Chapter 60: Who Would Have Thought That This Was The End?

After he brings me to the bedroom, we sit there and talk for a few minutes when we hear a knock on the window from outside.  We glance at each other, before he stands up and quickly rushes to the window.  Seeing my father outside, he seems confused until I walk over and open it. 

He climbs in with Alina in his arms and when I see her, she already looks bigger than she did a couple hours before.  I cock my head to ask, “Did she get bigger already?” Glancing between my father and Dominic before taking Alina and waiting for an answer.

The minute she reaches for me, I feel my heart ache just knowing that I had given her away.  I can’t believe that I could think this would be the answer when it was right in front of me the whole time.  Surely, she can live off the animals in the woods and the ones we raise.  Then after she drains them, we can use the meat for everyone else.  A win, win situation.
