Hazel’s P.O.V. (Continued)

My heart sank when I understood the meaning of his statement. His dad wanted a political-cum-business marriage for Cody.

Now he is married to me.

Will he accept me?

“You don’t need to worry about if he will like you or not, Hazel, because I know what I want, and right now, you and Mary are my only priority.” Cody comforted me in a firm voice, but it only made me smile tightly.

My heart was feeling uneasy once again.

Surely the peace and this feeling of being safe is only temporary, but I trust Cody.

“Before bringing you here, I told my father that I have been persuading you for more than two years, and because of you, I went to the Black Lotus Pack. I told him that you relied on your own efforts for your mother’s treatment until I married you. Your mother’s hospitalization is my condition for coming back here. So, he is not going to create any problem for your mother here unless he wants me to leave the pack.” He paused, smiling mischievously, and winked in the end.

But his gesture of putting me at ease only increased my worry.

“Aaahhh…. Don’t think too much, Hazel. You are not alone now. You have me. Whatever will come our way, we will deal with that.” He, once again, assured me. Confidence is evident in his voice.

“Rest here tonight. It’s already late. I am going to bring dinner for you. I also need to fix my place before taking you there.” He spoke further while standing up.

“Thanks for everything, Cody. I understand that you did this for escaping those business ….. uhh.. I mean… those marriage proposals, and you don’t worry. I am not going to run away if the problems come our way. And just as we discussed earlier, we will divorce when one of us finds his or her mate, okay?” I once again clarified the terms on which we agreed to be in this contract marriage.”

“Right.” He immediately replied, pressing the word righteously.

I was glad that I had a friend like Cody who went to such lengths only to help me and my mother.

“I am going now. If you need something from your bag, take it out. I am also taking your luggage with me.” He asked me while going towards the bag.

“Okay.” I replied and stood up but didn’t move when Xyla reminded me.

“You forgot the mate marking, Hazel.”

I froze in my spot.

With our status as a poor, wolf-less omega, he will surely try to find any reason to make you leave unless you have Cody’s mark on your neck and Cody has your mark on his neck. What do you think about this?” She was serious in her voice while bringing out the more crucial part of this deal that both I and Cody forgot.

“What is it?” I looked at Cody when he asked me worriedly.

I blinked, confused and troubled by what she asked and what exactly we needed to discuss before going out of this room.

Alexander’s P.O.V.

I looked around the room in astonishment, disbelief, and shock.

My mate, the woman who was all over me all night, who made me take three cold showers before I succeeded in calming down, just disappeared.

The most astonishing fact was that her scent was completely gone.

How could I be able to track her down if I can’t smell her?

“What happened? Were you with a woman last night?” Hunter asked me in a shocked tone.

He was now standing behind me.

“But I didn’t smell s*x here.” He remarked while sniffing hard and glared at him.

He immediately blinked innocently, but I looked back at the room again.

The bed was still a mess, cruel proof of what happened there last night.

“Who is she? Shall I arrange someone to find her?” Hunter asked me excitedly.

But it felt like a bucket full of cold water poured over me.

Damn it.

Her scent was gone, and I didn’t even know her name.

“Velan.” I called my wolf anxiously.

“Can you sense her wolf through our bond with her? We need to find her.” I asked him anxiously.

He nodded and went silent for a few seconds before his expression changed.

“I…. I don’t know what happened, Alexander, but I can’t find her through our bond. She…. She was clearly the strongest she-wolf I have ever sensed, at we are fated mates. Even if… if we haven’t marked each other, I still should be able to find her through our bond. What happened to her? Where did she go?” He snarled anxiously, panic evident in his voice.

I sat down at the edge of the bed, trying to calm myself down.

“How many alpha she-wolves came here last night to attend the ceremony?” I asked Hunter while rubbing my head.

Velan was so anxious that he was pacing furiously.

“I don’t think so that any alpha she-wolf attended the ceremony last night. I heard that Luna Naisha got into a heated argument with two unmated alpha wolves during the ball in the royal pack this year. After that, almost all the alpha she-wolves started avoiding Keith and Naisha like they were some kind of contagious disease.” Hunter replied to me, and I groaned internally.

Damn it. It’s going to be more difficult than I had anticipated.

“Can you check the surveillance here to find the girl who was with me last night?” I asked him, looking at him hopefully.

Hunter looked at me apologetically.

“I am afraid that I can’t, Alpha. Alpha Keith has been searching for someone since last night, and I am sure that they are on strict vigilance right now.” Hunter replied to me in a serious tone.

I immediately knitted my brows in confusion.

“Last night was his mating night, and you are telling me that he wasted his whole night outside, searching for someone, leaving his mate alone?” I asked him in a shocked tone. What was Keith doing?

“And the one whom they have been searching for is a girl? A wolf-less omega girl who came here a year ago.” He added it with a raised brow, giving me a knowing look.

My heart sank as I connected dots that suddenly appeared at the back of my mind.

I was stopped at the bar by Keith’s beta last night. Velan urged me to go inside the bar, and then I found my mate there, disheveled, drugged, and scared.

I brought her to the hotel with me, and Keith continued searching for that girl all night.

What if....

Velan growled angrily when this horrified idea struck my mind.

"Who is that girl? Does she have any connection with Keith?" I asked Hunter in a serious tone.

Hunter raised his brows in surprise because I don't like meddling in other pack affairs.

I got the reason for his surprise, but I was now adamant about getting the answers.

What if Keith was really searching for my mate?

What if my mate's life is in danger?

"I didn't try to find out more, but if you want to," he paused as I stood up.

"Go and find everything that you can find on that girl and the relationship between her and Keith. I want every single detail," I instructed him sternly while walking towards the closet to get some suits.

I also needed to change and get ready to go back. I also had a meeting with another alpha to attend before going back to my pack.

"do.... do you want to go to meet your brother?" I stopped in my track when Hunter asked me suddenly in a cautious tone.
