Chapter 44

OAKLEY

We waited in the meeting room for everyone to join us, we didn’t have to wait for very long. Once everyone was settled mark got right to it.

“So as all of you know the rogues demanded to speak with me last night at the border. They wanted me to give Oakley to them. They said we had a week to turn her over or they were going to take her by force.” He said. Once he finished everyone either started growling or making comments that insinuated they would not let that happen. I was happy to know that they all would fight for me but I also didn’t want them to have to do that.

“Settle down everyone.” Mark said. He waited for everyone to calm down. Then he continued.

“As you know they have vampires working with them. Or actually they are working for a vampire who has sent some of his people to make sure they are doing as he tells them too. We have contacted a friend of the family who is a vampire. He will be here this evening to assist with training. While a lot of us have never fought a vampire before we have heard the rumors and stories of battles that have happened in the past. We need to increase training and I want to border patrols to be increased as well.“ when he was finished everyone nodded. For a little while there was conversations on how things should be done, suggestions and such. But then mark suddenly went quiet and his eyes glazed over. His facial expressions went from angry to confused. He finished and then stood up.

“A rogue has been caught trying to get into the territory. He wasn’t alone and when everyone with him was killed he surrendered and said he wanted to talk to me.” Mark informed everyone. There was a bit of confusion because this is the first time any of the rogues have been willing to say anything. mark called the meeting over as everyone knew what they needed to do and then he headed towards the door. I got up to follow him and he turned to me.

“You should stay in the pack house.” He told me.

“No. I’m coming with you.” I told him.

“Oakley it’s not safe.” He said looking concerned.

“It’s one rogue, there are warriors and do you not remember how powerful haven is?” I reminded him. He sighed.

“Fine but I want you to stay by my side the whole time.” He said defeated.

“I can do that.” I smiled at him. We headed towards the front door of the pack house followed by the beta, gamma, his parents and my dad. We stepped outside to see 4 warriors, two of them holding an injured rogue up between they. They were not being very gentle. I looked at him and noticed that he looked like a child.

“Mark, he can’t be more than 18.” I said confused. He took a good look at the rogue and nodded.

“let him go but stay by his side incase he tries anything.” Mark told the warriors. They roughly dropped the rogue who grunted in pain and then struggled to stand up. He looked up at us.

“Forgive me alpha for the way I entered your territory. I figured it was the only way I could get in and get away from the rogues without them trying to kill me as well. I don’t want to fight. I don’t want to be a part of whatever they have going on. They found me wandering after I left my pack and demanded I join them. They threatened to find my family and harm them if I didn’t. I have a little sister who is 4. I don’t want anything to happened to her.” He rushed to get it all out before anyone could say anything. We all looked at each other confused by his words.

“How old are you?” Mark asked him.

“I turned 18 a couple of days ago alpha.” He responded.

“What’s your name?” I asked him.

“My name is Sam.” he said. I could see he was tired and losing his strength. His injuries seem to be pretty serious.

“Mark we should take him to the pack hospital. He is very injured and just a child. Haven is telling me that she spoke with his wolf and he is not a danger to us. He will tell you everything he knows.” I turned to him. He looked at me for a moment as if contemplating what I was telling him. then he turned back to them.

“Before I do as my mate has recommended I want to know why you left your pack.” He said. Sam’s expressions went from upset to angry to hurt before masking it.

“I turned 18 a few days ago. I was so excited because I was hoping to find my mate. As soon as I scented her I followed the scent into the pack house. It went to one of the living rooms where I found the alphas daughter making out with her boyfriend, the betas son. It turns out she was my mate. I had growled at them because he was touching my mate, his hands all over her, it made me so angry. He put me against the wall and punched me before I could react. Then she rejected me. She said that she would never be mated to anyone less than a beta or an alpha. When her dad came into the room he did not argue. He just told me that I heard what she said and needed to move on. My dad is one of the head warriors in the pack. I didn’t want any trouble for my family so I accepted her rejection and then left the pack. I wandered around lost for days, unsure of what to do or where to go. That’s when the rogues found me.” He told us, looking defeated.

“I want to use the alpha command to find out if what you say is true.” Mark responded. I gasped.

“You don’t need to do that mark. He’s telling the truth. Haven said his wolf told her the same thing.” I turned to him. He didn’t even look at me as he continued to do what he wanted.

“are you telling the truth?” He asked as he released his alpha aura but far more powerful, everyone except for me fell to their knees and bared their necks.

“Yes alpha. I am telling the truth.” He responded. Mark dropped his aura. I was angry at him and I made sure he felt it through the mate bond.

“Take him to the pack hospital. Be gentle. He has been through enough. Dad why don’t you and Oakleys dad go with him to oversee his care please.” mark said turning to them. They nodded and made their way down the steps to sam. I followed them before mark could reach me. He winced.

“I will go with them. As Luna it is my job to make sure he receives the proper care in this hospital.” I told him without even looking at him. He just nodded, defeated. He knew I was angry with him and he wasn’t going to argue with me about it. As we all walked away I heard his mother chastising him for what he did. That made me grin some. We headed to the pack hospital, the warriors gently supporting Sam and helping him get there. At one point he passed out and they had to pick him up and carry him the rest of the way.

Once we reached the hospital and entered my dad suddenly stopped and started sniffing.

“Dad what’s wrong?” I asked him.

“Mate.” was all he said before taking off down the hallways of the hospital.
