She perfectly blended herself with the other servants. And the innocent she-wolves had no idea that a snake was with them. She smirked when I realized it was none other than her.Ayla clapped her hands like a kid. “Yes. You finally recognized me. I thought we would kill you without you recognizing your killer. Something I don’t want to happen, darling.”Damn.My hair hurts so much. She was pulling it forcefully.“Why are you doing this?” My voice sounded weak. My body felt like it was burning so much.“Simple. I don’t want His Majesty to be happy. He doesn’t deserve to be the king. I realized he valued his servants so much. But I did not understand why. Especially that Sabrina. Oh. I forgot. She was your sister.”I spat in her face. Her angelic smile was replaced with something demonic. “Shit!” She slapped my cheeks continuously until I could

Damn. That statement made sense. I had not made sure that Eli wanted to go there. What if he was indeed forcing himself? To my excitement, I never considered that thing. I was focused on bringing him to the pack without even thinking if he was okay with his decision or not.Still.I should gave Eli the benefit of the doubt. “I-I’m sure…it’s not the case. Eli had already forgiven the pack, wholeheartedly and wanted to give us a chance to show him how much we were sorry for what happened to Eva. He no longer hated us.”Because who in their right mind would visit a place in which he did not want to step foot?‘You better ask Eli about that. To make it clear, Lora.’‘You think I did not think about that? Will you stop bossing me around? It’s irritating, okay?’Besides, it was not only him who was hurting. We also had our own fair share of wounds. But the most important thing of all, we were starting to heal from the past. Noticing the hesitance on my face, Miss Dacianna smiled and decl

  • Save Me, Lycan King    83. Going Back

“You two are leaving?” I jumped, surprised to see Prince Albert suddenly popping out of nowhere. I was about to see Miss Dacianna to do an errand courtesy of His Majesty. Eli wanted me to talk to Dacianna about our plans of going back to Howling Pack so that the woman will be the one to inform the King.I just hoped he would give us his blessings. If not, I did not know anymore. I like that king and it would be better if he gave us his approval.Without thinking about the damage he did to my heart, Prince Albert continued, “Your Grace. I came here right away when I found out about it.”Indeed? But why did Beta Darius tell us that the one who informed him of us stepping down was the Council and this man? Who among them was telling the truth?‘Does it matter?’ Iris asked in my mind. ‘The mere fact that you and His Majesty will be returning to our pack mattered the most.’She was busy licking her paws while watching me.‘Do you think he still remembers?’‘Lora. When will you use your

Eli and I spent the next few hours preparing our things for our departure.Sighing, I gave our chamber a final look. This place had so many memories and I could not help but feel lonely at the thought of me and him leaving.“Wife. Are you done?”I blinked a couple of times and faced him.Grumbling, I muttered, “I don’t understand why we have to pack ourselves. We have servants, Eli.”It was not like I was lazy. It was only because I had no strength to do anything after the thought that we would be leaving the palace had finally sunk into my mind.“They will know I am leaving. It should be a surprise. Finally, I would be leaving them. They will rejoice, you will see.”Pouting I answered, “You sounded sure about it.”“I am certain. They are waiting for another king.” I taste the bitterness in his words. “Why? That bad? Perhaps you are wrong, Eli. Not all of them wanted to leave you. Take Candice for example. That woman is loyal to you.”“Except for her. I am talking about the others.”

  • Save Me, Lycan King    81. Stepping Down

My heart forgot how to breathe. This was what I was scared about. That Prince Albert will finally realize that we two had met before. What to do?I’m afraid I will be the reason why Eli would be ousted from his position as the king.Be calm. You can find a way to get out of the situation, okay? This fool had not realized anything. I must continue pretending that I did not know him.I chuckled. “Why would I be familiar to you? As far as I remember, we never had the chance to have a proper conversation before. Perhaps you are already mistaken, Prince Albert. We did not meet before.”His brows formed a straight line.“Indeed? But I cannot shake off the feeling that you are truly familiar.”I paled. Dammit. His eyes continued to question my statement. "I don't think—"“Nonsense. My wolf had an excellent memory. She will tell me if we meet or not. But right now, all she was saying is that we never encountered each other before.”“Oh, I see.” He bowed at me. “My apologies, Your Grace. I

  • Save Me, Lycan King    80. Have We Meet Before?

It finally dawned on me that Inez died in my arms. However, I could no longer grieve about it since nothing could be done. My mind was already tired. Going back to our chamber, with the warriors on my back, my mind wandered to what had happened. I failed her. A couple of times. I closed my eyes as memories of her eyes continued to haunt me. No matter where I look, I always see the expression in her eyes. Her fear. Her shock. "Lora."I froze on the spot and sniffed the Lycan King's scent as it hit me hard. The warriors disperse upon seeing him. Maybe he ordered them to leave me. After one year, he finally showed up. After someone had already died? What a great timing. If he was not the king, I would think that he was the killer. I'm too tired to get angry at him. It was not worth it. I went past Elio and stepped inside our chamber, with him hot on my tail. "What happened?" he asked. I smelt no alcohol. He did not drink. Was true to his promise. But the mere fact that he did
