Chapter 40

MARK

After breakfast was over and Oakley was in the Luna office with my mother and Beth I headed into my office to get some work done. I had a few phone meetings with some other alphas about the situation with the rogues. That went about the way it always did and got nowhere. Then my dad, beta and gamma came into my office for a meeting about pack things. As we were meeting some strange things started happening outside. The weather changed super fast to being stormy and then back to being sunny with the blink of an eye. We all looked at each other with concern and then looked out the window. We could see the training field and it was empty except for my mate, mom and Beth. At one point my mother had linked me the date of the Luna ceremony so I could mark it on my calendar.

“Your mate has some serious powers.” My beta said.

“She did that?” My gamma asked.

“Yes. It seems she can control the elements. I wonder what else she can do.” My dad said as he looked out at them in the field. I was wondering the same thing. She was so amazing and I was feeling so lucky. I could feel her through the mate bond and she seemed unsure and happy at the same time. we watched them for some time before getting back to our meeting. We spent a few hours going over pack stuff and the situation with the rogues. Once we finished it was getting close to lunch time.

“Well I think we have gone over everything we can for now.” I said to them. They nodded in agreement. I wanted to find my mate and get some lunch. I was feel her exhaustion through the link and I was confused by that. Her emotions were going everywhere. Then I suddenly got a mindlink from my mom to go to the pack hospital quickly. From the look on my dads face I could see he had gotten then same message. We shot up out of our chairs and ran as fast as we could through the pack house and out the front door, my beta and gamma on our heels. They had no idea what was going on but followed anyway. I knew I had made a good choice in choosing them for their positions. They followed regardless of knowing what the situation was. For all they knew we could be running to our deaths.

We reached the hospital and made our way inside. I could see a lot of commotion happening outside the room that held the wolves who were in comas. I made my way towards them, they parted to let me through and when I reached the doorway I was stunned. All of the wolves except one were awake. Their families surrounding them in tears and hugging each other. I look over to where the last one is still in a coma, a kid who fell into a coma for no apparent medical reason. I could see his family standing nearby, watching like their lives depended on it. Sitting in a chair next to the child, holding his hand, was my mate. She was so pale and she looked exhausted. Her eyes were closed and I would have thought she was sleeping if she wasn’t sitting up. My mother and Beth stood on either side of her looking as if they are ready to catch her. I was getting pretty confused by the whole thing. My dad walked over to where they were, I followed slowly, taking in everything I was seeing in disbelief.

“What happened?” My dad asked but my mom just shushed him. We all stood there silently for a few moments before Oakley opened her eyes. she looked up at me and I could see the tears forming in them. I saw haven trying to get out but she seemed to be just as exhausted as Oakley. I felt through the mate bond sadness and anger. I was confused by this but I went to her and pulled her into my arms bridal style and then sat in the chair she was in. I heard a gasp behind me and when I looked up I saw the mother of the boy rushing over to him as his eye began to slowly open.

“You did this?” I asked Oakley. She nodded slightly.

“It seems that healing is one of my powers.” She whispered.

“What happened?” I looked around us and then back at her.

“When I held their hands I was transported into their minds. Into their spaces. I was able to talk to them and hear their stories.“ she said, looking around the room. That would explain some of the emotions coming from her but I still didn’t understand the ones from the little boy.

“What happened to him?” I nodded towards where he was laying. She looked over and then looked back at me and there was anger in her eyes.

“He was violated by a family member and his wolf came way too early because of it. He pulled them into a coma to cope with what happened and because they are so young they got caught up playing and such.” She said. It took me a moment to realize what she had said.

“Who?” I asked her.

“An uncle?” She seemed unsure. What I hadn’t realized was the parents had come over to thank her and had heard what she told me. At that moment a man walked into the room and i saw the boy grab his sister, who was with him, and cower behind her when he saw the man. I knew immediately what that meant but his father saw as well. Before anyone could even speak his father jumped the man and started punching him in the face and they got into a scuffle. My dad, beta, gamma and a few others in the room managed to pull them apart.

“How dare you touch my son!” The dad, Arthur, shouted at his brother, Brent. Brent looked a little guilty and I knew it was true.

“Take him to the cells.” I said. “We will handle this later. Let everyone enjoy their families being awake.”

The guards came and escorted Brent to the cells. Some of the nurses and doctors came in to do a work up on the wolves who had been in a coma. Oakley was starting to fall asleep in my arms.

“I think we need to get you to bed.” I said to her. She just nodded, leaned into me and closed her eyes. I carried her out of the hospital and all the way to the pack house. Once in our room I made sure she was tucked into bed and asked for some food and water to be brought up for when she woke up. I planned on taking the rest of the afternoon off and staying with her incase she needed me. However, she slept soundly all the way through the night.
