Blair's pov

I woke up to the sound of someone's voice calling out my name.

I opened my eyes to find a bright light staring directly in my eyes.

Where was I?

Was I dead?

I wondered, blinking rapidly at the light.

Was this the after life?

It took a minute for my eyes to finally adjust to the light and I finally opened it.

“You are awake,” a familiar voice said and I pulled myself up to find the nurse that had come to get me from the waiting room staring at me.

“What am I doing here?”

I asked.

“You don't remember me, do you?”

She asked, smiling down at me.

“You tried to kill me!”

I tried to get away from her.

“Not me, my colleague did.”

She said, staring at me with pity in her eyes.

“I couldn't go through with it, so I pretended to have done it and took you to the morgue. I only took you out when the doctor was gone.”

“,I don't understand. Why would you want to kill me?” I asked, surprisingly calm.

“Not me, Miss Celia.” She said,

My eyes widened in shock. My sister really hated me.

“My sister?”

“Yes,” she nodded.

I wasn't even sure what to feel. I just stared in disbelief.

“I'm sorry…” the nurse said.

“No, thank you for saving me.” I interrupted her.

Why did you save me?” I asked after a pause, scared that this could b anothwrof Celia's plans.

“Because we used to be friends,”

I stared blankly at her, sure as hell that I had no idea what she was saying.

“Of course you don't remember me. I've changed quite a lot and so have you.*

She stated.

“Who are you?” I questioned, trying to ignore the faint throbbing pain in my head.

“My name is Simone. We were friends back in the orphanage. You might not remember…”

“I remember you!” I stood up instantly and hugged her.

“I thought you were…”

“Dead?”

“Well, yeah.”

“No, I survived the fire.”

Simone was my best friend in the orphanage until she was adopted.

It had been reported that her house had caught on fire and that she was dead but seeing her now after twenty years felt like a dream.

A weird dream.

I stood up and hugged her right.

“Thank you.”

I thanked her.

“You are absolutely welcome.” She said.

“I can't believe it's you, you look different.”

She smiled, revealing a chipped tooth.

I remember how she got that chip on her tooth. I had been chasing her with a a rag doll that the orphanage termed as eveok and she'd fallen down the stairs in an attempt escape me.

The mathron's had given me a good beating that day and I had almost ran away from the orphanage.

“You still have that chip on your tooth.”

“Oh, yeah. I never fixed it.”

“It suits you,” I complimented.

A surge of pain from nowhere passed through my head and I groaned, holding my head in my hands.

“Shit, sit down,” Simone helped me back on the couch.

“I'll get you your medications.” She said and ran out of the tiny living room. She emerged five minutes later with a bunch of pills and made me swallow three of them.

“They'll make you feel better,”

She said, rubbing up down my arms.

“Thank you.”

I said with a faint smile.

“Have some rest. We have a lot to talk about in the coming days but for now, you should rest.”

She encouraged. I nodded and true to her words, I slowly began to feel my eyekids get heavier and heavier.

I took a few minutes before I finally fell asleep.

…..

The sound of someone playing Mozart woke me up.

I pulled myself up and realized that it was mistake.

I felt like shit and my body was practically mush.

“You are awake!” Simone's voice echoed from the doorway.

“Yes, how long was I out for?” I asked, stretching my hands.

“A day and a half. Still feeling lightheaded?”

She questioned, feeling my temperature with her hands.

“No but I'm incredibly hungry.”

I stated.

“I'll get you something to drink and then you can eat later.”

She said and began to take out some eqyioments from her bag ri check on my body function.

“Why are you helping me?*

I asked after a few seconds of watching her treat me.

“ I told you, I'm…”

“No, the real reason.* I said pointedly. I wasn't naive to think she was doing all of this without an ulterior motive.

She gave me a once over before sighing.

“I'll tell you but you have to promise not to tell this to anyone else,*

“I promise,” I said, even though I didn't mean it. I needed to know what she was talking about and the only way I could do that was act like I was her ally

“I have a suspicion.”

“ A suspicion? What do you mean by that?”

I asked.

“I have reason to believe that your parents' death was not an accident.”

“My parents are still alive, what are you talking about?”

I froze, wondering what the hell I had missed in the last couple of days.

“Not the Palmerson's. Your biological parents.”

I froze again.

I had lived my life so long without them that I didn't even realize I had parents other than the Palmerson's.

All the memory I had of my life before the orphanage was mostly of firee and screams, at least I thought they were memories. I don't remember being there. I just knew I jeit having reoccurring dreams of a burning building z a fast moving car and a sweet voice but nothing more. I had after all been in the orphanage since I was 1 tears old.

“I don't understand…” I frowned, unsure about what she was getting at.

“It’s simple. The reason I saved you is because I think the Palmerson's may be responsible for a few deaths that happened a few years before you were taken to the orphanage.”

She answered, watching me carefully.

“And you think my adoptive parents are responsible?” I asked in disbelief.

“Well, to put simply, yes, I do but there is more. My team and I think they maybe into some shady business and it's my responsibility to bring her down.”

“Your team?” I asked in confusion.

“I am not just a nurse, I am a detective.”

.I blinked at her. Just who was I getting myself involved with?

All I wanted was revenge on my ex husband and sister and while joining forces with her made sense, this wasn't how I had imagined things to go.

The Palmersons were not the greatest people alive but they were still my parents and had raised me.

The were the people I trusted with my entire life. They weren't perfect but they were the only ones that treated me with respect when all Celia did was be a bitch to me.

They treated me like shit too but it was usually because Celia was instigating them and causing confusion between us.

“That's impossible.”

“Is it?” Simone asked, looking me straight in the eyes.

“Yes, look my parents are not the best in the world but they are not killers and they sure as hell are not responsible for any deaths I know.”

“I knew you wouldn't believe me and that's okay but you should know this, if your shdter could attempt to kill you then your dk called parents are no saints. I'll help you get your revenge on your sister but you should know that you'll be finding a lot of skeletons in your perfect family cupboard.”

She said walking out of the room.

I stayed there, unsure what to do now, I had not been expecting that and to be honest I didn't want to dig anything.

I didn't want to destroy the image I had of my parents but if what she was saying was true, I needed to get to the bottom of things.
