Chapter 116

Author: Cloud Drop
From this close, Aria looked at his face—handsome and elegant. Water droplets slid down his forehead from his black hair, dampening his eyebrows and eyelashes.

"So kissing is allowed," he said, yet he didn't take the initiative to kiss her.

Aria, as if embarrassed by his smile, instinctively lowered her head and placed a light kiss on his eyelashes.

"Did you call me 'Mr. Duncan' many times again today?" Archer seized the moment, turning his head to kiss her neck, inhaling the sweet fragrance of her skin.

He said, "Now that we've gotten our marriage certificate, how about calling me 'hubby' so I can hear it?"

He always seemed to enjoy teasing her.

He could tell Aria was nervous. The way he spoke seemed like he was both teasing her and trying to lighten the mood, making her feel less awkward.

Aria paused, her ears seemingly turning red. Her skin, already soft and flushed from the shower, now appeared even softer and redder.

She couldn't help biting her lower lip and after a long

In front of Archer, Mark always felt powerless—like he was constantly being looked down on.The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. Without even realizing, his foot pressed harder and harder on the gas until—bang. His car slammed into the back of Archer’s SUV.Archer hadn’t been prepared at all. He had just started to turn when Mark’s car smashed into his tail, sending the Range Rover skidding sideways. The momentum carried it straight into the car in the next lane. The double impact whipped Archer forward. His forehead slammed into the steering wheel, then jerked sideways, knocking into the driver-side window.Dazed, he sucked in a sharp breath, then slowly pushed open the door and stepped out of the car—just in time to see Mark getting out of his own vehicle.Mark lit a cigarette, took a slow drag, and narrowed his eyes at Archer.“Sorry. Zoned out while driving,” he said casually, exhaling smoke. The driver of the other car, clearly fuming, jumped out. “Are you out

After lunch, Archer had wanted Aria to stay with him for the rest of the afternoon. But she had things to discuss with Christina, so he didn’t press the issue and drove her home himself. On the way, Aria got a call from her mother.“Mom, hold on. Let me check if he’s free tonight,” Aria said, covering the phone and turning to Archer. “Do you want to come over later?”Archer nodded. “No dinner meetings tonight, and work’s light. I can get off on time.”Aria smiled and spoke back into the phone, “We’ll come by.”After a pause, she glanced at Archer and added with a teasing smile, “He likes bold, spicy flavors! And he loves romaine lettuce. Also sea urchin—pretty much anything seafood.”After hanging up, she grinned. “Mom wanted to know what kind of dishes you like.”---That evening, just as he stepped out of the elevator, Archer called Aria. “I’m off work now. I’ll come pick you up so we can head over together. Of course we can’t be late—your mom’s expecting us.”From the next

He finally let out a quiet laugh and brushed the strands of hair stuck to her forehead and cheeks, revealing her delicate, lovely face.Leaning in close, he whispered by her ear, “If you’d known back then that it was me who saved you… would you have started liking me from that moment?”Aria gave a soft snort. “If I’d liked you from back then, you probably wouldn’t have thought much of me. You’d have gotten bored and forgotten about me ages ago. Men never treasure what comes easy.”Archer tightened his arms around her, resting his lips on the top of her head. His voice came low and steady, “If I like someone, it’s because I knew from the start they were the one.”Aria paused, remembering what Fifi had told her: “Back then I thought it was just a coincidence… but now that I think about it, Archer probably followed you there on purpose. The farewell party was for him, and there were so many places they could’ve gone. Why choose a frozen lakeside in the middle of winter?”But then ag

“There’s nothing bad,” she murmured, her soft fingertips tracing lazy circles at the nape of his neck.“It’s just… when I was thirteen, I almost drowned. For years, I thought it was Mark or Larry who pulled me out,” Aria said quietly. “But now I know the truth. Turns out you were also there that day—and the person who saved me wasn’t either of them.”She looked up at him, not waiting for a reply. Recalling that maddeningly smug arch of his brow, she lifted her own and asked, “Why didn’t you ever tell me?”Archer’s arms tightened around her. “So that’s the reason you spent all those years in love with Larry?”Her cheeks flamed. She felt ridiculous—like she’d crushed on the wrong person all along—and now he was mocking her for it.“I didn’t know you thought it was Larry who saved you,” he said, voice low and slightly hoarse. Was that… disappointment in his tone? Or was she imagining it?“I was rushing to catch a flight that morning,” he went on after a pause. “I figured someone els

Aria hesitated, eyes dropping to the faint smile playing at the corner of Archer’s lips. Then, with a reluctant shuffle, she walked around the desk to stand in front of him.He reached for her hand, fingers brushing gently across her soft palm before trailing along each slender finger. A shiver ran up her spine, a tingling current that left her breathless. With a slow turn of his chair, Archer shifted to face her fully. One hand continued to hold hers, while the other slipped around her waist, drawing her gently into his lap.“I’m not busy,” he said with a soft laugh, placing a light kiss on her brow.“Archer… this is your office,” she whispered, one hand pressing lightly against his shoulder. She meant to push him away, but instead found herself clutching tighter. He leaned in, his voice low and calm. “I knew you were coming. No one’s getting through—Julian is outside.”Aria’s face flushed. So Julian just knew not to interrupt because… what, this was expected? She barely had tim

Aria knew all too well—she had let her feelings for Larry blind her. She had allowed him to hurt her again and again. And maybe, just maybe, that same mistaken gratitude had made her go easy on Mark’s mother after what she did.She let out a quiet, self-deprecating laugh and shook her head.Lost in thought, she unknowingly wandered to the front desk.“Mrs. Duncan!” someone suddenly called out.Aria blinked, startled, and looked up to see the receptionist blushing in embarrassment.“Sorry, I mean… Miss Jackson…” the receptionist stammered.Aria smiled gently, trying to ease her nerves. “Is Archer busy right now?”“I’m not sure,” the receptionist said quickly. “I can call and ask. But Mr. Duncan left instructions—any time you visit, you’re welcome to go straight up.”She was already reaching for the phone when Aria stopped her.“No, it’s alright.” Aria’s voice was soft. She felt like she was barging in unannounced, and what if he was in the middle of something important? She wa
