Slowly, the boardroom emptied . Papers shuffled, chairs scraped back, voices low and clipped. Ava remained seated for a moment longer, her gaze fixed on the long mahogany table. Her demotion had been delivered like a hammer, precise, brutal, final. Yet beneath the sting, her mind was already working. Revenge required presence. Presence required survival.

She smoothed her skirt and rose, ignoring the sidelong glances from the remaining executives. Their pity and judgment meant nothing. She had not lost. She was still in the building.

Damian had left the boardroom first, his expression unreadable, jaw tight, shoulders squared as though holding up more than just his suit jacket. He hadn’t looked at her once during the deliberation, but she had felt his silence pressing against her skin.

By the time Ava stepped into the hallway, the hum of the office seemed louder, more suffocating. She caught sight of him at the far end, near the executive wing. He paused, adjusted his cufflinks, then slip

Samuel’s hands roamed with a hunger that bordered on ruthless, tugging the dress higher until it bunched around Ava’s waist. She shivered as cool air licked her thighs, every inch of exposed skin feeling claimed by his gaze.“You wore this for me?” he teased, his voice husky as his thumb traced the wet patch on her lace panties.Ava’s breath hitched. “Don’t flatter yourself.”But the lie broke apart the moment he pressed harder, the friction sending shockwaves through her body. She arched against his hand, betraying the ache building between her thighs.“You say no with your mouth,” Samuel murmured, dipping his head to capture her nipple through the thin fabric of her bra, “but your body begs for me.”A helpless moan escaped her lips as he sucked, teeth grazing, his free hand sliding under the lace to stroke her bare heat. Fingers parted her folds with deliberate precision, finding her swollen and dripping. Ava gasped, clutching the sheets, her body arching like a bow.“Samuel…” she w

  • Scent of my mistress    Chapter 29

Ava stepped into the hotel room that day, her heels sinking slightly into the plush carpet as the door clicked shut behind her. She had given Samuel the directions herself, even answered his call with a steady voice, though every fiber of her body had screamed at her to turn away. She shouldn’t be here, not after everything. Her chest tightened at the thought of Damian. As much as she loathed his arrogance, he had defended her in the boardroom. Without his weight, the verdict might have crushed her completely. For a fleeting moment that afternoon, lying on her bed after the exhausting session, she had thought about canceling. About keeping Samuel at a distance, at least for now. But it was too late. He was already here, waiting. And Ava knew better than to risk offending a man who held so much knowledge about her past. Not now.Samuel was leaning against the edge of the table when she entered, casual in his posture, deliberate in his gaze. He wore no smile, only the faintest curve of

The apartment was silent when Ava returned. Silence was something she had learned to use, to soak into her bones until it became a cloak. After the decision in the boardroom and her little talk with Damian, she collapsed briefly onto the chaise by the window. The afternoon light had been soft, bleeding gold across the curtains, and exhaustion had stolen her for a while. When she stirred awake, the room was hushed. She blinked, adjusted, and let the heaviness settle before she pushed herself upright. The nap had been short, but it was enough. Enough to draw a line between the woman who had faced the board and the woman who would now face Samuel. She swung her legs to the floor, her bare feet meeting the coolness of the polished wood. The clock on the wall told her what she already knew ,jt was time. Samuel was waiting. He had been waiting, in his own way, since the last time they crossed paths. She remembered the lingering touch of his hand, the heat in his eyes, the eagerness poorly

Ava's perspectiveThe air in Damian’s office clung to her skin long after she left it, heavy with his frustration, his restraint, his denial of what they both knew to be true. He had tried to draw the line, but Ava had seen the hesitation in his eyes, the hand that almost touched her before he pulled it away. That sliver of weakness was enough. Enough to remind her that, even cut down, she still had power. The hallway outside seemed colder, brighter, the fluorescent lights exposing the whispers that followed her footsteps. They all knew. They had all watched her fall. Demoted, diminished, stripped of the authority she once wielded like a blade. But Ava smiled faintly as she walked. Let them believe she was finished. Survival was not always about winning in the open. Sometimes it was about sinking low enough that no one saw you sharpening your knives.Back in her office , still hers for the moment , she closed the door behind her and leaned against it, eyes sweeping the space. Every in

The morning broke without ceremony. No soft sunlight warming the curtains, no breeze that whispered of peace. Instead, the gray light of an unsettled sky pressed against the blinds of Ava’s bedroom, dull and heavy, like the weight in her chest. She opened her eyes slowly, her face expressionless, the trace of yesterday’s battles still written in the tightness of her jaw.Today was not a day for charm. It was a day for endurance. For a while she remained still, staring at the ceiling as though answers might be etched in the plaster. Then, with a deliberate slowness, she pushed the covers aside and swung her legs to the floor. Her bare feet met the cold tiles, grounding her. She rose, moving with the composure of someone training herself not to tremble. The bathroom mirror offered her no kindness. Her eyes were rimmed with shadows, her lips drawn thin, but she leaned closer anyway, as if daring her reflection to betray weakness. She turned the faucet, splashed her face with water that b
