Double Surprise

Waking up, Maria isn’t in bed, yet I can’t help but smile and think this is us back on track, this is us now finding our love and lust again. Walking downstairs, I hear the faint music, walking in the kitchen, she is cooking, smiling and happy.

“Morning, you hungry?” She looks at me, waiting for my response. Why would she deny herself this happiness for so long?

“Yes, I should eat. I am expecting the call today about when we go back.” Sitting down, I watch as she cooks, giving me food, we sit and eat, talking and laughing like we used to, and I feel like I have just fallen in love with her all over again, then reality hits.
