MasukChapter 4
Naomi's POV The classroom was as busy as a fucking beehive. Normally, everyone was trying to cram for the final theory exams or talking about who was going to get which pack placement, but today was different. The air felt heavier than it did when preparing for a storm or something. I was sitting in my usual spot, but I couldn't stop my heart from doing gymnastics in my chest. Every time the door creaked open, I sat up a little straighter. I had tried to fix my hair with a little water from the bathroom sink and had tucked the dirtiest parts of my shirt under my sweater. I wanted to at the very least look like someone worth claiming. Then, the Dean walked in, and the room went dead silent. He wasn't alone. Trailing behind him was the man from the roof. Up close, without the haze of a concussion or the dark of the night, he was almost painful to look at. He was tall, built like a predator, and carried himself with the kind of effortless power that made everyone else in the room look like a background character. "Everyone, pay attention," the Dean said, his voice booming with a pride I had never heard before. "We are honored to host an exchange student of immense importance for our graduation festivities. This is Liam Silva Lyon. He comes from one of the most prestigious lineages in the northern territories. Treat him with the respect his rank deserves." Liam. His name even sounded powerful. My wolf started pacing around restlessly. Mate, mate, mate, she kept repeating, the word becoming a bloody mantra. I waited for him to look at me. I was leaning forward slightly, my lips parted, waiting for that deep blue gaze to find mine and for the world to stop again. I was ready for the moment he realized I was the girl he saved, the girl who belonged to him. But his eyes didn't stop at the back row. Liam’s gaze swept over the room with a bored coldness until it landed right on the front row, right on Helena. She was sitting there looking like a literal doll, her hair perfectly curled and her eyes wide with that innocent sparkle she probably spent hours practicing in the mirror. When Liam’s eyes met hers, something happened. He didn't look disgusted or bored. He…..he smiled. He smiled at her and Helena returned it with a graceful tilt of her head. Throughout the entire lecture, I was invisible. Liam spent the whole time leaning against the Dean’s desk, whispering things to Helena that made her giggle behind her hand. They looked like they had known each other for a lifetime. They looked like they belonged together. I felt a cold, sinking dread settle in my stomach. The high I had been floating on earlier had evaporated, replaced by a hollow ache. My wolf was getting beyond restless now, her pacing turning into a frantic trot. She didn't understand why our mate was looking at the monster instead of us. When the bell finally rang, I didn't wait for the Dean to dismiss us. I grabbed my bag and bolted. I couldn't stay there and watch them. I practically ran all the way back to the small, cramped house on the edge of the pack lands that I was supposed to call home. Usually, when I walked through the door, my parents either ignored me or pointed at a pile of laundry that needed doing. I was basically their live-in maid who happened to share their last name. But today, the house was in a state of total chaos. "Naomi! There you are!" My mother screamed the second I stepped into the kitchen. She was frantically scrubbing a silver platter, her hair falling out of her bun. "Don't just stand there like a statue! Go wash your face. Use the expensive soap." "What’s going on?" I asked, glancing at my father, who was currently obsessing over the shine on his best shoes. "The banquet, Naomi! Keep up!" He snapped without looking at me. "The pack is hosting a grand event tonight. Liam Silva Lyon is our guest of honor, but more importantly, a high-ranking Lycan has entered our territory. An Elder." "Do you have any idea what that means for our status if we make a good impression?" I froze. A Lycan? Actual Lycans were rare. They were the royalty of our world, the ancient bloodlines that regular wolves like us only read about in history books. Between Liam’s arrival and a Lycan Elder showing up, the gravity of the BlackRose pack had shifted. Something big was happening, something I could feel in the air like the taste of copper before a storm. "You need to look your best," my mother said, grabbing my arm and shoving me toward the stairs. "We can't have you looking like a gutter rat in front of Liam or the Elder. Wear that navy dress—the one without the holes. And for heaven's sake, put some color in your cheeks. You look like you've seen a ghost." I climbed the stairs to my tiny room, my mind spinning. Liam was going to be there. This was my chance. Maybe the classroom was just a mistake. Maybe he was just being polite to Helena because she was the pack favorite. At a banquet, with the bond pulling us together, he wouldn't be able to ignore me. I pulled out a navy blue dress that was a few years too old and a bit too tight in the chest, but it was the only thing I had that didn't have a stain on it. As I pulled it on, I caught my reflection in the cracked mirror. I looked pale. My eyes looked too big for my face, and the bruise on my jaw from Jax’s kick was still visible, even if I tried to cover it with hair. I had a bad feeling about this. A really bad feeling. The way my parents were acting, the way the Dean was hovering over Liam, the way that Lycan Elder was suddenly in town... it all felt like pieces of a puzzle I had not solved yet. Liam wasn't just an exchange student. No one got this much attention for being a student; he was something else and my wolf knew it. She had stopped pacing and was now huddled in the corner of my mind, her ears flattened back. She was scared. I took a deep breath and tried to steady my hands. This was the night of the graduation banquet, the night everything was supposed to change. I walked out of my room and headed downstairs. I felt like I was walking toward a cliff, and this time, I wasn't sure anyone was going to be there to catch me. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you…… the night my life ended.Axel's POVThe morning had been quiet. After Naomi's conversation with her parents, she had seemed lighter—not happy, as that would take time, but lighter, like she had finally put down a weight she had been carrying for years. We spent the morning together in the garden. She didn't talk much, but she didn't need to; she just sat beside me, her head resting on my shoulder, watching the clouds drift across the sky."I feel like I can breathe again," she said at one point.I kissed the top of her head. "Good.""I still don't forgive them not yet.""That's okay.""But I don't hate them either; I just... I need space."I nodded. "You're allowed to need space."She looked up at me. "Thank you for not pushing me to feel differently.""I would never do that."She smiled—a real smile, the first one I had seen in days—and leaned back against me. For a moment, everything felt peaceful, but I should have known it wouldn't last.I watched Naomi as she sat in the garden, her eyes closed, her face
Naomi's POVI woke the next morning with a heavy feeling in my chest. The sun was streaming through the curtains, casting warm light across the room. Axel was still asleep beside me, his arm draped over my waist. I watched him for a moment, grateful for the steady rise and fall of his chest, the calm expression on his face.He had stayed with me through everything. He hadn't pushed me to forgive anyone. He hadn't told me how to feel. He had just been there.I carefully slipped out of bed, trying not to wake him. I walked to the window and looked out at the Lycan kingdom. It was peaceful here. Quiet. Nothing like the chaos of the BlackRose Pack. But even here, the past followed me.I thought about Helena. About Liam. About the parents who had raised me and lied to me for years. I thought about Cressida—my real mother—and wondered what she was like. Where she was. Why she had given me up.I didn't have answers. I wasn't sure I ever would.A soft knock came at the door.I turned, surpris
Naomi's POVThe hall was quiet after Liam left.I stood on the platform beside Axel, my legs still shaky from everything that had happened. Helena was on the floor, the adoption papers scattered around her like fallen leaves. Her parents sat frozen in their chairs, their faces pale and drawn. No one spoke.I didn't know what to feel. Everything had happened so fast. One moment I was learning that my entire life had been a lie, and the next, Helena's world was crumbling in front of me.Part of me wanted to feel satisfied. She had made my life miserable for years. She had lied, manipulated, and destroyed everything she touched. She deserved this. But another part of me—a part I didn't want to acknowledge—felt something else. Something that felt dangerously close to pity.I pushed the feeling away."Take her to the holding cells," Axel ordered. The guards moved toward Helena, but before they could grab her, she scrambled to her feet."No!" She backed away, her eyes wild. "You can't do th
Helena's POVThe guards dragged me back into the hall without warning.I stumbled through the doors, my wrists still aching from where they had grabbed me. My hair was a mess, my clothes wrinkled from being thrown back into the cell. I didn't care. I was too angry to care about anything."This is ridiculous!" I shouted, trying to pull free from their grip. "You can't keep treating me like a criminal!"No one answered. The hall was the same as before, but the atmosphere had shifted. The air felt heavier. My parents were still there, standing near the platform with their heads bowed. Axel was in his place, his expression cold and unreadable. And Naomi...Naomi was standing beside him, holding a stack of papers in her hands. My heart skipped a beat when I saw them. I recognized those papers. They were the documents I had given Axel. The ones the cloaked man had provided. Why was Naomi holding them?"Sit down, Helena," Axel said.I remained standing. "I'm not sitting anywhere until someon
Axel's POVThe doors had barely closed behind Naomi's parents when I realized we weren't done.I had sent them to the guest quarters to give Naomi space, but the truth was still incomplete. They had revealed Cressida's name a woman who wasn't human—and then stopped. They had given us pieces of a puzzle without showing us the full picture.I couldn't let that stand.Naomi was still in my arms, her body trembling against mine. She hadn't spoken since her parents were led away. She was processing, I knew. Trying to make sense of everything she had just learned. But I needed answers.I pulled back slightly and looked down at her. "Naomi, I need to talk to them again."She looked up at me, her eyes red and swollen. "Why?""Because they haven't told us everything. They mentioned Cressida, but they didn't explain who she is or why you were switched. We need the full story."Naomi was quiet for a moment. Then she nodded slowly. "You're right. I need to know."I took her hand. "We'll do this
Naomi's POVThe next three days passed slower than any days I had ever experienced.I barely slept. I barely ate. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Helena's face, heard her voice, felt the cold satisfaction in her words. You were a stray. You were never a Reed.Axel had been patient with me. He had stayed by my side, held me when I needed it, and given me space when I didn't. But I knew he was just as anxious as I was. He had summoned my parents to the Lycan kingdom, and they were due to arrive today.I stood by the window of our room, staring out at the road that led to the main gates. The morning sun was bright, but I felt cold."What if they don't come?" I asked quietly.Axel walked up behind me and placed his hands on my shoulders. "They'll come.""How can you be sure?""Because they know what happens if they don't."I turned to look at him. His expression was calm, but there was a hard edge to his eyes that I had seen before. It was the look he got when someone threatened someth
Chapter 5Naomi's POVThe banquet hall was a sea of gold to say the least. I felt awfully small and almost non-existent. And with how underdressed I was? Yeah, I was this close to bolting. I was standing near the buffet table, my fingers trembling as I held a glass of water I was too nauseous to
Chapter 3Naomi's POVThe first thing I noticed upon waking up was that the world was way too loud. The hum of the fluorescent lights above me sounded like a swarm of angry bees, and the smell of antiseptic was so strong it actually made my eyes water. Then, the memory hit me: the roof, the fall,
Chapter 2Naomi's POVPain was a funny thing. After a while, it stopped feeling like sharp stabs and started feeling like a heavy, wet blanket wrapped around my entire soul.I didn't know how long I had laid in that mud, but by the time I managed to roll onto my stomach and push myself up, the cou

I couldn't take it anymore and was done with the pathetic thing that was supposed to be a life."Such a filthy anomaly.""Traitor!!""She's more than a witch. Let her burn!!"The words were being screamed at
