Naomi's POV The banquet hall was a sea of gold to say the least. I felt awfully small and almost non-existent. And with how underdressed I was? Yeah, I was this close to bolting. I was standing near the buffet table, my fingers trembling as I held a glass of water I was too nauseous to drink. Then, the room went quiet. Liam stepped into the center of the floor. He looked like a god. His dark suit was tailored to perfection, and his presence was so commanding that the Alphas of our pack actually bowed their heads. My wolf was screaming now, a frantic, joyous sound. Mate. Go to him. He’s going to fix this. I took a step forward, my heart in my throat. I was imagining the look of recognition in his eyes, the way he would pull me away from the whispers and tell everyone that I belonged to him. Liam’s eyes found mine, and for a second, I thought it was happening. But his gaze wasn't warm. It was far from that. "Everyone!" Liam’s cold voice carried to every corner of the room. "I believe there has been a misunderstanding. A certain... anomaly... has been spreading a rather pathetic rumor." He pointed a finger directly at me. The crowd turned as one, their eyes burning into me like lasers. "Naomi Reed," he said, his lip curling in a way that made my stomach do a slow, painful roll. "I’ve heard you’ve been telling people I saved you on the roof last night. That you’ve been claiming some kind of... connection to me." I froze. My mouth went dry. "Liam, I... you did. You caught me." Liam let out a short, bark-like laugh that sent a chill down my spine. "I wouldn't touch a vile, ordinary Omega like you if you were the last creature on earth." "You’re a suicidal attention-seeker, Naomi. You threw yourself off that roof hoping someone would notice you, and now you’re trying to latch onto my name to save yourself from being a pack failure." The room erupted in whispers. I could see my parents in the crowd, their faces turning a bright, humiliated red. "But the bond..." I whispered, though it felt like my lungs were filling with lead. "You’re my mate. I felt it." Liam walked toward me, stopping just inches away. He leaned down, his scent of woodsmoke blocking my senses, acting as poison. "A worthless mutt like you could never stand beside me," he hissed, loud enough for the front row to hear. "I, Liam Silva Lyon, hereby reject you, Naomi Reed, as my mate. You are nothing to me. You are a stain on this pack, and I’d rather shift and claw my own heart out than be tied to a dud like you." The rejection hit me like a physical blow. My wolf let out a silent, agonizing howl in my head before collapsing. I felt something inside me tear, a raw, bleeding hole opening up where my soul used to be. Liam didn't even watch me crumble. He turned on his heel and reached out a hand. Helena stepped forward, looking like a shimmering saint in her silk dress. He pulled her into his arms, tucking her head under his chin. The pack erupted in mocking laughter and cheers. I didn't stay to see the rest. I turned and bolted, the sound of their laughter following behind me. I ran, not caring about the graduation or my parents or the fact that I was bleeding internally from the severed bond. I just needed air. To not feel like I was being suffocated. I burst through the academy gates and plunged into the forbidden pack woods, the branches clawing at my face and tearing my navy dress to rags. The bond-break was making my vision swim. Every step was agonizing. I tripped over a root and slammed into the dirt, coughing up a mouthful of blood that tasted like the failure I was. I was so weak. My wolf was silent, too new and too broken by the rejection to help me. I was just lying there, waiting for the dark to swallow me, when the snapping of twigs made my ears twitch. I wasn't alone. Three men stepped out from behind the oak trees. They were not part of my pack. They smelled of….. oh no. Rogues. My mind screamed that this was impossible; the pack borders were supposed to be iron-clad. They should not be able to get this close. "Well, well," the lead rogue said, his eyes glowing a sickly, crazed red. "Looks like the pack threw out the trash just in time for dinner." I tried to scramble backward, but my legs felt like jelly. The rogue lunged, his claws extended for my throat. I closed my eyes, bracing for the end. At least the pain would finally stop. But the strike never came. Instead, a roar shook the very earth beneath me. It wasn't a wolf’s howl. It was deeper, more primal. It was unlike anything I'd ever heard before. A blur of black and silver tore through the clearing. Before I could even blink, the lead rogue was slammed into a tree with enough force to shatter the trunk. A single swipe of a massive hand sent the second rogue flying into the darkness, his screams cutting off abruptly. The third one didn't even wait—he turned and fled, but he was gone before he could take two steps. I was shaking, my breath coming in short, terrified hitches. I looked up, expecting another monster, but I found a man. He was standing in the center of the carnage, his chest heaving. He was taller than Liam, broader, his presence so heavy it felt like the ground was slipping away from underneath me. He turned to me, and my heart stopped. His eyes were blue, but not like Liam’s. These were the color of the midnight sea. They seemed like the eyes of something that had seen empires rise and fall. Before I could move, he was in front of me. He grabbed my shoulders and pinned me against a rough oak tree, his body, radiating heat. His scent hit me. Other than dark cedar, there was something else there. It was the bond. It hit me a second time, stronger than before. My broken wolf stirred, lifting her head and letting out a sound that was a submissive, recognition-filled whine. "The Lycan King," I breathed, the realization hitting me like a freight train. He leaned in, his nose brushing the pulse point on my neck, his dominance crushing the air right out of my lungs. I could feel his power humming against my skin, a dark pressure that demanded I surrender. "Liam," I choked out, confused and hurting. "Liam was... he said..." The man pulled back just enough to look me in the eye. His grip on my arms was firm and possessive. "Liam was a mistake," he growled, his voice a low, gravelly rumble that sent a shiver down my spine. "In plain terms, he's just a boy playing with a power he doesn't understand." He leaned closer, his lips almost touching mine, and the world went still. "The moon doesn't make mistakes, Naomi. It just gives the strongest souls a choice." The impossible truth settled into my soul, stitching the broken pieces of my heart back together with this dark thread I'd just found. Liam wasn't the only one the moon assigned to me. I wasn't just a mate to some stupid prestigious student. I was the mate of the King. As the darkness of his gaze swallowed me whole, I realized that the girl who was rejected by the pack was about to become the woman who rules them all. Liam didn't just throw away a mutt; he threw away a queen. The Lycan King’s grip tightened, his eyes flashing with a possessive hunger that told me he was never letting go. "Mine," he whispered. And for the first time in twenty-one years, I believed it.Axel's POVThe morning had been quiet. After Naomi's conversation with her parents, she had seemed lighter—not happy, as that would take time, but lighter, like she had finally put down a weight she had been carrying for years. We spent the morning together in the garden. She didn't talk much, but she didn't need to; she just sat beside me, her head resting on my shoulder, watching the clouds drift across the sky."I feel like I can breathe again," she said at one point.I kissed the top of her head. "Good.""I still don't forgive them not yet.""That's okay.""But I don't hate them either; I just... I need space."I nodded. "You're allowed to need space."She looked up at me. "Thank you for not pushing me to feel differently.""I would never do that."She smiled—a real smile, the first one I had seen in days—and leaned back against me. For a moment, everything felt peaceful, but I should have known it wouldn't last.I watched Naomi as she sat in the garden, her eyes closed, her face
Naomi's POVI woke the next morning with a heavy feeling in my chest. The sun was streaming through the curtains, casting warm light across the room. Axel was still asleep beside me, his arm draped over my waist. I watched him for a moment, grateful for the steady rise and fall of his chest, the calm expression on his face.He had stayed with me through everything. He hadn't pushed me to forgive anyone. He hadn't told me how to feel. He had just been there.I carefully slipped out of bed, trying not to wake him. I walked to the window and looked out at the Lycan kingdom. It was peaceful here. Quiet. Nothing like the chaos of the BlackRose Pack. But even here, the past followed me.I thought about Helena. About Liam. About the parents who had raised me and lied to me for years. I thought about Cressida—my real mother—and wondered what she was like. Where she was. Why she had given me up.I didn't have answers. I wasn't sure I ever would.A soft knock came at the door.I turned, surpris
Naomi's POVThe hall was quiet after Liam left.I stood on the platform beside Axel, my legs still shaky from everything that had happened. Helena was on the floor, the adoption papers scattered around her like fallen leaves. Her parents sat frozen in their chairs, their faces pale and drawn. No one spoke.I didn't know what to feel. Everything had happened so fast. One moment I was learning that my entire life had been a lie, and the next, Helena's world was crumbling in front of me.Part of me wanted to feel satisfied. She had made my life miserable for years. She had lied, manipulated, and destroyed everything she touched. She deserved this. But another part of me—a part I didn't want to acknowledge—felt something else. Something that felt dangerously close to pity.I pushed the feeling away."Take her to the holding cells," Axel ordered. The guards moved toward Helena, but before they could grab her, she scrambled to her feet."No!" She backed away, her eyes wild. "You can't do th
Helena's POVThe guards dragged me back into the hall without warning.I stumbled through the doors, my wrists still aching from where they had grabbed me. My hair was a mess, my clothes wrinkled from being thrown back into the cell. I didn't care. I was too angry to care about anything."This is ridiculous!" I shouted, trying to pull free from their grip. "You can't keep treating me like a criminal!"No one answered. The hall was the same as before, but the atmosphere had shifted. The air felt heavier. My parents were still there, standing near the platform with their heads bowed. Axel was in his place, his expression cold and unreadable. And Naomi...Naomi was standing beside him, holding a stack of papers in her hands. My heart skipped a beat when I saw them. I recognized those papers. They were the documents I had given Axel. The ones the cloaked man had provided. Why was Naomi holding them?"Sit down, Helena," Axel said.I remained standing. "I'm not sitting anywhere until someon
Axel's POVThe doors had barely closed behind Naomi's parents when I realized we weren't done.I had sent them to the guest quarters to give Naomi space, but the truth was still incomplete. They had revealed Cressida's name a woman who wasn't human—and then stopped. They had given us pieces of a puzzle without showing us the full picture.I couldn't let that stand.Naomi was still in my arms, her body trembling against mine. She hadn't spoken since her parents were led away. She was processing, I knew. Trying to make sense of everything she had just learned. But I needed answers.I pulled back slightly and looked down at her. "Naomi, I need to talk to them again."She looked up at me, her eyes red and swollen. "Why?""Because they haven't told us everything. They mentioned Cressida, but they didn't explain who she is or why you were switched. We need the full story."Naomi was quiet for a moment. Then she nodded slowly. "You're right. I need to know."I took her hand. "We'll do this
Naomi's POVThe next three days passed slower than any days I had ever experienced.I barely slept. I barely ate. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Helena's face, heard her voice, felt the cold satisfaction in her words. You were a stray. You were never a Reed.Axel had been patient with me. He had stayed by my side, held me when I needed it, and given me space when I didn't. But I knew he was just as anxious as I was. He had summoned my parents to the Lycan kingdom, and they were due to arrive today.I stood by the window of our room, staring out at the road that led to the main gates. The morning sun was bright, but I felt cold."What if they don't come?" I asked quietly.Axel walked up behind me and placed his hands on my shoulders. "They'll come.""How can you be sure?""Because they know what happens if they don't."I turned to look at him. His expression was calm, but there was a hard edge to his eyes that I had seen before. It was the look he got when someone threatened someth
Chapter 4Naomi's POVThe classroom was as busy as a fucking beehive. Normally, everyone was trying to cram for the final theory exams or talking about who was going to get which pack placement, but today was different. The air felt heavier than it did when preparing for a storm or something. I wa
Chapter 3Naomi's POVThe first thing I noticed upon waking up was that the world was way too loud. The hum of the fluorescent lights above me sounded like a swarm of angry bees, and the smell of antiseptic was so strong it actually made my eyes water. Then, the memory hit me: the roof, the fall,
Chapter 2Naomi's POVPain was a funny thing. After a while, it stopped feeling like sharp stabs and started feeling like a heavy, wet blanket wrapped around my entire soul.I didn't know how long I had laid in that mud, but by the time I managed to roll onto my stomach and push myself up, the cou

I couldn't take it anymore and was done with the pathetic thing that was supposed to be a life."Such a filthy anomaly.""Traitor!!""She's more than a witch. Let her burn!!"The words were being screamed at
