“Everything done?” I asked Cody anxiously when he came back after, I guess, an hour. I was in the lobby with Mom. She was still sleeping. She was in so much pain when Cody gave her the medicine a few hours ago after taking the medicine from Naisha.
“Yeah. I have arranged a single room for her here. So, you can stay with her at any time if you want. They are bringing the stretcher. Then we will shift her safely.” He replied to me with a faint and relaxed smile.
This pack was a bit different from the Black Lotus Pack. People coming in and going out of the hospital were also looking at me with strange gazes, but I didn’t see any contempt or disdain.
Even a mated she-wolf who came with her mate came to me when Mom suddenly stirred and I dropped my bag on the ground.
The he-wolf helped me adjust my mother’s body on the chairs.
I thanked them for their help sincerely.
It took us quite a good time to settle my mother inside that single room. I slumped on the couch in the end.
The staff went out, leaving me and Cody inside. I felt exhausted and wanted to have a short nap before I went to Cody's place. The whole day was a perfect mess, but in the end, everything settled in a better way.
“I sent your mother’s reports to my professor at the UNI. He said that your mother can gain her health back.” Cody spoke in a serious tone while sitting on the single couch.
I immediately sat up straight, looking at him in shock.
“But she needs a stable and peaceful environment. I am glad that we made the right choice by bringing her.” He spoke further, and the hope that had died in my heart a long time ago seemed to get a lifeline.
“If nothing bad happens further, then she will be back to herself in a minimum of three months.” The smile that stretched on my lips also brought tears to my eyes.
He smiled too. He looked like an angel sent by the goddess to save me and my mother.
Yes, the goddess sent him to me.
“You can relax now, Hazel. Although.” He paused and adjusted his sitting position on the couch.
I sensed his uneasiness, which made me worried.
I could tell someone had sent him a mind link.
“My dad wants to invite us to dinner,” Cody said, giving me an apologetic look.
I swallowed hard. My sham marriage with Cody was about to experience its first test.
Cody was Alpha Henry Nickelson’s second son, but his mother was Henry’s fated mate, not his wife. He was embarrassed when he mentioned his family background, but I could see the sadness beneath his words; after his mother’s death, he was taken to Alpha House to be raised. I immediately hugged him to comfort him.
Henry’s mate, and their mother, Cassendra Nickelson, is still the Luna of the pack, as Alexander is still unmated.
When Alexander was mentioned, there was a clear look of respect and fear in Cody’s eyes.
Alpha Alexander hated his half-brother, which meant that I, as Cody’s nominal wife, would also face the anger of this pack’s highest leader.
If Alexander discovered that my marriage to Cody was a sham, he would undoubtedly kick my mother and me out of the pack immediately.
I shuddered.
Now I just need to hide the truth for three months.
Within this period, I absolutely cannot let Alexander discover about my true relationship with Cody.
Alexander’s P.O.V.
I looked around the room in astonishment, disbelief, and shock.
My mate, the woman who was all over me all night, who made me take three cold showers before I succeeded in calming down, just disappeared.
The most astonishing fact was that her scent was completely gone.
How could I be able to track her down if I can’t smell her?
“What happened? Were you with a woman last night?” Hunter asked me in a shocked tone.
He was now standing behind me.
“But I didn’t smell s*x here.” He remarked while sniffing hard and glared at him.
He immediately blinked innocently, but I looked back at the room again.
The bed was still a mess, cruel proof of what happened there last night.
“Who is she? Shall I arrange someone to find her?” Hunter asked me excitedly.
But it felt like a bucket full of cold water poured over me.
Damn it.
Her scent was gone, and I didn’t even know her name.
“Velan.” I called my wolf anxiously.
“Can you sense her wolf through our bond with her? We need to find her.” I asked him anxiously.
He nodded and went silent for a few seconds before his expression changed.
“I…. I don’t know what happened, Alexander, but I can’t find her through our bond. She…. She was clearly the strongest she-wolf I have ever sensed, at we are fated mates. Even if… if we haven’t marked each other, I still should be able to find her through our bond. What happened to her? Where did she go?” He snarled anxiously, panic evident in his voice.
I sat down at the edge of the bed, trying to calm myself down.
“How many alpha she-wolves came here last night to attend the ceremony?” I asked Hunter while rubbing my head.
Velan was so anxious that he was pacing furiously.
“I don’t think so that any alpha she-wolf attended the ceremony last night. I heard that Luna Naisha got into a heated argument with two unmated alpha wolves during the ball in the royal pack this year. After that, almost all the alpha she-wolves started avoiding Keith and Naisha like they were some kind of contagious disease.” Hunter replied to me, and I groaned internally.
Damn it. It’s going to be more difficult than I had anticipated.
“Can you check the surveillance here to find the girl who was with me last night?” I asked him, looking at him hopefully.
Hunter looked at me apologetically.
“I am afraid that I can’t, Alpha. Alpha Keith has been searching for someone since last night, and I am sure that they are on strict vigilance right now.” Hunter replied to me in a serious tone.
I immediately knitted my brows in confusion.
“Last night was his mating night, and you are telling me that he wasted his whole night outside, searching for someone, leaving his mate alone?” I asked him in a shocked tone. What was Keith doing?
“And the one whom they have been searching for is a girl? A wolf-less omega girl who came here a year ago.” He added it with a raised brow, giving me a knowing look.
I was pretty sure Alpha Keith had something going on with that girl.
For a moment, I suspected that the girl Alpha Keith was looking for was my mate, but my mate was a powerful she-wolf, not a wolfless Omega.
"I don't care about that girl, Hunter. We have to find the girl who left my room this morning." She was drugged when I found her yesterday. After writhing in fever all night, I was sure that she would be famished.
So, for the first time in my life, I brought breakfast for someone.
Okay…
Not for someone, but for my mate..
But she was gone.
“I’ll do my best, Alpha, but we have to leave before sunset. The Alphas who came for the ceremony are all leaving one by one. If we stay any longer, Alpha Keith will think we’re provoking him,”Hunter dutifully reminded me.
I groaned. Damn wolf pack politics.
"If we don’t find my mate, we’ll go back to our pack for dinner, and then I’ll immediately ask Keith to grant me a long-term search for my mate. He can’t stop an Alpha crazily wanting his fated mate.” Thinking of my mate’s enthusiasm last night, I grinned.
I couldn’t wait to see her again.
Alexander’s P.O.V.I couldn’t see how deep her wound was, but the poison was stopping her immune system from healing her.“Can’t you remove your pendant?” I asked her worriedly when she whimpered again.“We…..we are on the border,” she whispered in pain.I understood what she was implying here. I tightened my grip on her body, but she was now shivering hard.We are known as the most hot-blooded animals on earth, but because of the poison, her body temperature was dropping rapidly.I pulled her face up and hit it inside the crook of my neck. The coldness of her breath was alarming.“Do something, Alex. At this rate, she won’t be able to survive the night, and I am not sensing anyone here,” Velan yelled at me anxiously.I took a deep breath and slowly pulled her away from me. She whimpered in protest when her body started trembling hard because of the cold.“Hazel,” I called her softly, cupping her face gently while holding her body with the other hand. She didn’t open her eyes but lean
Alexander snapped his head in Hunter’s direction; his eyes widened in horror.“Hazel……. Hazel.” He roared at the top of his lungs while lunging towards the cliff, but Hunter held him tightly from behind.“Alex….. calm down,” Hunter yelled at him in panic, terrified by how Alexander was behaving right now.At the same time, Cody and Janet also arrived there.“Leave me. She is injured,” Alexander roared at the top of his lungs, thrashing his body into Hunter’s embrace.Cody was also in a frenzy. The amount of blood on the forest ground was enough to tell that Hazel was badly injured, and now he learned that she had fallen off the cliff. It was already dark down there, but as a werewolf, they could see how deep it was down there.Cody also ran towards the cliff, but Janet held his wrist and pulled him back.“What are you doing? The cliff steepened so low. It’s dangerous to go down there right now,” she yelled at him frantically, trying to make him understand that they can’t do a thing ir
No One’s P.O.V.Hazel followed that faint scent of Rony, but she got the scare of her life when the scent led her towards the forest. It was already dark now, and the forest here was dense, filled with steep slopes and…Hazel shuddered hard while remembering all the dangers of the forest. She stopped in front of the thick tree. She sniffed hard but noticed that Rony’s scent had disappeared. It only made her more scared for Rony. She looked around, widening her eyes to the maximum so that nothing could escape her eyes. Her heart skipped a beat, and she immediately rushed towards the foot of another tree, a bit far from the thick tree where she was standing, when she noticed a toy jeep there.Rony was holding that jeep when she embraced him earlier. She took the jeep and tightened her grip on the toy while looking around frantically.Yelling inside the forest at night could put her life in danger, too.So, instead of yelling, she decided to rely on her other senses. She tried to pick up
Hazel’s P.O.V. (Continued)I had never run so fast in my life as I ran to Jeff’s room. I was not scared of his episode but of Rony.Jeff forgot everything once he had his episode. He could attack Rony, too. They were alone in the room. What if Jeff attacked Rony during his episode? What if Rony couldn't get out of the room on time?Every question filled my heart with dread. The staff at the floor had already reached the room.I saw Rony curled up against the wall outside the room.“Rony!” I exclaimed in relief and ran in his direction. He sobbed aloud as soon as he saw me. I rushed to him and fell on my knees before pulling him into my tight embrace.“Dad….. he…. He forgot me, Hazel. He growled at me and yelled at me. He…. He said that I sh…. Should…..” I spoke while sobbing hard.“It’s okay. It’s okay. You are safe, an… and he loves you, pup. Your dad loves you so much. He… he is just sick, okay?” I comforted him hurriedly, interrupting him mid-sentence.I didn’t want him to take Jef
Hazel’s P.O.V.“Why are you so upset?” Yuna asked me while giving me the charts of the patients whom I needed to take care of for the rest of my shift.“Just some stuff with my mother.” I lied with a tight smile. She looked at me sympathetically, but I just smiled and took the files.“You don’t worry. She will be better soon.” She still comforted me gently.“I know,” I whispered and lowered my eyes to hide my tears. With Naisha’s vindictive nature, I am now really worried about my mother’s safety.Although Cody arranged a single room with two caretakers for my mom, and the hospital security was also good, I was still scared.I walked towards the wards with a heavy heart but took a few deep breaths to regain my composure. The people here are sick and need utmost care. The good thing was that today, I didn’t need to go to the dangerous wards.I went to the patients one by one, taking their vitals, taking notes of the time when they took medicines, and documenting anything else that they
Alexander’s P.O.V.“Who stepped on your tail today? I have never seen you so worked up.” Hunter remarked teasingly while giving me a water bottle.I grimaced but didn’t answer him. I took the bottle and drank a few mouthfuls of water and then poured some water on my face to calm me down, but I was far from the word “CALM” today.“Tell everyone to get ready for the spars,” I instructed him coldly, giving the water bottle back to him.“Whoa! How many wolves are going to face your wrath tonight?” he still joked but almost ran away before I could even glance in his direction.I started hitting the punching bag while my conversation with Hazel today continued, replaying in my mind.I couldn’t believe that Hazel was so blinded by love that she couldn’t see how Cody was taking advantage of her trust in him.He wasn’t there when that b*tch Naisha beat Hazel because of her jealousy, and when that b**tard Keith harassed her. They were in that pack for more than ten months, and Cody never knew w
Alexander’s P.O.V.“You need to talk to Alpha Rutherford, Alexander. This is the second time that we rejected the goods because of the inferior quality. We paid in full for the quality that we agreed on while signing the agreement. This is a breach of the contract.” My gamma, Oscar Mills, spoke to
Hazel became more anxious when she noticed anger pooling in Alexander’s eyes. She thought that he was now bothered by her being wolf-less.On the contrary, Alexander was confused by her presence here, and anger filled his heart when he saw how close Cody was to his mate.Velan was ready to rip Cody
Hazel’s P.O.V. (Continued)“But what if she needs me at any time during the daytime? Full-time jobs need all your concentration and attention to work during working hours, Cody. I want to stay available for her at any time. If I lose one job, I can find another, but Mary?”I stopped and chuckled dr
Alexander’s P.O.V. (Continued)“Brother?” I asked him in confusion, narrowing my eyes in the process.“Cody. He is a doctor here.” He told me, and my eyes widened in surprise.Cody Nickelson, my half-brother, and also the one whom I hated the most.I scoffed and moved towards the closet. “I have no
